Chapter 28 The Witch Sophia
Chapter 28 The Witch Sophia
After Yuri Burns led the fifth and sixth-level wizarding prodigies away, Locke and Lauen, among the remaining wizarding prodigies, discovered that they had been assigned to different teachers.
The letter from Laun read: "Hamerke Uth, a light magic prodigy of the Evoking School, a first-circle wizard, mentor of the Light Magic Society of the Southeast Corner, mentor of the Healing Wizard at Lilith's Hut, and inventor of the Death Ray Charm."
The letter in Locke's hand was addressed to Sophia Serafina, a first-circle wizard from the Plant Magic Sub-direction of the Life School.
Laun asked curiously, "Why is the mentor assigned to me with a bunch of titles, while the mentor assigned to you only has a simple first-ring wizard title?"
Locke replied nonchalantly, "Who knows?"
"Anyway, the title of a formal wizard is the most valuable. Laun, I'm going to the designated location on the letter now."
Lauen also said goodbye to Locke, saying, "Okay, but judging from the situation, after we enroll, we'll probably have to find a place to live in the city where Lilith House is located."
"Why don't we live together? That way, we can look after each other."
"It seems that you and your two friends were not assigned to the same wizarding school, and the same is true for me."
"I don't trust anyone else either."
Locke had no objection to this. "Alright. When I return from Mentor Sophia's place, we'll meet again here."
Patty stayed at the University of Verdandia, while Codd was rejected by the university and ended up joining a small wizarding organization called the Raven's Nest Brigade.
The wizarding organization called the "Raven's Nest Brigade" seems to have only one first-ring wizard. It is a recently established wizarding organization and lacks apprentices.
Therefore, Locke immediately agreed.
Living with Laun would also be beneficial for him, as it would ensure the safety of both of them.
Moreover, Laun is a good person and not someone who is easy to pry into, so I don't need to worry about him exposing any of my secrets.
Carrying his luggage and holding his letter of recommendation, Locke crossed the port city of Lilith's Hut and headed to the wooden house located on the southwestern edge of the port city.
Along the way, because he was clearly a wizard's apprentice, no one dared to stop him, and people walking on the street would silently give way to him.
The status of a wizard apprentice seems to be very high here.
Locke quickly reached the edge of the port city and saw several simple wooden houses standing in the fields ahead.
The wooden houses were surrounded by a circle of pebbles.
As Locke carried the letter of recommendation and stepped across the cobblestone circle, the stamp on the upper right corner of the letter suddenly emitted a red light, became hot, and then Locke crossed the barrier and entered the wooden house.
Lilith House is an open wizarding organization, so its buildings are scattered in different nearby cities.
However, without a special token, outsiders cannot enter these wooden houses, and they cannot even get close to or see them.
After entering the pebble barrier, Locke discovered that these small wooden houses were actually very tall and had a large interior space. The houses contained many experimental instruments and a considerable collection of books.
Locke looked at the wooden cabin in the middle where someone was. Inside the open office door, a young witch wearing a monocle and a gray wizard's hat with a vine wrapped around it was at her desk, sketching an unusually complex spell model with a quill pen.
The witch writes very quickly, taking about three minutes to draw a very complex spell model diagram, which she then throws aside with great dissatisfaction.
Her desk was already piled high with blueprints for spell models, some as tall as half a person.
"Hmm? Strange little wizard apprentice, what brings you to my office? I'm very busy right now." Instructor Sophia didn't look up, continuing to draw spell models as she spoke. Her voice sounded very young, like she was in her early twenties, and even her tone sounded quite immature.
Locke was somewhat surprised; he hadn't expected his mentor, Sophia, to be so easygoing.
He produced a letter of recommendation. "Professor Serafina, I am Locke Augustine, a new student at Lilith Hut this year."
"The college assigned me to be your student; I'm here to register."
Upon hearing this, Sofia Serafina paused in her quill, then looked up, revealing a very young face. She looked somewhat surprised and exclaimed, "The academy has actually assigned me a student!"
"But I haven't even signed a contract with the college yet."
Sophia coughed, trying to project the dignity of a wizarding mentor and a first-circle wizard, as if she were only now realizing her true status. She even cast a spell to change the color of a flower on the vine atop her wizard's hat from pink to a more dignified white.
Sophia waved her hand, and the letter of recommendation in Locke's hand flew into hers. After a brief examination, she said, "This is indeed the seal of Lilith's Cottage."
"It seems you've been assigned to me."
Sophia muttered to herself, "It seems the academy wants to keep me here as much as possible. But..."
Sophia looked at Locke and explained, "Alright, Locke Augustine, right? I've seen your file. Your Level 3 aptitude is neither high nor low. But aptitude isn't everything. As long as you study hard, nothing in the future is certain."
"Because I became a full-fledged wizard a month ago, I don't have any first-class wizard apprentices that I personally teach, that is, your senior classmates."
Sophia seemed a little guilty. "So, from now on, I'll personally teach you all the professional courses, is that alright?"
“During my first-class wizarding apprenticeship, I also helped first-ring wizards teach quite a few courses, so I'm not a complete novice in this area.”
Locke blinked. He finally understood why Lauen's recommendation letter had a bunch of titles on his mentor, while his own recommendation letter only had a simple first-ring wizard title.
It turned out that his mentor had only been a formal wizard for a month.
In other words, Sophia the Witch is essentially a first-class wizard apprentice who has just become a formal wizard.
She naturally had no airs, and since she didn't have any first-class wizard apprentices to teach, she had to take matters into her own hands.
However, this is actually a good thing for me.
After all, originally only by becoming a second-class wizard apprentice could one have the opportunity to meet a formal wizard, and even then, it was estimated that one would be lucky to meet a wizard a few times a year.
But now, due to this special circumstance, I am essentially taking every professional course as a formal wizard.
