Chapter 36 Serial Cases

"Help me, help me—"

Su Miaoyi looked at the gently swaying river surface and felt that something in the river was moving with the water.

And it seemed like there was a faint voice calling for her help.

“There’s something there.” One of the men craned his neck to look at the river.

"I couldn't see clearly either." Su Miaoyi touched her forehead, feeling a large bump on it. "Did you hear anything?"

"what sound?"

“It’s like a woman’s voice saying ‘Help me,’” Su Miaoyi said.

The two men looked around, then exchanged a glance: "Young lady, it's so late at night, don't scare this old man, he has a heart condition."

"You have a heart condition, and you still come night fishing?" Su Miaoyi looked at the two of them, whom she didn't recognize. "Won't you get nagged when you get home?"

“Having a heart problem is having a heart problem, being nagged is being nagged, and night fishing is night fishing; they cannot be confused.”

Su Miaoyi listened and nodded: "That makes sense."

"Miss, are you from around here? You don't look like it. Why don't you call home so someone can pick you up?"

“It’s nearby,” Su Miaoyi said. “Uncle, look, it’s so late, and the three of us have met here. Isn’t that fate?”

"That's quite a coincidence."

"So, aren't you curious about what that is?" Su Miaoyi pointed to the river.

"It's not a matter of curiosity, I can't see it," the man said, craning his neck to look into the river.

“Then let’s get closer to each other,” Su Miaoyi suggested.

“Then it’s settled, you can’t jump in. Neither of us can swim,” the man said. “You’re so young and beautiful, don’t do anything rash. Think about your parents, how hard it was for them to give birth to you and raise you. Your body and hair are a gift from your parents, you can’t kill yourself.”

Su Miaoyi looked at him but didn't say anything.

I didn't want to die, but after hearing this, I suddenly wanted to die.

The three of them slowly approached the riverbank.

Only when they got closer did the two men see what was floating in the water.

There was a section of rope and a corner that looked like a sack.

"There really is something there."

"I'll go get a pole and bring it up."

"Girl, step back, step back, don't come any closer. I don't trust you right now."

Su Miaoyi paused in her steps, saying, "I'll help."

"We don't need your help. We're two grown men, we don't need your help."

Hooking the corner of the sack, the two men used a lot of force to pull it up.

A large burlap sack was leaking water from the riverbank.

Su Miaoyi shone their flashlights on the sack. She had a bad feeling because she could smell a faint odor of decaying corpses.

However, the flavor is very mild.

Two men squatted on the side, panting heavily.

"Wow, if this were a big fish, we'd make a fortune today."

"All you ever think about is wishful thinking. When has a big fish ever been caught in this place?"

As the two chatted, Su Miaoyi squatted down beside the sack, tilted her head, put the flashlight on her shoulder, and shone it on the sack opening to untie the rope.

The hemp rope was thick and tied very tightly; after being soaked in water, it was very difficult to untie.

"Let me do it." The man moved forward, tried to untie it a couple of times but couldn't, so he simply used the small knife hanging on his keys to cut the sack open.

Su Miaoyi pressed down on the opening of the sack, looked at the two of them and said, "It smells bad to me, I don't think it's anything good. You have a heart condition, so you should be prepared, or maybe you shouldn't look at it."

"What do you mean?" the man said. "I'm a grown man, I'm not afraid of anything."

As he spoke, he directly lifted the sack.

There was another layer of plastic bag inside.

It was a very large and thick plastic bag, sealed very tightly.

"What is this?" The man cut the sack open even wider.

Most of the contents inside were exposed.

Suddenly, I saw that both men had sat down on the ground.

Su Miaoyi's pupils contracted slightly, and she first asked the two of them with concern, "Are you alright? Is your heart okay?" "No, we're fine."

"Call the police."

By the time the police arrived, it was already getting light on the horizon.

The three people were sitting under a huge, thick willow tree.

The two uncles said that the willow tree is a hundred years old and has already developed a spirit.

Sitting below, the wronged spirits dared not approach.

Police officers from the local police station cordoned off the scene.

The police asked the three of them about their situation.

The two uncles recounted how the body was discovered.

It is said that Su Miaoyi jumped into the river here, and her body was discovered during the rescue.

Su Miaoyi looked at the unfamiliar faces of the police officers in front of her. They were not from the same police station as the man with the mole on his eyebrow that time.

After thinking about it, Su Miaoyi felt that it was easier to explain her suicide by jumping into the river than to be found dead in the middle of the night while she was sleeping soundly.

So in the end, the police station contacted Cheng Yong and Ge Yu.

The two men took Su Miaoyi back.

“Uncle and Aunt, I didn’t actually want to commit suicide. I think I was sleepwalking yesterday, and I went out. When I woke up, I was by the river. I really didn’t want to commit suicide, so don’t worry. I’m fine.”

As soon as she spoke, Ge Yu snapped back to reality.

When they received the call from the police station, the couple were completely stunned.

They argued the whole way here.

They blamed each other for hearing noises outside last night, but neither of them moved.

"It's alright, it's alright." Ge Yu held her hand tightly, truly terrified. "Dreaming...sleepwalking? Have you ever done that before?"

"Yes, I've had that before, and I've seen a doctor. It's nothing serious, it just takes time to heal," Su Miaoyi said.

"That was too dangerous," Cheng Yong said. "Luckily, we ran into two kind people. What if we had encountered bad guys?"

Su Miaoyi touched her swollen forehead.

He looked again at his scraped palms and knees.

This is indeed a troublesome matter.

Sharing a victim's perspective and senses creates psychological stress.

But then the memory suddenly cuts out, leading to the location where the body was dumped.

It is indeed more terrifying.

She died if she wasn't careful.

Is this the price to pay for having special skills?
Cheng Yong and Ge Yu were very worried about her, and neither of them went to set up their stall for a whole day.

He stayed at home with Su Miaoyi.

Su Miaoyi had originally planned to leave today, but seeing that the two were worried, she decided to stay another night.

In the afternoon, she received a call from Zhuang Yanzheng.

As soon as the call connected, Zhuang Yanzheng said, "I heard you were going to jump into the river to commit suicide?"

"Hmm?" Su Miaoyi was lying on the bed with an ice pack on her forehead. Hearing his words, she sat up. "I just had a sudden urge to go to the river to practice diving tonight."

Zhuang Yanzheng: "Are you alright?"

"It's nothing, I just have another blackout, I don't know how I got there," Su Miaoyi said. "Was the case transferred directly to the Municipal Public Security Bureau?"

“Yes,” Zhuang Yanzheng said, “The method of murder involves several previous cases.”

"A serial murder case?" Su Miaoyi asked in surprise.

When she was by the river, she used a branch to pry open the sack and look at the body.

It was trapped in a large plastic bag and had already rotted.

She didn't flip through it, she just glanced at it.

Because the two uncles wouldn't let her see it, and insisted that she go to the big willow tree to ward off evil spirits.

If I'm not mistaken.

The corpse's eyes had been gouged out, and its face was more decomposed, as if it had been slashed.

Both hands were also cut off.
