Chapter 354 Yu Xiaoning's Heavenly Book

Chapter 354 Yu Xiaoning's Heavenly Book
Looking at Zhao Xiaochui's expression, Yu Xiaoning couldn't help but laugh. She pushed up her glasses, which she didn't usually wear, and asked in a half-joking, half-serious tone:

"This building... was it really given away for free? To be honest, Little Hammer, I've been wanting to ask you the same thing—what exactly did you do?"

Before Zhao Xiaochui could answer, she waved her hand and her smile faded: "Actually, even if you hadn't done anything, I could understand."

She pointed in the distance: "Go and see what Wangjing, Zhongguancun, and even the Guomao CBD are like now. How many Grade A office buildings have 'For Rent' signs on them? The vacancy rate is frighteningly high. The situation is even more special in Tongzhou."

"Instead of leaving this building vacant and turning it into a bad debt, it would be better to 'give' it to a hard-core technology company with explosive growth potential that can bring high-end jobs and future tax revenue. This is not only a clever way to solve the debt problem, but also a strategic investment in the future."

Yu Xiaoning gave Zhao Xiaochui a meaningful look: "Tongzhou still holds the title of the city's sub-center. Although I don't know what you've done, the city's chief steward sitting in an office at No. 57, East Canal Street, TZ District, must know."

Zhao Xiaochui: "..."

He was a little confused. He opened his mouth, then changed the subject to what he had done: "I... I only invested more than 90 million... Is that enough to support a company like this?"

He simply couldn't connect his "huge sum" with the hardcore technology company that Yu Xiaoning described as shouldering national missions and benchmarking against international giants.

Yu Xiaoning chuckled softly as she looked at his confused expression:
"More than 90 million yuan, not a single penny was used to buy buildings or land. Your money, as well as the subsequent matching investment from the National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund, was all focused on talent."

"As for the technological foundation?" She paused, then held up her fingers and listed them one by one, "The National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund (Big Fund) has granted us 17 core foundational patents shared with BGI Genomics free of charge. These patents cover the most fundamental algorithms, key data formats, and interface standards at the lowest level of integrated circuit design."

"Through nearly two months of recruitment," she said with a hint of pride, "based on BGI's core R&D artery, the department's core R&D team now has more than 120 people, including top architects, algorithm scientists, veterans in the EDA field, and postdoctoral fellows..."

Zhao Xiaochui was completely confused; these technical terms were too far removed from his understanding.

But he caught those "sensational" keywords in Yu Xiaoning's words, and his eyes widened instantly. He opened his mouth, but it took him a long time to utter a sound:

"Wait...wait! Sister Yu! You just said...poaching? Poaching whose talent? Hua...Hua Da Jiu Tian?!"

He felt his tongue was a little tied up.

Zhao Xiaochui had only ever heard of layoffs that crippled a company by cutting its core workforce, never of poaching someone else's core R&D talent! Could this... possibly work?!

He looked at the capable and sophisticated national-level HR woman in front of him and thought, "This woman is too ruthless!"
Suddenly, he snapped back to reality, grasped another meaning, and his voice rose eight octaves:

"Wait a minute! Sister Yu! You just said... 'this department'?! You mean... our 'In-Depth Exploration'... besides that ED department, there are other departments?!"

Yu Xiaoning couldn't help but laugh at Zhao Xiaochui's frightened expression, and she gracefully gestured for him to enter.

"Come on, don't just stand here like an idiot. I'll take you inside for a tour, so you can experience firsthand where you spent your 90 million and how you attracted those top talents."

Leading the group on a relaxed stroll, she first headed towards the magnificent, high-ceilinged lobby, introducing the place as she walked.

"Based on your opinion, Little Hammer, the people we dug up deserve the best."

As they passed through the automatic sensor glass door, the sight before them made Zhao Xiaochui and his team members behind him hold their breath slightly.

The lobby has a nearly three-story atrium, with a massive indoor green wall stretching from the ground to the dome, where the sounds of flowing water and the fresh scent of plants fill the air. A suspended, transparent glass staircase spirals upwards, creating a futuristic feel.

The office area features stylish and comfortable sofa sets and discussion areas. Top-brand freshly ground coffee machines and tea bars are available 24 hours a day, along with freshly cut and beautifully presented fruit platters and various snacks.

Yu Xiaoning specially took them to visit the staff restaurant located on the middle floor.

This place is comparable to a luxury buffet, with more than a dozen open kitchen windows offering a variety of choices from Chinese stir-fries and Western steaks to Japanese cuisine and healthy light meals. The ingredients are fresh and the dishes are prepared by a nutritionist.

"Everyone gets free meals, four meals a day, including late-night snacks," Yu Xiaoning emphasized.

The gym and shower rooms are equipped with high-end fitness equipment and a yoga room. Even the color temperature of the corridor lighting, the ergonomic design of the office chairs, and the height-adjustable desks next to each workstation have been carefully considered.

“Hardware is just the foundation,” Yu Xiaoning stopped at a tea area, beckoning Pan Xiaoli and the others over to prepare tea for them. “What truly retains those top talents is an undisturbed research environment, top-tier salaries, the sense of accomplishment from seeing their work contribute to the nation’s value, and…” She paused, her tone resolute:

"An achievement that was entirely predictable and will surely be recorded in history!"

After saying this, she smiled and gestured for the others to feel free to visit and experience the area. Then she led Zhao Xiaochui to a relatively quiet and spacious leisure area.

After taking her seat, Yu Xiaoning leaned forward slightly, looked directly at Zhao Xiaochui, and asked bluntly:

"Little Hammer, tell me the truth, besides that 90 million, how much cash do you have on hand?"

Before Zhao Xiaochui could answer, she sighed softly:

“I need to give you a heads-up. Your 90 million or so may sound like a huge sum, but it’s really just a drop in the ocean to support a research and development company like this. It’s not even a decent fraction of it.”

Zhao Xiaochui glared at Yu Xiaoning, then helplessly spread his hands: "That's not what you told me when you were rummaging through my pockets."

"The situation is different now!"

Yu Xiaoning took out a piece of paper and handed it to Zhao Xiaochui. On it was a complex formula and a piece of code.

"This is the content of the USB drive you gave me. I made a backup and didn't hand it over."

Zhao Xiaochui glanced at the book-like formula and immediately felt dizzy and looked away.

Yu Xiaoning didn't make things difficult for him. She simply rolled up the note silently, put it directly into her mouth, and swallowed it with her coffee.

Zhao Xiaochui: "..."

He thought to himself, there's really no need to print it out just so he can take a look, and to go through such a dramatic process.

Yu Xiaoning ignored his reaction, pondered for a moment as if organizing her thoughts, and then spoke softly:
In 2017, Google's research team published a groundbreaking paper, "Attention Is All You Need." This paper proposed a completely new neural network architecture called Transformer.

"In 2018, OpenAI released GPT-1, proving the potential of the Transformer."

"2019: Released GPT-2, demonstrating amazing text generation capabilities."

Yu Xiaoning stopped her explanation when she saw Zhao Xiaochui's bewildered expression.

"Researchers discovered an inconspicuous auxiliary concept in that groundbreaking paper—positional coding!"

Zhao Xiaochui's head was already a complete mess; he looked helplessly at Yu Xiaoning:
"Sister Xiaoning, just get to the point. I don't understand any of this."

Yu Xiaoning did not follow his usual request and continued his introduction:

"This year, a location coding scheme called RoPE, which can be described as overpowered, was created. Facebook's team further developed it in the LLaMA model. Several major Chinese companies that followed suit used this scheme or its variants."

"Little Hammer, I'm not trying to make things difficult for you, but I want you to understand what that USB drive means."

Yu Xiaoning took a deep breath, stared intently at him, and said, word by word:

"Based on the formulas and core algorithms, we can completely bypass all existing positional encoding schemes and create a brand new path called 'dynamic semantic field'."

"This means that, little hammer, in the future battle for the pinnacle of AI technology, we will no longer be passively catching up, but rather overtaking on a different track."

"Because of you," Yu Xiaoning said softly, "China has the potential to stand at the pinnacle of the next era of artificial intelligence."
