Bernie comforted his wife for a couple of minutes, then ran over and followed Theodore.
A detective tried to stop him, but he pushed him aside.
At this point, he only trusted himself.
Theodore had the patrol officers clear away the people around him and walked inch by inch through the crime scene.
The school stipulates that parents must sign before taking their children away, but judging from today's events, this rule is clearly ineffective.
Paul Anderson swaggered into the campus, signed David Moore's name, and took Donald Moore away.
Sullivan was followed nearly 40 yards from the school gate and then dragged for another 13 yards before a school teacher noticed something was wrong.
Paul Anderson carried the two men under his arms and ran another 4-5 yards before being picked up by a red pickup truck.
Unfortunately, no one saw the pickup truck's license plate; all they knew was that it was probably a Ford F-1.
Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of the red pickup truck, but there are no results yet.
After Theodore completed two laps, he immediately rushed towards the car.
Although Bernie didn't know what was going on, he chose to trust Theodore and followed him directly.
Theodore asked as he ran, "To the Blue Parrot Motel."
Without saying a word, Bernie turned the car around and sped off.
Theodore picked up the walkie-talkie. "The kidnapper, Paul Anderson, works at the Blue Parrot Motel. He might take the hostage there."
A series of "Received" and "Understood" came through the walkie-talkie immediately, and patrol cars began to follow them one after another.
Bernie, his eyes red, kept accelerating, as if he had gone mad.
Theodore gripped the walkie-talkie, thought for a moment, and then said, "Attention everyone, the kidnapper is Paul Anderson, bald, 74 inches tall, weighing around 220 pounds, bald, with numerous tattoos on his arms."
The elderly man and the teacher both mentioned that Paul Anderson and Bernie were similar in build, and Theodore was reporting Bernie's physical data.
"The target is a professional kidnapper with accomplices, suspected to be a gang member. Considering the possibility of someone directing this, we must capture him alive."
"He might be our only lead. He absolutely has to be alive."
…………
Blue Parrot Motel, Room 208.
Paul Anderson and his associates are being verbally abused.
The one who insulted them was their boss, Dwayne Johnson.
Carl Sullivan clutched his stomach, curled up in the corner with a pained expression, and eavesdropped on their conversation while secretly patting his best friend's cheek.
Beside him, Donald Moore lay unconscious on the ground, unresponsive to his pats.
Sullivan looked around and soon spotted the ashtray on the bed. He stared intently at Johnson's back and carefully moved toward the bed.
"He's Bernie Sullivan's son!" Johnson was furious, pointing at Paul Anderson and yelling, "Bernie Sullivan! You know who he is!"
"Are you trying to kill me?! Are you an idiot?!"
He glanced back and saw that little Sullivan was pale, his forehead was covered in sweat, his body was dirty, and his thighs were covered in blood. He was half-lying on the bed, reaching for the ashtray.
The moment he saw Johnson turn around, Sullivan's mind went blank, and intense fear made him freeze.
It was a completely subconscious action; he grabbed the ashtray and smashed it against the window.
The ashtray broke its glass, making a noise.
Before he could even cry for help, Johnson had already come over with a sinister grin and covered his mouth.
Little Sullivan struggled fiercely, but he was too small to break free from the adult's grasp. He twisted his body and bit Johnson's palm with his mouth wide open.
"Help—smack!"
Johnson winced in pain and slapped Sullivan hard across the face. Sullivan hit his head on the corner of the table and passed out.
Johnson grabbed the sheet and wiped his hands haphazardly. The pain in his palms fueled his ferocity. He raised his foot to kick Sullivan a couple of times, but then put it down.
He bent down and picked up little Sullivan, a fierce glint in his eyes.
"You two get rid of this brat right now. Just find an abandoned oil well and throw him in."
"After I've dealt with this, I'm going to Mexico to lay low for a while."
"I'll handle this."
"We can't stay here any longer. Let's go, leave immediately."
After saying that, Johnson picked up little Sullivan and left.
With these two henchmen blocking his way and buying him some time, he needed to hurry home to pack his valuables and prepare to flee.
Paul Anderson and his partner looked at each other blankly for a while before they finally took action.
His companion went to get the car, while Paul Anderson carried the unconscious Donald Moore downstairs.
As soon as the two stepped out of the room, a large group of police cars sped up and quickly surrounded the Blue Parrot Motel.
Bernie's car was in the lead. He saw Donald Moore being held in Paul Anderson's arms and was so excited that he jumped out of the car before it had even come to a complete stop.
Theodore, however, looked grave.
There were two people on the other side. If Sullivan was still here, shouldn't they each carry one hostage if they wanted to transfer the hostages?
Paul Anderson and his companions were held at gunpoint by dozens of guns and dared not move.
Bernie took Donald Moore from him and handed him to the detective behind him before rushing into the house.
After a brief moment of stunned silence, he took two steps forward, then stopped.
He resisted the urge to turn the place upside down.
Theodore stopped the detectives, put on gloves and shoe covers, and went inside.
The window glass was smashed, and the broken edge suggests it was recently damaged.
The bed sheet was disheveled, with large patches of sweat and unidentified liquid stains on it, and cigarette ash and butts were scattered on the bedside table.
An overturned bottle of amphetamines lay on the bedside table. There was blood in one corner, and bloodstains were wiped off the sheets.
Several used umbrellas, underwear, pants, and other items were scattered haphazardly on the ground.
Theodore roughly reconstructed the scene in his mind.
“Good news,” he said to Bernie. “Sullivan is alive.”
He pointed to the broken window and said, "He was brave; he smashed the window with an ashtray to call for help. Bernie, he's still alive."
Bernie clenched his fists, looked at the broken glass, and his voice choked with emotion.
"I taught him."
"That's what I taught him!"
Sometimes when Bernie was on leave at home, he would teach young Sullivan some police training content. They were even scolded by Mrs. Sullivan for breaking a window at home.
Theodore patted him on the shoulder, but he wasn't as optimistic as the man.
Sullivan's act of self-rescue enraged the robbers.
Combined with the medication left by the bedside, the robber's emotions are currently very unstable.
He's like a bomb; you never know what Sullivan might do to detonate it.
