Chapter 27 College Roommate
Chapter 27 College Roommate
Qin Chaoyang's offer to make him class monitor showed that he truly appreciated and valued him, and Song Ci was afraid that the class teacher would misunderstand her as ungrateful.
So he explained, "I started a company during the summer vacation, and I need to keep track of the company's affairs in my spare time. I am grateful to Teacher Qin for being the class monitor."
Qin Chaoyang was greatly surprised to hear this. Many college students are starting their own businesses now, and the country and schools also have policies to support them, but they basically only start doing so in their senior year or at least their junior year.
This was the first time he had ever heard of someone like Song Ci, who started a business during his high school summer vacation before university even started.
He was very interested in Song Ci's company. If his students succeeded in starting their own businesses during their university years, wouldn't that be a credit to the college leaders and himself?
Just as I was about to have a detailed discussion with Song Ci, I saw another new student arriving to report for duty, and I knew that today was not a good time for a conversation.
He then instructed Song Ci, "Go to your dormitory first. The school has policies to support college students starting businesses. After you've finished these few busy days before the start of the semester, prepare your company information and come see me. We'll discuss it in detail then."
Song Ci was naturally very grateful for her homeroom teacher's repeated kindness and politely replied, "Thank you for your care, Teacher Qin. If there's nothing else, I'll head to the dormitory now."
Qin Chaoyang was busy guiding the new students through the registration process and didn't have time to answer Song Ci, so he waved for him to go to the dormitory.
After receiving his meal card, key, and some other items, Song Ci went straight to room 310 of the School of Management dormitory building. Upon entering, he found only one young man quietly reading in the room, which was filled with a studious atmosphere.
The dormitory is bright, clean and tidy, with two bunk beds and four desks placed against the wall.
Only the lower bunk near the door was empty; the other three beds had neatly made bedding, indicating that his three roommates had already registered and arrived at the dormitory before him.
Hearing the noise, the roommate turned around and saw someone enter the dormitory. At first, he thought it was the fourth person in the dormitory, but when he saw that the person did not bring any luggage, he was puzzled.
Only after the visitor placed their backpack on the bed did they hesitantly ask, "Are you a freshman in our dorm?"
Song Ci carefully examined her roommate, who was about half a head shorter than her, somewhat thin, with dark skin, and looked honest and unassuming. She guessed that he must have suffered a lot during his studies.
After all, they were going to be roommates who would be eating, living and working together in the future, so Song Ci tried her best to appear gentle and friendly, and smiled at the person in front of her: "Hello classmate, I am Song Ci from the class of 04 in Finance."
The young man felt a little ashamed looking at his handsome new roommate, but Song Ci's refined and humble smile warmed his heart. He then responded with a simple smile, "Hello, I am your roommate, also a 04 finance major, Tang Xiaochuan."
Tang Xiaochuan was always a little shy when he spoke. Song Ci learned from his conversation that he came from the mountainous area of Sichuan Province and this was the first time he had ever left his county town. He was not used to the hustle and bustle of Beiping and was a little insecure because he was new to the city.
Tang Xiaochuan and his two other roommates reported for duty yesterday. The other two roommates are named Lin Hao, from Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, and Lu Yugang, from Harbin, Northeast China.
The two of them went for a stroll on campus together early in the morning and are not in their dorms now. Together with Song Ci, the four of them are all from the 04 Finance class and are in the same class.
Song Ci quickly tidied up her bed and prepared to go out to buy toiletries. Just as she was about to leave, she bumped into the two of them.
The man was extremely strong, with a square face and healthy wheat-colored skin. He was even taller than Song Ci, who was 1.81 meters tall, and was estimated to be around 1.85 meters tall.
The other person was a chubby little boy with a round head and fair skin. He looked somewhat simple and honest and was about the same height as Tang Xiaochuan.
The height difference between the two standing together is obvious, making them look somewhat comical.
"Brother, you're here! Now everyone in room 310 is here." The tall guy was very enthusiastic and was very happy to see Song Ci. He spoke in a thick Northeastern accent, and Song Ci immediately guessed that he was Lu Yugang.
"Hello, I'm Lin Hao." The chubby boy quickly greeted Song Ci as well. "Good day, both of you, I'm Song Ci!"
With all four roommates gathered, Song Ci stopped rushing to buy things and started chatting with her roommates.
The four chatted for a while, then mentioned their birthdates and ranked themselves by age. Lu Yugang, born in December 1984, was the eldest in the dormitory.
Tang Xiaochuan was born in July 1985, and Lin Hao was born in February 1986, making them the second and third oldest in the dormitory. Song Ci was the youngest, born on New Year's Day in 1987, making him the fourth oldest in the dormitory.
Lin Hao, speaking in his distinctive Nanjing dialect, exclaimed, "Damn, Fourth Brother, you're unbelievable! Not only are you so handsome, but you also got into Peking University's Guanghua School of Management at just 17. How are others supposed to compete? Want a smoke?"
Lin Hao comes from a well-off family. He is an only child from the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai region, and both his parents are cadres in Jiangsu Province. He was spoiled from a young age.
But he was strictly controlled by his parents during high school. Now that he's in college, he's free from their control and is letting loose. He took out a pack of Jinling 95 cigarettes from his desk drawer and handed them out to the group.
Lu Yugang took one, first sniffed it, and immediately recognized it as the work of a seasoned smoker.
"Nine-Five Supreme, good cigarette, but we in Northeast China prefer Huazi." After saying that, he took out a lighter, lit it, took a deep drag of the cigarette between two fingers, and looked somewhat ecstatic.
Song Ci waved his hand, refusing Lin Hao's kindness. He had never liked smoking or drinking in his previous life, and he was even more averse to both in this life.
Lin Hao didn't insist. Seeing that Song Ci wasn't smoking, he handed the cigarette in his hand to Tang Xiaochuan.
Tang Xiaochuan was somewhat eager to try smoking one, but he was also a little embarrassed.
"Go ahead and smoke, second brother. We're brothers from now on, no need to be so polite." Lin Hao said heartily, smiling as he stuffed the cigarette into Tang Xiaochuan's hand.
Tang Xiaochuan chuckled, borrowed a lighter from Lu Yugang to light a cigarette, and joined Lin and Lu in puffing away.
Lu Yugang exhaled a smoke ring, glanced at Song Ci's bed, and then looked around the dormitory. "Where's your luggage, Lao Si?"
Song Ci stepped back slightly to avoid the smoke exhaled by the three people and explained, "I am a local from Beiping. My home is not far from the school. If I need anything, I can go back to get it on the weekend, or I can buy a new one at the school, so I didn't bring any luggage."
Upon hearing that Song Ci was from Beiping, Tang Xiaochuan felt even more envious. All his roommates came from big cities, while he was the only one from a remote mountain village.
Seeing Tang Xiaochuan's envious expression, Song Ci knew what he was thinking. She patted him on the shoulder and encouraged him, "Xiaochuan, I can tell you that getting here is already defying fate. Study hard in university and make the most of your youth."
Lu Yugang nodded, recalling his arduous high school years, and said with heartfelt emotion, "Old Fourth is right. If we work hard for four more years in university, we will all have a bright future."
He came from an ordinary working-class family and always followed his parents' teachings to study hard. After three years of hard work, he was admitted to Peking University, one of the top universities in the country.
Hearing his roommate's encouragement, Tang Xiaochuan was filled with excitement. He clenched his fists and vowed to work hard and strive for a better future.
