Chapter 7: The Suspect Was Seen

meeting room.

Regarding the body found under the overpass, the branch's forensic doctor explained the autopsy results.

"According to anthropological examination, the deceased was a woman, around 26 years old, 170 cm tall, and weighed around 60 kg. She had multiple comminuted fractures: left thigh, right calf, right arm, skull, and left eye socket. The fractures of both legs, right arm, and skull were determined to have been caused by a blunt object such as a square-headed hammer. The fracture of the left eye socket appeared to have been caused by a tool such as a shovel."

"We speculate that it was packed into some large bags or boxes before being buried. The overpass was not the primary crime scene."

"The body was highly decomposed, and the estimated time of death was seven to ten days. Moreover, it should have still been breathing faintly when it was buried."

"We extracted DNA from the ribs, but no match was found in the gene bank. No other DNA was extracted."

After the forensic doctor finished speaking, Qi Feng said, "Nothing to identify the deceased was found on the body, and we haven't received any missing persons reports recently. The deceased's identity has not yet been confirmed. Professor Lu is working on reconstructing the deceased's appearance based on the skull."

Teacher Lu was referring to Lu Zhishen.

Qi Feng continued, "Last night, based on the sketch provided by the witness, we matched the suspect in the database. Xia Zhenghong, male, 52 years old, is a graduate supervisor at Jinghai Normal University. His wife said he went to his hometown in Jiangcheng to visit relatives three days ago, but we contacted the police station in Jiangcheng and went to his hometown to inquire, and he did not return. Xia Zhenghong's mobile phone is switched off, and we are still investigating his whereabouts."

"What about Beijing Normal University?" Zhuang Yanzheng asked.

Qi Feng said, "It's the holiday season, some students have gone home, and some have stayed at school. We haven't obtained any useful information yet. The surveillance footage near the overpass hasn't revealed anything either."

"How is the relationship between Xia Zhenghong and his wife?" Zhuang Yanzheng asked.

“Xia Zhenghong is considered to have married into the family, and from his wife’s words, it seems like they have a good relationship,” Qi Feng said. “They have a daughter studying abroad. Because of Xia Zhenghong’s work, his wife spends a lot of time abroad with him. They’ve been separated for the past few years.”

Zhuang Yanzheng had stayed up all night, and his expression looked even fiercer. He looked at the existing clues on the screen, and his gaze paused on Xia Zhenghong's wife's name: "The pocket watch found at the scene, I went to the store this morning to ask, the person who ordered this pocket watch is Xia Zhenghong's wife."

Xia Zhenghong's suspicion has risen once again.

“Send more people to search. If this goes on for too long, the person might leave Jinghai. Check the highway toll stations as well,” Zhuang Yanzheng said. “Qi Feng, you and I will go to Xia Zhenghong’s house again and talk to his wife.”

"Yes."

Su Miaoyi came out of the pet store and picked up the cat as well.

Although the cat still hissed at her, she still took it out because of the unpleasant experience with the pet store.

The pet store refunded her all the money she had paid for the month.

She was overjoyed to suddenly have an extra sum of money.

She had to grit her teeth and save every penny to pay that money back then.

I think that man in the suit is an exceptionally good person.

She transferred the money to her aunt.

Then we went to eat nearby.

I had just finished eating when my aunt called.

Su Miaoyi answered the phone: "Auntie."

Ge Yu said on the other end of the phone, "Miaomiao, why are you sending money home again? You need money for food and lodging when you live outside. Don't always send money home; keep it for yourself."

Su Miaoyi has lived in Ge Yu's house since she was thirteen years old.

The Ji family only provided her with a year's living expenses, but even so, her uncle and aunt continued to support her until she reached adulthood and sent her to university.

Su Miaoyi smiled and said, "I have money to spend and I have some left over. My younger brother is in school and needs money right now, so I want to do my part for the family."

“Your family has the money to send him to school, so you don’t need to worry,” Ge Yu said. “I’ve returned the money to you.”

“Auntie, just take it. My brother needs money to learn acting,” Su Miaoyi said. “I don’t have any major expenses, so the money is just sitting there.”

“Why would he study acting? If he doesn’t get into university, he’ll come back and sell vegetables with me and your uncle. He even studied acting,” Ge Yu said. “He’s just asking for trouble.”

Su Miaoyi laughed: "By the way, Auntie, I remember that grandma next door really likes cats. Why don't you ask her if she wants any more cats?"

"Okay, I'll ask for you. What happened? Did you find another stray cat?" Ge Yu asked.

"No. It's just that Qiuqiu has been giving me the cold shoulder lately, so I'm thinking of finding it a new home." Su Miaoyi suddenly remembered that the old lady next door really liked cats.

This cat is gentle with everyone, and gets along well with the staff at the pet store. It's only hostile towards her.

“Take it home, I’ll take care of it,” Ge Yu said. “You’ve raised it for so many years, don’t you feel bad about giving it away?”

"Then I'll go back now."

“Okay.” Ge Yu was delighted. “We’ll eat at home tonight.”

"it is good."

After hanging up the phone, Su Miaoyi looked at the money that had been refunded on her phone, then checked the bus routes and found a bus stop to wait for the bus.

My uncle and aunt live in the old town.

Taking a taxi from here is incredibly expensive.

Although she earns some royalties, if her younger brother were to actually study acting, there would be many things that would require her to take care of, so she should save money where possible.

We arrived in the old town.

Su Miaoyi got off the bus.

It was like being transported to two different worlds.

A city with a completely different appearance.

Compared to the bustling city on the other side of the bus, this place looks like a slum.

Old buildings, overhead power lines, and uneven ground.

Su Miaoyi carried the bag containing the cat and walked towards home.

From the bus stop to my aunt's house, it's a kilometer walk. I've walked that route countless times over the years while I was studying away from home.

It must have rained yesterday, because the already uneven road is even muddier now.

Su Miaoyi walked close to the side of the road.

At a corner of an alley, I almost bumped into someone turning from the other side.

Su Miaoyi noticed his clothes first.

In this weather, on such a hot day, he was still wearing a jacket and a mask.

Are people not afraid of the heat these days?

Su Miaoyi mentally complained, took a step back, and intended to let the other party leave.

As she backed away, the other person glanced at her.

Su Miaoyi first noticed the mole at the end of his right eyebrow, and after meeting his gaze, she suddenly saw a strange scene.

In one room, she first saw the man raise a hammer and smash it on the head of the woman whose back was to him.

The woman fell to the ground.

Then, the man squatted down, raised the hammer again, and landed it on the woman's thighs, calves, and abdomen.

The woman weakly raised her hand in an attempt to resist.

The hammer struck her arm again.

While hitting him, the man kept saying, "I'll teach you to disobey me, I'll teach you to disobey me!"

"Threatening me! Threatening me! What are you! How dare you threaten me! I'll kill you! I'll kill you! No one can destroy me, no one!"

"Die, die!"

The visuals are very jarring.

The scene ended with the man putting the woman into a suitcase.
