Chapter 165 I'm Looking for Ben Parker

Bernie contacted Detective Thomas of the Third Precinct and asked him to send over the completed sketch.

Soon, a teaching assistant recognized the portrait:

"This looks like Linda Susan Parker."

"Linda Susan Parker was a student who took our class last year."

The teaching assistant looked at the portrait, then shook his head, becoming uncertain.

He felt that the person in the portrait looked somewhat like Linda Susan Parker, but her clothes and appearance were completely unfamiliar and unlike the Linda Susan Parker he remembered.

Bernie turned to look at Theodore.

Theodore flipped through the list of suspects and found Linda Susan Parker's name.

This academic year, she is taking a course on the study of religious literature classics.

The two went to find a teaching assistant specializing in religious literature classics.

The teaching assistant glanced at the portrait and also said it was Linda Susan Parker.

He also told the two that Linda had not attended class last week or this week, nor had she handed in her homework.

This is a very abnormal situation.

In the eyes of the teaching assistant, Linda Susan Parker was a very good student.

She never misses class, listens attentively in class, actively participates in group discussions, and does her homework very diligently.

The only problem is that she always lets other students copy her homework, and sometimes she even helps other students write their homework.

The teaching assistant mentioned it to Linda several times, but the situation did not improve.

This made him suspect that Linda might have been bullied and forced to do this by other students.

The teaching assistant told the two of them with certainty that Linda was a bit shy, liked reading, didn't like to communicate with her classmates, and was the kind of student who was easily bullied.

Bernie asked him for more information about Linda.

The teaching assistant simply shook his head.

His only connection with Linda was the course on the study of religious literature classics.

Theodore and Bernie temporarily stopped talking to the teaching assistant and returned to the archives, where they found Linda Susan Parker's major through the student files.

She is a second-year student majoring in international relations.

The student file contains Linda Susan Parker's class schedule for this academic year, which shows that she will be quite busy today, with her schedule full of classes.

The two checked the class schedule and found that she hadn't attended class at all today.

According to feedback from the teaching assistants, Linda Susan Parker has never missed a class and has always submitted her assignments on time.

Although she had poor grades in several of her major courses, her attitude was always very positive.

Two weeks ago, on Monday, she skipped class for the first time.

She only skipped one class that day, but things quickly spiraled out of control.

By last week, apart from a few elective courses in literature, she had stopped attending her major courses.

Now she simply doesn't come to class anymore.

Bernie compared Linda Susan Parker's truancy records with the times the two criminals committed their crimes:
"On April 1, two criminals stole a police car for the first time, and two days later, on Monday, Linda Susan Parker skipped school for the first time."

"On April 8, the two criminals committed their first robbery. Two days later, on Monday, Linda Susan Parker skipped all her international relations classes and only attended classes that interested her."

"On April 15, the two criminals committed another robbery, and two days later, Linda Susan Parker is no longer attending classes."

Theodore glanced at him and nodded:
"She didn't suddenly decide to try skipping class on April 3rd."

"She's wanted to do this for a long time."

The campus security chief looked worried.

He had been following Theodore and Bernie, and had previously listened to Bernie's account in the principal's office, so he already had a basic understanding of the case.

He is the campus security supervisor, and his main responsibility is campus security.

If Linda Susan Parker really bought a bar and a Chicago typewriter, it would be fine if she just used them outside, but what if she came to campus and started using them...? The supervisor didn't dare to think any further.

He asked the two of them with a serious expression if Linda Susan Parker had missed class today because she had found a seller and gone to buy a BAR rifle and a Chicago typewriter.

Bernie shook his head:
"She was a complete novice who knew nothing about the market."

“A BAR rifle costs between $800 and $1000, but if she wants to buy one, the price will at least double.”

“It will be difficult for her to raise so much money in a short period of time.”

At this point, he suddenly remembered the phone number and home address in the student's file and suggested contacting her parents directly.

According to Theodore's profile, Linda Susan Parker came from a wealthy family and had a comfortable life. She had no prior contact with criminals and likely had very little experience living on the streets, so she would not have known how to obtain money through illegal means.

This can be seen from the two criminals' behavior during the two robberies.

Her only source of money should be asking her parents.

In that case, contacting her parents directly and asking if they have recently asked for a large sum of money would clarify whether she has bought a BAR rifle, or whether she still wants to buy one.

Theodore glanced at him but did not object.

He also wanted to contact the parents of the two criminals.

However, his purpose was different from Bernie's.

He wanted to learn more about the two criminals' upbringing.

Bernie did not take immediate action, but instead looked at the campus security director.

The campus security chief is now preoccupied with what to do if a bar appears on campus.

He was eager for Theodore and Bernie to capture Linda Susan Parker as soon as possible, and he didn't hesitate much, but he suggested informing the headmaster.

Bernie saw that this was his purpose, and immediately nodded.

The three went to the principal's office.

Bernie requested to contact Linda Susan Parker's parents and explain the situation in detail.

The campus security chief then educated the principal on the power of the BAR rifle and the Chicago typewriter.

Bernie added from the side:
"She currently has a Winchester M1912 and a revolver in her possession."

The principal waved to him and made a phone call.

A few minutes later, Linda Susan Parker's student file was delivered by the principal's assistant.

The principal opened the document and glanced at it, confirming that she was indeed a student at Emily University.

He handed the file to Bernie, letting Bernie confirm that he hadn't made a mistake, then put the file away and handed it back to Bernie.

He agreed to Bernie and his group's request.

Furthermore, the principal stated that he would cooperate fully with Theodore and Bernie's investigation.

Bernie took the file, looking somewhat surprised.

Compared to yesterday and this morning, the principal seems a bit too accommodating.

The principal thought he was going to make a phone call here, so he pushed the telephone on the table toward Bernie.

Bernie thought about it and didn't refuse.

He picked up the receiver and dialed the number registered in the student's file.

A voice quickly came through the receiver:
"This is AT&T long-distance service. Where would you like to connect?"

Bernie read aloud the registration information:
"Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, number XX-xxxx".

After a few seconds of hissing white noise, a woman's voice came through the receiver:

"This is Parker Steel Company. Who are you looking for?"

Bernie: "I'm looking for Ben Parker."
