Chapter 77 Gunshot
boom! ! !
Gunshots pierced the night sky of St. Petersburg, making the maids who had been frolicking in their rooms tense.

"Did you... hear anything?" someone asked, mustering their courage.

“Okay, it sounds like… it sounds like gunshots…” another girl swallowed.

boom! ! !
Another gunshot rang out, this time clearer and seemingly closer.

A girl went to the window to see what was going on, and just as her hand touched the edge of the curtain, a loud shout rang out.

"Get away from the window!"

The usually amiable and polite priest in his black robe strode into the room, looked at the girl inside, and said sternly...
"All women, stay in the living room! Don't go anywhere! Draw all the curtains!"

"The man goes to find weapons; the others follow me and the housekeeper!"

There weren't many men in the house; besides Qin Hao, there were only two waiters and another group of cooks.

The kitchen helper picked up a meat cleaver, while the other two grabbed the large shears and pitchforks left behind by the gardener.

The girls instinctively did as instructed, huddled together, trembling.

"Father, what happened? Have the Germans attacked?" the youngest girl asked nervously.

"No, there are thugs looting in the city." The priest in black robes lifted a corner of the curtain and looked outside, where firelight could be seen faintly in the darkness.

"Robbery!" "Thugs?!" "Oh my god!"

The young girl panicked immediately.

"Shut up!" another voice rang out as the housekeeper walked into the living room in her flat shoes.

"If you can't help, then stay here quietly and don't quack like a duck." The tall Lyudmila glared at the girl who had just screamed, and the girl instantly fell silent like a quail that had encountered its natural enemy.

This surprised the black-robed priest standing nearby; it seemed that women were the ones best suited to deal with women.

After arranging the maids in the house, the remaining people kept watch over the front and back doors of the villa. As they were going down the stairs, the housekeeper called out to the man in the black robe in front of them.

"You can take this." Lyudmila handed the pistol to the man in front of her.

"Isn't this your weapon for self-defense?" the priest in black robes turned around and asked calmly.

“His Majesty needs you, and your safety is above all else. I have other options,” the housekeeper said businesslike.

The next second, the pistol was pushed back.

“Don’t worry about that, I have something prepared.” The priest in the black robe held up the dark object in his hand.

The housekeeper was surprised to find that the other party was holding a large, square-shaped handgun—a Mauser C96.

This weapon, known as the "box cannon" in China, was not very popular in Europe at the time, so much so that many people had never seen it.

"Just spoils of war, from the battlefield during a firefight with the Germans," the black-robed priest explained, brandishing his pistol.

"Father, are you saying you secretly hid weapons on the battlefield?!" The housekeeper's eyes widened. (Doctrine rules stipulate that clergy are strictly forbidden from handling guns.)

"So, please keep this a secret for me." The man stared into her eyes, made a fawning gesture with one hand, casually tucked the gun into his robe, and disappeared back into the darkness.

Lyudmila stood there stunned for a while before she came to her senses.

Huh? Shouldn't I have argued with him?!
As night fell, the wind picked up, firelight flickered in the city streets, and a cacophony of voices rose from the distance.

A dozen or so rioters gathered together and hurried across the street, carrying all sorts of weapons, while the leader carried a hunting rifle.

"Come on! Come on! Idiot! Can't you take something more valuable instead of just some junk cans?!"

"Haha, you stole women's clothing, let's see who you can sell it to!"

"Hurry! Let's rob a few more stores while the chaos is still going!"

The rioters were making a mess of their day’s loot, some still not satisfied.

"Igor! Look, there's a big house! It must belong to a rich man!" someone pointed to the villa in the darkness.

"Hey, we're in luck. Tell the guys to hurry up and grab one last bit of cash before the police arrive."

The leader waved his hand, and his men automatically split into two groups, each beginning to scale the fence and flank the house from the front and back doors. As the group slowly approached the gate, a crow flew past them.

Quack!!

A chilling bird call echoed in the darkness, and a bandit spat.

"Pah! What bad luck!"

"It's barking so loudly, won't it wake up the people inside?"

"Who cares? What's wrong with getting up? We're not thieves!"

The group of guys quickened their pace and rushed up, only to be pleasantly surprised to find that a window in the corridor on one side of the main entrance was open.

Fantastic! Now we don't even need to break down the door.

Soon, a nimble fellow climbed through the window and prepared to open the door for his accomplice.

Quack!!

The crow perched on a branch, staring strangely at the creature before it, and let out another strange cry.

Then, a deathly silence fell again. A minute passed, and the guy who went in didn't react at all, not even making a sound.

"Quick! Go in another one! See what's going on!" someone shouted.

Someone climbed through the window again. This time, he was more careful and even held the knife in his mouth so he could retaliate if anything happened.

Quack!!

Another crow cawed, and the scene fell silent again. The bandits began to feel uneasy; the dark window seemed like the mouth of some wild beast, having already devoured two of their companions.

A gust of cold wind blew by, and everyone present subconsciously shrank their necks.

"Igor, should we go in?" the person next to him asked uncertainly.

"Let's go, let's go to the back door!" The leader gritted his teeth, but in the end he couldn't bear to part with the tempting prize in front of him.

Based on previous lessons, the leader chose the most violent method this time.

"Step aside!"

The shotgun was pointed at the back door.

boom! ! ! !

Gunshots rang out, and after two shots, the door lock was smashed, and several thugs rushed in shouting!
The room was pitch black, and these guys instinctively looked for a light source.

Moonlight streamed through the window on the second-floor steps, and they saw a tall figure standing there.

woman? !
It looks quite pretty!
An unexpected gain appeared before his eyes, and the country bumpkin who had never seen the world felt the blood rushing to one direction.

However, the next second, the other party pulled out a shiny little thing.

boom!boom!boom! !

A crisp sound rang out in the hallway, and the mob that had burst in threw everyone into chaos.

"Run!!! That woman has a gun!!" someone shouted in panic.

"Charge! She doesn't have many bullets left!" This was an experienced and valiant guy!
The two groups of people were crammed together on the stairs in a chaotic manner, perfectly embodying the term "mob mentality."

At this moment, chaos broke out again at the rear of the column.

Bang bang bang bang bang! ! ! ! !
A dull thud, like that of a machine gun, rang out, knocking several valiant men to the ground. Then, clubs and pitchforks rained down on the heads of the remaining men.

"Get out here, all of you! Those who don't want to die, drop your weapons and lie on the ground!"

Under the moonlight, the priest in black robes stood with a gun, shouting at the remaining bandits.

A breeze blew by, causing the cross on his chest to sway slightly, and drops of blood rolled down the edge of the cross.

A completely black crow flapped its wings and perched on my shoulder, scanning me with its blood-red eyes!
