Battlefield Priest's Diary
Chapter 159 Curse?
Chapter 159 Curse?
"marshal!"
"Marshal! Wake up!"
"Marshal! Are you alright?!"
In a daze, someone was shaking him. Goring tried to respond, but found that his body was like a nightmare, and his hands and feet were completely out of his control.
The sound of clothes rubbing together made it seem as if someone had unbuttoned his collar.
The tension in his neck disappeared, and Goring felt more air flowing into his lungs, making him feel a little more comfortable.
"Get out of the way! Everyone get out of the way! The Marshal needs more fresh air!" someone shouted from the side.
Footsteps sounded around me, the light in front of me brightened a bit, someone came closer, and a cold, icy touch moved across my chest.
? ? ! ! !
What is going on?! His brain, still sharpened by morphine, was too alert for Goring to process what was happening.
He struggled to open his eyes, and the light and shadow before him gradually coalesced into the image of a man in military uniform, who was holding an unidentified device and gesturing at the location of his heart.
The last scene from the nightmare suddenly reappeared in my mind!
Rom!
It was Rom who came to see him!
Fear finally restored control of Göring's hands and feet!
Göring shoved the person in front of him away, shouting desperately, "That's the Führer's order! That's the Führer's order! I was just following the Führer's orders! Don't come any closer!"
when! ! !
The sound of metal hitting the ground was followed by complete silence. Goring sat there, panting heavily, still shaken.
Consciousness began to return, and Göring regained control of his body.
Looking around, Göring found his entourage surrounding him. The man he had pushed away was his personal physician, Ehrlich, and the sound he had made was from the stethoscope that had fallen to the ground.
"Sir, are you alright? What happened? Would you like some water?" The adjutant cautiously approached.
"The back carriages! Hurry, there's something inside..." Göring stopped mid-sentence.
Upon regaining consciousness, Goring's first thought was to maintain his image.
What just happened was too unbelievable; he couldn't let the people around him think he was crazy.
"What are you all doing gathered here? I'm just too tired, get back to work!" Goring ordered the people around him.
The attendants looked at each other, and then most of them dispersed.
“Erich and Fritz, stay behind,” Göring called from behind.
Dr. Ehrlich and his adjutant exchanged a glance and stopped, waiting for their superior's instructions.
After a moment of silence, Göring slowly spoke, "Erich, what do you think if I say I saw something unexpected?"
The personal physician keenly observed the small needle marks on the marshal's arm and said calmly, "Your Excellency, your body is an irreplaceable asset to the Empire. Let me give you a simple examination."
Listening to his private doctor's cautious explanation and recalling his own condition just now, Goring nodded reluctantly.
With the stethoscope placed on his chest, Göring took a deep breath as instructed. After measuring his blood pressure, Dr. Erich put the instruments away.
"Sir, if I may be so bold, could you please describe exactly what you saw?"
"Hmm~" Goring hesitated for a moment before finally speaking.
“I saw a little girl with a pair of black wings…and my paintings also became very strange…and then…” Goring described the previous scene with reservation.
However, he kept his sighting of what appeared to be Rom's ghost a secret.
Dr. Ehrlich and his adjutant exchanged a glance, both thinking the same thing—the Marshal was probably too high and was having serious hallucinations.
However, he couldn't be so blunt. Dr. Erich, seeing the Imperial Marshal's obvious impatience, quickly prepared his words in his mind.
"Sir, there is nothing seriously wrong with your health. Those scenes you saw were probably just due to stress, but..."
"But what?! Don't beat around the bush."
"Your Excellency, I know you've been pushing yourself to the limit for the Empire, but if you really need medication to boost your energy, I suggest you take it orally. After all, it's very difficult to control the dosage properly with injections." This was the most tactful advice he could offer; Dr. Erich couldn't very well say, "Stop injecting that stuff! You might accidentally kill yourself."
Despite the doctors' best efforts to avoid upsetting Göring, the Air Marshal still frowned.
"Mr. Ehrlich, you don't believe me? You think I'm crazy?!"
"No, no, no, that's absolutely not what I meant."
Sweat beaded on Dr. Ehrlich's forehead, and his speech involuntarily quickened.
"In fact, daily stress can also cause hallucinations to some extent. As long as the person re-examines the environment and realizes the difference between hallucinations and reality, they will quickly get rid of the psychological discomfort..."
boom! ! !
Goering slammed his fat hand on the table.
"I saw it with my own eyes! How dare you doubt an Imperial Marshal, your superior!"
Enraged, Goring picked up the water glass beside him and gulped it down. He pressed his fingers to his forehead and rubbed them repeatedly, as if trying to dig out all the memories from last night.
Then the Imperial Marshal seemed to have made up his mind. He stood up, walked to the back of the carriage again, and gestured for his two subordinates to follow.
But when his hand grasped the door handle of that carriage, he hesitated again. The bizarre scene from before was still stimulating Goring's nerves, and the little girl's eyes seemed to still be staring at him.
"Fritz, go open the door!" Göring commanded sternly.
The adjutant had no choice but to pull the handle.
Göring reached for the pistol at his waist.
Click~
The door hinges clicked, and the carriage door opened.
It was spotless inside.
The smell of pine planks still filled the carriage. Light streamed in through the windows, and the floor was spotless, devoid of anything, let alone the blood-red writing.
The little girl and the people in military uniforms have disappeared.
It was as if nothing had happened.
Surprise, doubt, and bewilderment filled Goring's chubby face as he looked at the scene, which was completely different from what he remembered.
The two subordinates looked helplessly at the distraught Imperial Marshal, wanting to speak but not daring to express themselves clearly.
Goring was completely confused, and for a moment he really wondered if he had lost his mind due to an overdose.
Suddenly, a scene flashed through his mind.
correct!
The painting! And that painting too!
Göring pushed his adjutant away.
Using both hands and feet, he opened the box and pulled out his collection of famous paintings.
"Your Excellency, be careful not to get hurt," Fritz advised from the side, but Göring only quickened his pace again, almost violently pulling the priceless work of art out of it.
This is it!
"The Woman in Blue," a masterpiece by Matisse.
Göring slowly pulled the painting out, his eyes glancing at its bottom.
With its soft lines, visually striking techniques, and vibrant color combinations, "The Woman in Blue" was presented to him in its entirety, without a single flaw or damage.
Looking at everything before him, Manstein's words from before echoed in his ears.
“Fritz!” Göring spoke slowly.
"Your Excellency, I am here!" The adjutant stood at attention.
"Put away the gift I gave to His Excellency Manstein."
"Remember, be careful."
