Battlefield Priest's Diary
Chapter 152 Apprentice Saintess
Chapter 152 Apprentice Saintess
Looking at the gloomy cemetery in front of her, and at the crows perched on the branches staring at her, the young woman felt her whole body tense up.
She took a deep breath and tiptoed into the cemetery. To bolster her courage, she reached into the pocket of her trench coat, where she kept a small pistol for self-defense.
Carefully avoiding the tombstones under her feet, Gina walked towards the monastery ahead.
"Is anyone home?" the girl called out bravely, but the door was empty and no one answered.
Pushing open the door and stepping inside, one immediately sees a dilapidated corridor and scattered furniture.
Gina held her breath and carefully explored the interior of the house. As she went deeper, the surrounding light became dimmer and dimmer.
Slightly sniffing, the young woman could smell a bloody odor in the air, which grew stronger as she went deeper.
Feeling her heart pounding, Gina mustered her courage and opened the door in front of her.
The next second, she almost screamed.
Throughout the room, hundreds of hooks hung, each with a piece of meat from some unknown animal attached. Some of the meat was already half-dried, while others still showed traces of bright red blood, and a strong smell of blood emanated from them.
Several streaks of blood, not yet completely dried, formed an unreadable pattern on the ground, resembling a scene from a mysterious ritual described in a novel she had read in her youth.
Quack!
A piercing scream came from behind her, and a shadow appeared at her feet.
The woman turned around abruptly, and a person stood silently behind her. In the interplay of light and shadow, she could only see a centipede-like scar on the man's face, while a large raven perched on his shoulder glared at her with fierce eyes.
My taut nerves suddenly snapped!
what! ! ! !
The woman yelled and pulled the pistol out of her pocket, pointing it at the person in front of her.
Almost at the same time, she felt a clamp-like hand grip her wrist.
The next moment, the scenery in front of Gina began to spin rapidly, and then she was pressed to the ground like a quail.
Her vision shifted to a cloudless sky, and the crow lowered its head, getting close to her face.
For no reason at all, she remembered a sentence she had read in a book—crows like to peck at the eyeballs of the dead.
My eyes don't taste good!!!
A scream echoed through the monastery, startling the other birds on the branches, which chirped and flew into the sky.
Ten minutes later, the courtyard became quiet.
Gina sat awkwardly to one side, holding a water glass, while the priest in the black robe used a small cloth bag to put the dried meat strips one by one into it.
"I'm sorry, I really didn't know they were drying meat! I thought..." Gina stopped there. She couldn't very well say that she was frightened by the scar on the other person's face and that's why she lost her composure; that would be too rude.
However, the fact that the other party could instantly control him while he was holding the weapon also demonstrated the man's skill.
It seems that the other person is probably the one that my aunt said my uncle trusts the most.
"Did de Gaulle send you?" The man put away the jerky, without using honorifics.
"Yes, this is for my uncle." The girl handed the note to the other person.
"your name?"
“Actually, my name is also De Gaulle.” The girl stood up, adjusted her coat, and confidently puffed out her chest. “I am his niece.”
“Geneviève de Gaulle?” The other person raised an eyebrow, looking somewhat surprised. (Gina is a nickname, used only among relatives; strangers wouldn't use it.)
"You know me?!" The girl's eyes widened. She couldn't understand why the "most capable person" her uncle had mentioned would know an ordinary girl like her.
"Yes, your uncle mentioned you to me before," Qin Hao casually brushed it off, but his mind was racing. He had just lied; de Gaulle hadn't told him about his niece, but he already knew about her in great detail.
why?
Because this "Miss de Gaulle" was no ordinary person; in some aspects, her future achievements were even no less than those of her uncle.
It's worth noting that the Pantheon in France has over a hundred male national heroes inscribed, but only six women, one of whom is this lady.
He joined the French Resistance at the age of 21, single-handedly built an independent intelligence network, and led the underground struggle for nearly four years. His most significant achievement was planning the Lyon children's evacuation in 1943, which saved 83 children from the German guns.
Betrayed by a traitor, she was arrested by the Gestapo and imprisoned in Ravensbrück concentration camp. She was rescued by the Red Cross in 1945, weighing only 32 kilograms at the time. Her personal belongings consisted of a dozen or so bars of soap—which she used her fingernails to record the atrocities committed in the camp, risking her life to preserve them.
She founded the World Anti-Hunger Action Organization after the war, was a leading figure in philanthropy throughout Europe, and was the first woman to receive the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour.
Oh, by the way, her name will be given the title "Saint" by the French Catholic Church in the future.
In a sense, she is a genuine French saint.
However, this woman, who has received so many honors in the future, is more like an intern who has just messed up her job. She is a little clumsy, but not disliked.
"So, madam, what is the purpose of your visit? I remember Charles saying that he would only come to me in the most urgent situations." The priest in the black robe turned to look at the young woman in front of him.
Thump! The museum doors were practically kicked open.
The two ran up to the attic one after the other, and Gina was almost out of breath.
She was riding a bicycle, but she almost couldn't keep up with the speed at which the man in front of her was running.
Anna was lying in bed in a semi-conscious state, her forehead feverish.
"Go and fetch a basin of clean water," the black-robed priest commanded in an unquestionable tone, and the young woman in charge of the caretaker obeyed instinctively.
Just before leaving, Gina caught a glimpse out of the corner of her eye that the other person had taken off the cross around their neck.
By evening, Anna's fever had miraculously subsided.
Under the dim light, the man kept wiping Anna's neck, back, and palms with a damp towel. As he lowered his head, the long scar on his face also moved.
The rugged scars and gentle movements create a unique sense of contrast.
The caretaker rested her chin on her hand under the oil lamp, watching with sparkling eyes full of curiosity.
"When I leave in a bit, don't forget to wipe her lower abdomen. Tonight is crucial, so we'll take turns watching her," the man in black instructed.
The young woman nodded, hesitated for a moment, and then asked, "You seem to be very good at taking care of children."
"Yes, I had that experience before. At most, I had to take care of more than a dozen people."
"You also know medicine?"
"I've taken care of many wounded soldiers before, so I know a little bit about it."
The man answered a few questions, tidied up the items on the table, and turned to the female administrator, saying, "I'll tell you a few things. Please look for them quickly, and let me know as soon as you can't find them. We're short on time."
"Sir, I don't understand, what are you trying to do..."
"We need to get Anna out of here," the man said in a deep voice, gazing at the twinkling lights outside the window.
"The Germans are about to enter the city."
