Chapter 111 Trap (Part 2)

For wizards of low level, higher-level magical artifacts are not necessarily better.

For example, a level one wizard, under normal circumstances, can easily defeat any other level one being from any other plane.

The more outstanding ones can even challenge "ordinary" level two creatures and remain undefeated.

However, if they encounter "special" level two beings, only a very few geniuses will have a chance of winning.

However, if one possesses a high-level magical artifact, even an ordinary level one wizard can kill such a level two creature alone if ambushed or confronted head-on with prior preparation.

However, in the event of a sudden encounter, the win rate of a level one wizard who simply possesses a high-level magical artifact will drop rapidly.

After all, as the level of the magical artifact increases, the mental energy required to activate it also increases.

While it's negligible for wizards of the same level, as it can be activated at will, it does cause a significant delay for lower-level wizards.

Artifacts above level six are no longer even activatable by level one wizards.

Once the enemy's strength reaches level three, even the most ordinary level three enemy is not something a level one wizard can normally handle—even if they possess high-level magical artifacts.

When facing a level 3 enemy, a level 1 wizard may not even have time to activate a high-level magical artifact before the enemy senses the danger.

After all, the speed of a level 3 creature already exceeds the reaction ability of a level 1 wizard, enough to escape the mental power and line of sight of a level 1 wizard, and even kill the level 1 wizard before the level 1 wizard can react.

Even if you activate a higher-level shield beforehand to save your life, you still won't be able to deal much damage to the enemy.
Moreover, the shield released by the magical artifact has a duration, and when the shield's duration ends, it is also the time when this level one wizard dies.

For this reason, even with ample funds, Jemin only purchased a few sets of level four magical artifacts—higher levels are meaningless and would actually slow down the activation speed.

Of course, if you're truly prepared to die, using high-level group magic to self-destruct while activating your shield isn't without the possibility of killing the enemy.

However, all of this is based on the premise that the first-level wizard has made preparations in advance and "ambushed" the third-level enemy.

But what if... it's an encounter battle?

An unsettling, mysterious energy fluctuation, like the beating of a heart, emanated from the depths of the altar and quickly spread throughout the entire mine, causing cracks to appear in the surrounding rock walls!
The three of them worked together, using alchemy to move the stone wall blocking their way, revealing the altar behind it.

"What...what is this?!" Victor exclaimed.

“No wonder…this guy doesn’t have a single subordinate around him.” Amy felt her voice trembling slightly.

What comes into view is a stone altar, the main body of which appears to be made of a mineral similar to crystal.

Clearly, that mineral was exactly what Jemin and his team needed for this mission.

The only difference is that the intelligence indicated this mineral should be a pale, transparent yellow.

But the entire altar in front of us was a vibrant red, like a giant ruby.

As for the reason why the entire altar changed color, it was of course because of the mountain of underground demon corpses piled up next to it.

Sensing the same "vibration" emanating from the altar as the Demon Elder had in life, Jemin's pupils suddenly contracted.

He immediately realized that this subterranean demon elder, who had long since lost his mind, was nothing but bait!
Its death is the switch that triggers the trap!
Almost at the same moment, Victor and Amy also felt the oppressive power emanating from the altar, and their expressions changed drastically.

Almost the instant he saw the altar, Victor instinctively reached for a high-level magical artifact from his wizard robes.

However, just as he stretched out his arm and his fingers touched the sorcerer's artifact—

scoff!

A blood-red blade flashed by as if teleported, and Victor's arm, which was holding the witch's weapon, flew high into the air without warning, leaving his body with spurting blood!

The severed arm was a bloody mess, with bone fragments exposed, and the hot, viscous blood instantly stained the ground red.

Victor let out a painful groan; the slash was so fast that he didn't even have time to scream.

Only then did they see clearly.

Unbeknownst to them, a towering figure with four wings had appeared above the altar deep within the mine.

He was clad in blood-red armor, his face cold and dignified, and his four enormous wings carried a bloody wind pressure.

Judging from the energy fluctuations emanating from him, there is no doubt that he is a level three being.

Blood Angel!

Jemin's eyes sharpened.

Based on the knowledge of the Erosian plane culture he had acquired during this period, he immediately recognized that the person in front of him was the Blood Angel under the command of the Blood War God, whose main faith was killing and war among the gods of the Erosian plane!

The strongest being below the gods, revered as a demigod by the natives of the Erosian plane, a genuine level three being!
Although angels are among the weakest of the "demigods" in the Erosian plane, they are still advanced beings that have crossed the barrier between gods and mortals.

Crushing those three level-one wizards would be an easy task.

The Blood Angel swept his cold gaze over the three of them, his indifferent eyes filled with disgust for "heretics" and "demons".

He raised his longsword and spoke habitually, his voice like an ancient prayer, carrying a cold, sacred power: "Filthy heretics, blasphemers of my God, your souls will..."

He was about to finish his prayer and then take action, but before he could finish speaking, Victor, whose arm had just been severed, suddenly staggered forward two steps and then fell to his knees with a thud!
"Spare me! Great angel! I... I'm willing to betray the wizard! I'm willing to join the ranks of the gods!" Victor cried, tears streaming down his face, his expression filled with extreme fear and despair.

He spoke rapidly, pleading incoherently like a machine gun: "I'm willing to provide all sorts of information about the wizards! Their weaknesses! Their strongholds! I'll tell you anything! I'm willing to kill these two heretics to show my sincerity! I only beg you to spare my life..."

He appeared extremely disheveled and terrified, as if he had been completely overwhelmed by the pain of the severed arm and the threat of death, and his face was unusually pale due to the intense pain and blood loss.

Seeing this, the Blood Angel revealed a mocking smile, about to say a few more sarcastic remarks about the traitor's pathetic state.

However, a strange sense of danger suddenly surged into his heart at that moment!
His face instantly turned furious.

Viktor, kneeling on the ground, had a strange smile on his face, which was covered in tears and snot.

As Victor looked up, a vacuum blade radiating a terrifying aura hurtled toward his head with a silent cutting force! And beneath Victor's clothes, a necklace he always wore around his neck was now silently losing all its luster, turning into a pile of ashes.

This was Victor's acting skill. He seized the brief opportunity presented by the Blood Angel's underestimation and taunts, and used all his mental energy to unleash his trump card!
Unfortunately, the gap in strength between the two sides was too great.

"Hmph!" Blood Angel snorted coldly.

With a casual flick of his longsword, a streak of crimson sword light flashed, instantly blocking the terrifying vacuum blade and shattering it into countless tiny streams of air.

Then, relying solely on her own aura, the Blood Angel unleashed a torrent of divine power, instantly blasting Victor away!
"puff!!"

Viktor coughed up blood and flew backward like a kite with a broken string, crashing heavily against the rock wall with a thud that made your teeth ache. He then slid to the ground, his fate unknown.

Just as the Blood Angel was about to raise his hand to kill it completely, he suddenly felt an indescribable stiffness coming from the joints of his limbs and the connection points of the four huge wings on his back!

He looked down and discovered that his joints and wings were covered with tiny ice crystals.

These ice crystals were not the culprit behind the freezing; on the contrary, they were formed precisely because of the uncontrollable cold within his joints.

These chills, though small, were like a persistent, bone-deep infection, hindering the smooth flow of divine power within his body.

He turned his head sharply, following the energy fluctuations, and looked in Amy's direction.

Amy's face had also turned pale, and her forehead was covered in sweat. Clearly, the sudden freezing power she had just unleashed was the result of her exerting all her strength!

Although Amy often uses fireball, it's only because fireball is "useful" in most situations.

As a genius who independently constructed a model of witchcraft, the model she created was far more complex and sophisticated than it appeared on the surface.

What she constructed was not a simple "fireball spell," but rather a combination of basic fire magic with her alchemy and extraction techniques, using her own knowledge to independently create a deeper level of "heat manipulation"!
Normally, she can condense fireballs by absorbing heat from her surroundings, but in critical moments, she can do the opposite, absorbing heat from others to cause them to freeze and become stiff.

However, the gap between a level three being and a level one wizard is simply too great.

Even with Amy's best efforts, she could only achieve this brief moment of freezing.

This slight chill quickly began to dissipate under the impact of the Blood Angel's immense divine power, almost disappearing completely.

But in that brief moment, as the enraged angel was distracted by expelling the chill from his body, he immediately sensed an unprecedented and intense danger.

He turned his head sharply, only to see that Jemin was holding a huge crystal ball in his hand, which was now shining brightly and was pointed directly at him!
Blood Angel instinctively raised his arm, which had regained its flexibility, and swung his longsword with a slash infused with divine power, hurtling towards Jemin!

However, just as the powerful slash was about to reach Jemin, he noticed a "cunning" smile on Jemin's face.

Then, with a grin, Jemin took the crystal ball that was radiating dazzling light back.

The terrifying slash, containing the power of level three, was blocked by an invisible barrier in front of Jemin just as it was about to get within a foot of him!

The barrier appeared transparent, yet it was indestructible. The Blood Angel's strikes created ripples on it, but could not penetrate it even an inch!
"Idiot, it was just to get your attention!" Jemin said sarcastically, looking at the shocked Blood Angel.

After saying that, he opened his other hand, in which he held two level-four defensive magical artifacts that had dimmed.

"You despicable wizards!" the Blood Angel roared in anger, turning to slash at Amy and Victor once more.

However, both of the blood-red sword lights that slashed down were blocked by the transparent barrier in front of them!

Seeing the look of relief mixed with mockery in Amy and Victor's eyes, the Blood Angel suddenly realized what was happening, and extreme anger and humiliation flashed in her eyes.

He got it!

Victor's "plea for mercy," Amy's "freezing," and Jemin's feigned "offensive magical artifact"—all of these were attempts to buy time.

He was just trying to buy himself a fraction of a second to distract himself so that Jemin could trigger the level four defensive artifact he had prepared and give them a level four shield that would be enough to withstand his attacks!

Seeing this, Jemin couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

The gap between a level 3 creature and a level 1 wizard is too great!
Even without using their full strength, the opponent can far exceed their reaction limits.

It can be said that in that situation, if the Blood Angel hadn't underestimated his opponent, he could have killed the three of them instantly without even having a chance to activate their magical artifacts.

Everything Amy and Victor did was to give Jemin time to activate his level four shield!

Everything Jemin did, including that sarcastic remark, was to attract the angel's attention, giving him time to activate other magical artifacts to cast the same shields on Amy and Victor!

Blood Angel's face showed extreme anger; he knew he had been tricked by these three "little bugs."

But he quickly calmed down.

After fighting those wizards for so long, he also knew a lot about these enemies.

Shields made with "special magical items" like this have a limited duration and cannot last long; they will disappear quickly.

"Once your little tricks expire, I'll make you pay the price!" the Blood Angel threatened coldly.

Jemin, however, was completely unconcerned; he didn't even heed the Blood Angel's harsh words.

Because he is currently focused on something else.

The angels finally noticed that behind Jemin, one after another, crystals the size of fingertips had appeared out of nowhere.

The number of these crystals was astonishing; they emitted a faint glow and flew out of Jemin's body like a swarm of bees.

Under the powerful guidance of Jemin's alchemy, these thousands of offensive rune artifacts unfolded behind him at a visible speed, rapidly arranging and combining to form a huge ring several meters in diameter.

As the ring unfolded, the Blood Angel also attempted to attack.

However, they discovered that when Jemin first released the shield, he had already made the shield's range extremely large, enough to protect all the rune artifacts behind him, as if he had foreseen this step in advance.
