Animal Detective

Chapter 336 Don't try to scare me, I'm not afraid.

Chapter 336 Don't try to scare me, I'm not afraid.
Shen Xin and the others huddled in the car.

The sashimi that Hu Mingchuan bought was still left, and the police chief was enjoying it heartily.

The group anxiously discussed what to do.

According to their daily surveillance, the man doesn't get up early; he usually gets up around 7 a.m.

I didn't leave home until almost nine in the morning to go to work.

There's no way I should get up at this hour.

Also, men do have the habit of getting up at night, but it seems they don't get up much in the latter half of the night.

So they must have been alerted by the sheriff who came out.

Sure enough, from a distance, they saw the man open the curtains and peek out furtively.

The group became increasingly troubled.

I feel fine.

Zhang Songhao said softly, and seeing that everyone was looking at him, he analyzed, "Look, the sheriff didn't leave any trace."

"Even if he suspected someone had come in, the door and windows were all closed properly, so there was no way for someone to come in. He could only suspect that he hadn't closed them properly, or that there was a problem with the lock and that he had opened it himself."

"At worst, we'll just suspect something's up."

Zhang Songhao even cracked a joke at the end.

Shen Xinyi thought so too.

The doors and windows were all closed, and after searching around, there was no one there. So, no matter how much suspicion there was, the facts were right in front of us, and we could only conclude that it was some kind of coincidence.

Just like those so-called ghost stories on the internet that seem to have a lot of details, like windows suddenly opening, things moving on their own, or the TV suddenly turning on.

In fact, there are reasonable explanations for all of them.

The window is open, so the wind is blowing in.

The thing moved on its own; I must have misremembered.

If the TV suddenly turns on, there must be a problem with the circuit.

Therefore, if the conditions in reality are not met, then even the most impossible things can only be believed.

The person across from me is a bank executive; he should be highly educated and a staunch materialist. He wouldn't believe in those superstitious things, would he?

Sure enough, from everyone's perspective, the man began to turn on the lights in each room one by one.

They must be looking for it.

Inside the house, the man turned on all the lights in the master bedroom and searched everywhere he could hide, under the bed, in the closets.

Got nothing.

Unconvinced, he went out again, turned on all the lights in the villa, and searched the entire place from top to bottom.

I've checked the door too.

The door is smart, with a combination lock, and can record opening and closing times. It also has access control and a camera on the outside.

There was a record of the door being opened last night, but there was nothing in the access control system.

I checked all the windows on the first floor. Except for the kitchen, the basement ventilation shaft, and the window of a storage room, which were open.

But they all had a crack for ventilation, and they all had security windows installed.

No one can get in at all.

The side door for the nanny, the sliding door leading to the back garden, and the garage door were all closed.

There was no one there.

But instead of feeling relieved, the man became even more nervous.

He was absolutely certain that he had closed down.

I do not have a habit of sleepwalking.

Who opened the door?
ghost?
A thought popped uncontrollably into the man's mind, and he felt a chill run down his spine.

Especially since I had a nightmare before.

The feeling was so real that even now that I'm awake, it still feels vivid in my mind.

The man felt as if something was pressing down on him.

He suddenly turned around while sitting on the sofa.

There was nothing behind it.

But I couldn't help feeling uneasy and panicked.

Gritting his teeth, the man got up and searched the entire house again.

They even went to that secret room, but it was still the same; they found nothing, and there wasn't a single person there.

But the more this happened, the more afraid he became.

Unable to sleep, I turned on all the lights and just stared at them until dawn.

At seven o'clock in the morning, the garage door opened, and he drove away from home.

Everyone watched him leave.

"What's this? Are you suspicious?" Guan Wenkang asked softly.

They left in a rather hurried manner.

No one can give the answer.

Shen Xin didn't dare let the sheriff go in again, so he didn't know what happened inside.

The group has caught up.

Zhang Songhao hesitated for a moment and said, "Never mind, it's really nothing. Even if he really saw the sheriff, so what? It's just a cat, what can he suspect?"

This is the biggest advantage of cats conducting reconnaissance; they don't think much of what they've discovered.

The group nodded and said nothing more.

The main problem is that what's done is done, and there's no way to undo it.

All we can do is report the facts.

Zhang Songhao reported the situation to Qin Chunyi.

Qin Chunyi didn't say anything.

It was a cat, and ultimately, it was uncontrollable.

Finally, he simply said to observe further and then told everyone to go home.

Shen Xin and Zhang Songhao checked into a hotel to rest, and he even had his men from the branch office send over another collar.

This way, there's no need to charge it; you can replace it directly.

Shen Xin slept soundly until the afternoon before waking up.

After getting up, he angrily tossed the sheriff aside.

This guy, like the tyrant Da Mei, will occasionally sleep on top of you.

Especially Da Mei, after she got plump, she weighed over ten pounds. She was comfortable on people, but she didn't consider her master's situation at all.

At 6 p.m. sharp, everyone gathered.

I'll still eat boxed lunches.

Shen Xin noticed that Gao Siyu was still the same as before, taking a boxed lunch and eating it in the car by himself.

Shen Xin winked at Gu Dawei, who was on duty today.

Gu Dawei shrugged and said softly, "It's not that we don't like him, that's just how he is."

He paused for a moment, then said mysteriously, "I feel like he has a bit of OCD."

Shen Xin suddenly understood and didn't ask any more questions.

It rained lightly this evening, making the roads more congested. It was almost 8 p.m. before we finally got back to the villa.

Zou Cong.

Shen Xin already knew his name.

Zhang Songhao and the others may not say, but Shen Xin can search for it himself.

I've already met the person and know that it's related to Sheng Hai Bank. I searched on Sheng Hai Bank's official website and found it.

He is one of the five vice presidents of Sheng Hai Bank, and according to the official website, he is in charge of the credit department.

His resume shows that he worked at Shenghai Bank for many years, serving as vice president and chief risk officer at Matsuura's headquarters.

Shen Xin speculated that this case might be related to loan business.

I'm guessing it's some kind of illegal loan.

Sheng Hai Bank is a foreign bank, but it is still subject to domestic regulation.

Zou Cong drove past, but after only a minute or so, probably without even getting out of the car, he drove out again.

It also collided head-on with a group of vehicles that were monitoring it.

Gu Dawei quickly slapped his subordinates and drove after them.

They work in two shifts, with the second group responsible for nighttime surveillance.

Shen Xin was in the surveillance vehicle, ready to get to work, when Zou Cong suddenly left again.

I asked Hu Mingchuan from Group A, but he didn't know what had happened.

Not long after, news came from Gu Dawei.

It is said that Zou Cong went to a hotel and booked a room.

The surveillance vehicle immediately set off for the hotel. When they met up with Gu Dawei, he couldn't explain what had happened either.

They set up a room directly below Zou Cong's room and used listening devices to monitor the sounds coming from upstairs.

Inside the surveillance vehicle, you can hear sounds, hear people moving around, and the television is on.

I'll call occasionally, but it's always about work.

When Zhang Songhao arrived, he was puzzled: "He wasn't going to meet anyone, so why did he suddenly check into a hotel?"

No one could explain it, so they could only remain vigilant.

It was almost 11 p.m. when Zou Cong ordered takeout.

Then he ate it with gusto.

Inside the surveillance vehicle, everyone listened in silence, afraid of missing any details.

Guan Wenkang glanced at his phone and complained in frustration, "He's over forty, how can he last this long?"

The men's eyes became ambiguous.

Shen Xin analyzed seriously, "Think about it, they went in at a little after 11 o'clock, but it didn't start until half an hour later. Why?"

A few people understand it instantly.

The commotion didn't end until just after midnight.

Then it was gone.

After seeing the person off, Zou Cong slept soundly until dawn, and didn't go to work until almost nine o'clock the next day.

One group takes over.

Group Two can go home now.

The group began to murmur amongst themselves.

Gu Dawei's subordinate said, "You said he had business to attend to, so why didn't he go home? He's single, so his home should be safer."

Shen Xinshen agreed.

While it's easy to catch a bunch of people in budget hotels, it can take several days to catch one in a five-star hotel.

But there are still risks involved.

As far as Shen Xin knows, high-end hotels all have surveillance cameras equipped with facial recognition.

Those with criminal records are known to the other side as soon as they enter the hotel.

If Zou Cong, the vice president of a major bank, were to be implicated, it would be a bad look and could potentially affect his work.

It's actually safer at home.

He's not married, so who cares about his private life?

Guan Wenkang hesitated for a moment, then suggested a possibility: "Could it be that what happened last night scared him so much that he's afraid to go home?"

The crowd exchanged bewildered glances, unable to fathom Zou Cong's true thoughts.

On this day, a routine surveillance operation yielded nothing.

But around 7 p.m., Zou Cong went home.

Upon learning that Zou Cong had returned home, Shen Xin let the police chief into the house in advance.

His behavior yesterday was a bit unusual.

The sheriff could hear the faintest footsteps, so he waited directly outside the corridor leading from the underground parking garage.

Soon after, Zou Cong appeared on camera, tiptoeing around.

He turned on the light first, then looked around warily.

Unfortunately, the sheriff was not found.

The night before last, the sheriff wandered around the villa for a long time and became familiar with it. He could hide in any nook or cranny, and being dressed in black, he was hard to spot even if you walked right by.

“I think he was scared yesterday, which is why he didn’t go home,” Shen Xin said, pointing at the screen.

In the footage, Zou Cong searches the house thoroughly after entering.

This is clearly a search for someone.

The police are investigating, and even if it's just on the periphery, they'll definitely be alert if something happens to him.

There was no one inside, and the search yielded no results.

Zou Cong was relieved and busied himself preparing dinner for himself.

I cooked some frozen dumplings.

He grabbed a can of beer, leaned against the counter, and waited absentmindedly for the dumplings to cook.

As he was drinking, and in the instant he tilted his head back to drink, he suddenly caught a glimpse of something through the glass of the opposite window out of the corner of his eye.

It was dark outside, but the lights were on inside, so the glass reflected the view inside.

In that instant, he saw something in the reflection of the glass.

The dining room is on the other side of the kitchen.

From his angle, you can see a corner of the restaurant.

There was a dark, inconspicuous thing on the restaurant's display case.

Zou Cong was startled and quickly turned his head.

That spot was empty; there was nothing there.

He turned his head again and looked at the window, in the same spot, but the dark thing was gone.

Zou Cong blinked hard, but still nothing.

But he was certain he had actually seen it.

A quick glance revealed a dark shape.

He rushed to the restaurant and looked around; everything seemed normal.

There was nothing under the dining table, in every nook and cranny.

"who!"

Zou Cong called out, but there was no response; only the sound of water bubbling in the pot in the kitchen.

Just then, out of the corner of his eye, Zou Cong suddenly noticed lights coming from the direction of the stairs in the distance.

He hurried over and was surprised to find that the motion-sensor lights on the circular staircase had turned on at some point and were spreading upwards.

He installed automatic sensor-activated linear lights.

There are sensors at both the top and bottom, meaning that when someone passes by, the linear lights will automatically extend upwards and illuminate.

It's still a running light, lighting up at a speed similar to a person walking up stairs.

When Zou Cong arrived, the running light had already illuminated the corner of the stairs above.

It's like someone going up the stairs from the bottom and ending up at the corner of the stairs.

The problem is, there's no one on the stairs!

Zou Cong's hair stood on end.

He rushed up the stairs.

The lights were on in the living room on the second floor, but there was no one there.

Zou Cong's forehead was already covered in cold sweat. He shouted in a panic at the air, "Who is it? Come out now! I'm telling you, I'm not afraid! Come out now!"

Not far away, under a decorative cabinet against the wall, in a space of only ten centimeters, the sheriff huddled, quietly waiting for an opportunity.

He felt unsafe here.

Just as Zou Cong shouted twice in panic and turned to go downstairs, the police chief spotted him and darted into the room diagonally opposite.

At such close range, Zou Cong heard faint footsteps.

He turned his head sharply, but there was still nothing there.

At this moment, Zou Cong could no longer control the cold sweat pouring down his face.

There's no mistake, there's a problem, a big problem.

The curtains moved automatically even without wind, and the door opened by itself.

And that incredibly real nightmare.

The dark shadow I saw, and what happened just now—something definitely passed by behind me.

Zou Cong gripped the stair railing tightly, his eyes scanning every possible blind spot in front of him with terror.

Everything is the same as before.

But the deathly silence sent a chill down his spine.

"Yuan Jie, you...you're not scaring me, I'm not afraid."

His voice trembled as he tentatively shouted into the air.

No response.

Monitoring inside the vehicle.

Shen Xin immediately looked at Zhang Songhao beside him.

Who is Yuan Jie?
"Holy crap!" Gu Dawei exclaimed suddenly from behind.

Zhang Songhao's expression suddenly changed.
