Chapter 52 The Real Test
Chapter 52 The Real Test
Meanwhile, at the teleportation array plaza of Norren Academy.
A huge light screen in the sky is displaying what is happening inside the Gray Rock Realm.
The light screen was divided into many sub-screens, broadcasting the apprentices' actions in real time.
It seems to sense people's attention; the more attention a split-screen receives, the larger its proportion becomes.
Around the square, a group of dejected wizard apprentices stood there.
They looked extremely disheveled, with bloodstains on many of them, and some even bearing the marks of severed necks or missing limbs.
But no matter how disheveled the apprentices were, their bodies were now completely intact.
These are the unfortunate souls who were ambushed and "killed" by the indigenous people.
Besides its apparent ability to leave a plane using mental power, the teleportation ring also possesses another hidden power: when the user is about to die, it will forcibly teleport the user out of the plane, leaving behind a pile of broken artificial bodies as a distraction.
This is the true manifestation of that high-level wizard's power; his true escape ability is extremely high-level, completely unlike the crude spatial confinement that Oswald in the Grayrock Realm could possibly prevent.
The apparent ability to detach is merely another test for the wizard apprentice.
If a wizard apprentice chooses to escape danger, he can retain his grades. However, if he is forced to use his forced escape ability because he is in a desperate situation due to his arrogance, it means that he is truly eliminated.
Wizards do not discriminate against failure, after all, the learning process for every wizard is a process of continuous failure.
For wizards, failure is not terrible. As long as they can learn something new from failure, it is a gain. In fact, those who take the initiative to admit failure are considered to have excellent vision in a certain sense.
What they truly despise are those who lack self-awareness or are unable to clearly see the situation.
The former may experience some setbacks, but will eventually recover after learning from them, while the latter will not only cause huge losses, but may also harm the interests of others.
Every now and then, a beam of light would appear in the center of the square, and a new unlucky soul would appear out of nowhere.
When they first appeared, they were excited, even full of hostility and vigilance towards their surroundings. But soon, when they saw their surroundings clearly—the tall plaza buildings, the dejected faces of the other losers, and the light curtain above their heads—they would realize what was happening.
Then, these newly arrived "survivors," their faces flushed, took the initiative to walk into the group of losers next to them.
They knew they had lost their chance to participate in the trial.
hum...
With a tremor in the air, the figure of an unlucky fellow who had just been forcibly removed appeared in the square.
He quickly grasped the situation and walked dejectedly into the group of losers, panting heavily with lingering fear.
After calming himself down, he looked up at the light screen above him.
To the unfortunate man's surprise, there were actually two of the largest split screens on the light screen.
One of them, without a doubt, was the brutal "war" fought between the wizard apprentices and the indigenous allied forces in that blood-red valley.
The scene was exceptionally brutal, with magical light and a torrent of arrows intertwining, and the wizard apprentices retreating in defeat.
But the scene displayed in the other, largest split screen is completely different.
What was displayed was a scorched and desolate land. There was no fierce fighting, only a seemingly ordinary lone apprentice slowly walking along the ground.
"What's wrong with this guy? Why is his split screen so big? Is he some high-ranking wizard's offspring who set up this live stream just for him?" The unlucky guy couldn't help but ask a "senior" who looked like he had been there for a long time.
A strange expression appeared on the senior's previously dejected face.
It was a feeling filled with frustration, yet also tinged with a sense of anticipation, like watching the country bumpkins have a good time. "You'll see as you watch," the senior's voice was hoarse and meaningful.
The unlucky guy was a little confused by the other person's gaze, but he still turned his attention to the split screen of the lone apprentice.
Not long after, on the desolate wasteland where the lone apprentice was walking, a large number of dark figures suddenly appeared in the scene.
It was a well-equipped indigenous army of over a hundred men, who were heading towards the valley and appeared to be reinforcements.
The soldiers seemed somewhat surprised when they saw the lone apprentice, but they quickly surrounded him.
The unlucky fellow felt a pang of anxiety, sweating for the lone apprentice.
Even geniuses like Augusta or Horn would need to go all out to deal with an ambush of this scale.
The scene he envisioned was the apprentice fleeing in panic or fighting desperately, ultimately being forcibly teleported out.
However, what he saw next completely stunned him.
On the screen, the seemingly ordinary young apprentice didn't even stop walking.
He simply waved his hand casually, and then... death came.
The raging flames instantly engulfed the entire army; there were no sword fights, no battles of wits, only a pure and overwhelming outpouring of power!
Hundreds of elite indigenous people with extraordinary powers were reduced to ashes in the flames, not even lasting a moment.
The entire land was burned to scorched earth, flames raging, as if divine punishment had descended.
That wasn't a battle, that was... a massacre!
A one-sided, effortless massacre!
The unlucky guy stared at the screen in disbelief, his mouth slightly open, but he couldn't utter a sound.
He didn't even see how the apprentice did it; it was as if the space around the figure collapsed and then erupted with hellish flames.
Only then did he come to his senses and look at the senior next to him with a half-smile.
He finally understood why the other person had that look of watching the spectacle, that helpless expression born of hardship, and that joy of finding a kindred spirit.
"The differences between people are truly vast, aren't they?"
The senior patted him on the shoulder, his tone earnest and full of a calm acceptance of everything, like a dried-up salted fish.
The unlucky fellow wanted to say something. He wanted to ask who that apprentice was, why he was so powerful, and why the natives were like ants in front of him...
But he didn't know what to say; the shock was pressing on his chest, making him almost suffocate.
Just then, a faint light appeared on the square, and yet another unfortunate soul, looking disheveled, was kicked out of the gray rock realm.
The other person's eyes were dazed, filled with the fear and confusion of having just experienced death, just like mine had been.
Seeing the other person's reaction after they came out was exactly the same as his own, and then looking at the light screen with a slightly puzzled expression.
The apprentice smiled slightly, moved silently to the other person's side, and patted the other person's shoulder gently, just as the other person had been treated.
"You'll see as you watch," he said softly, sensing the other person's wary and questioning gaze.
