Chapter 15: Fingers Gnawing on by Rats!
Yang Jinwen turned around abruptly, and after seeing the person's appearance clearly, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief. He patted his chest and exclaimed, "Master, you almost scared me to death!"

Zheng Kang stared at him with a livid face: "Yang Jinwen, listen to me! No matter what your relationship with Director Lu is, I'm telling you right now, I'm not taking on this apprentice of yours anymore. Go find whoever you want!"

Yang Jinwen swallowed hard and blinked. "Master, why are you angry? Just because I didn't wait for you? I came here to look for clues! I think Huang Cuicui was definitely murdered here, and it's very likely!"

Zheng Kang gritted his teeth: "Don't fucking try that on me! This isn't how you find clues!"

Yang Jinwen explained, "Look around here. It's evening on May 30th. There's definitely no one around here, and there are obstacles on both sides. Whether it's murder or something else, this is the ideal place. I'm not just making things up."

Zheng Kang looked him straight in the eye, extended his index finger, and tapped his nose with it: "Do you know why we police officers have to mentor and guide others? Besides teaching you new recruits our experience, we also need to protect your safety!"
In our investigation, if we're dealing with ruthless and vicious criminals, if you're alone, you're easily targeted. Once you're in danger, you'll be completely helpless! Do you understand?!

Yang Jinwen sighed and lowered his head: "Master, I understand."

Seeing that although he had compromised, he wasn't entirely convinced, Zheng Kang was furious. "Fine, don't call me master anymore. I don't have a disciple like you; I'm not worthy of your status!"

Yang Jinwen nodded and turned to walk towards the entrance of the ancestral hall.

Zheng Kang quickly called out, "Where are you going?"

"Find evidence!" Yang Jinwen said without turning his head.

"Damn it, I can't believe I've run into someone like you! You stubborn mule!" Zheng Kang cursed as he followed.

The two main doors and the lintel of the ancestral hall had long been removed, probably taken away and used as firewood.

Stepping through the decaying threshold, one can see the courtyard inside, where a gentle rain falls from the sky, landing on the overgrown yard.

This is a wooden building with four walls and two floors. There are also wooden round pillars on both sides, some of which have collapsed and some have been chopped with an axe. This building is somewhat like the mansion of a top scholar from the Ming and Qing dynasties.

It's quite frightening if they come over in the middle of the night.

It's raining now, the light is dim, and the atmosphere naturally feels a bit eerie.

Zheng Kang couldn't help but shudder, glancing at Yang Jinwen: "I say, you've got some nerve, kid."

"division……"

Yang Jinwen remembered how Zheng Kang had just rebuked him, so he changed his words and said, "Uncle Zheng, this used to be the home of Lin Miaosheng, the top scholar in the imperial examination. Lin is a common surname here. His ancestors were the top scholars in the Qing Dynasty. Later, because he committed a crime, his family fell into decline, and his relatives converted his home into an ancestral hall."

Last year, the government issued the demolition notice, and all the residents moved away. The ancestral hall is a bit dilapidated, but there's nothing to be afraid of.

“That’s not what I’m asking you.” Zheng Kang rolled his eyes. “What I mean is, as a green recruit, your file hasn’t even been transferred yet, and you’ve already plunged headfirst into this case. You’re incredibly bold. What are you after?”

As Yang Jinwen walked toward the wing room on the left, he casually replied, "Serve the people."

"What?"

These words stunned Zheng Kang, who wanted to teach Yang Jinwen a lesson about hierarchy.

Stepping into the side room, Yang Jinwen was about to walk forward when he immediately stopped.

Zheng Kang was blocked at the door and said with dissatisfaction, "Don't block my way."

Yang Jinwen turned around, his expression grave, and said in a serious tone, "We need to notify the technical team immediately. The scene of Huang Cuicui's murder has been found."

Zheng Kang was stunned for several seconds. After he came to his senses, he quickly pushed Yang Jinwen away and turned his gaze into the room.

The house faces the main road outside, and there is a window opposite it. Several wooden window frames are broken, but right under the window, there is a bed of withered yellow straw.

A large pool of thick, brown blood had congealed on the straw, and a bloody handprint was imprinted on the stone-paved wall! "Squeak squeak squeak..."

Suddenly, two fat rats darted out of a hole in the corner of the wall, startling the two men.

Yang Jinwen stomped his foot hard on the ground, and the rat, startled, scurried back to its hole.

Yang Jinwen said with a grim face, "That damned beast is licking the blood off the ground!"

Zheng Kang was breathing heavily and couldn't help but want to step over the threshold, but Yang Jinwen stopped him: "Don't ruin the scene!"

------------

One p.m.

Before the police car that had just arrived had even come to a complete stop, He Jinbo opened the door and hurriedly jumped out.

After receiving Zheng Kang's notification, he was supposed to come immediately, but he was late because he had to wait for the technical police officers in the team to come together.

The local police officer had already set up a cordon at the entrance of the ancestral hall. Maozi and Zheng Kang were standing outside the cordon, discussing something with their heads down.

He Jinbo rushed over and his first question was, "Old Zheng, did you really find the scene of the murder?"

Zheng Kang nodded, his brow furrowed, his tone not very happy. "The police tape is all up; how could it be fake?"

He Jinbo gave Zheng Kang a shove on the shoulder with a beaming smile.

"You've got it! Just one day has passed, and we've found the source of the body and the crime scene. We're not far from solving the case! Old Zheng, you've saved us a lot of trouble. You deserve credit!"
"Once the case is solved, when the case file is written, your name should be listed first!"

Zheng Kang touched his nose and remained silent.

The cat looked like it was holding in its pee and was in great discomfort.

He Jinbo, being the shrewd old fox he was, immediately sensed something was wrong with their expressions: "What's wrong? Is there a problem?"

The cat 'peed' out: "Master, Yang Jinwen found this place."

"he?!"

He Jinbo's eyes widened, and he couldn't help but ask, "How did he find his way here?"

The cat shrugged: "I'm totally confused too."

He Jinbo looked at Zheng Kang, who coughed twice and instructed the two technical officers and Wen Ling who got out of the car: "Did you bring acrylic sheets? We'll build a bridge in a bit. The room is full of blood, so don't disturb the scene."

Seeing that he was talking about other things, He Jinbo put aside his doubts and called the technicians in.

After putting on disposable shoe covers and gloves, the group carried their survey kits and filed into the ancestral hall.

As soon as the group arrived at the door, they saw Yang Jinwen squatting in the corner of the wall by the window, with a red brick under his feet. He was poking around in the straw with two thin sticks.

Then, he blinked, picked up something with a stick, and examined it closely.

Standing behind He Jinbo, Wen Ling glanced at the fingertips and couldn't help but swallow hard: "These are the victim's fingers!"

The finger had been gnawed away by rats, leaving only half a finger bone!
