Chapter 11 Door

"Don't panic, tell me slowly," Zhang Wenda said, quickly pulling on his glasses to steady him.

Seeing that Glasses was trembling and unable to speak, the fat man next to him quickly spoke up: "Mouse! There's a cat! There's a cat in the calligraphy room."

"A cat?!" Zhang Wenda was taken aback, unsure whether the cats in this world were the creatures he remembered.

If it were just a cat from his past memories, they shouldn't be so frightened.

Zhang Wenda hurriedly pulled out the Children's Palace Guidebook and quickly flipped to the page about the calligraphy room. However, there was no record of cats on it. The old man Ding only told students not to enter the large pit in the center of the calligraphy room, although he didn't know why there was a large pit in the center of the calligraphy room.

"No, this is the People's Education Press edition. It's missing some appendices. The teacher reminded us about the new appendices during class."

"Our Chinese teacher said there can't be any living creatures in the Children's Palace. If there were other animals, we'd be in big trouble," the other students chimed in, trying to explain to Zhang Wenda.

As soon as the others finished speaking, the lights flickered again, and the once brightly lit Children's Palace became dimly lit.

The unusual situation made others even more frightened.

"Don't panic, don't panic." Zhang Wenda glanced at the digital watch on the chubby boy's arm again and found that it was already 5:10.

"That's about enough, it's almost time. Even if things go like this, the teacher won't say anything if we leave. Pack your things, we're leaving right now!"

He didn't care what kind of cat it was, what was happening at the youth palace, or what was going on in this run-down place. None of that was surprising. When he realized something was wrong, his first reaction was to retreat.

He'd rather be punished by the rules than stay in this godforsaken place any longer.

The others were clearly flustered, and when they heard Zhang Wenda say this, they all regarded him as their pillar of support and gathered around him.

Supported by Glasses and Little Fatty, the battered and bruised Zhang Wenda led a group of people back the way they came.

Just then, accompanied by a hissing sound, all the light bulbs in the corridor dimmed again, but this time they didn't come back on. Only one or two remained lit. Seeing this, everyone sped up.

With a "snap," Zhang Wenda turned on his flashlight, supplementing the missing brightness.

In the dim light, Zhang Wenda seemed to sense something rattling from inside the closed doors, and the atmosphere began to feel uneasy.

"Go! Go quickly!!" Zhang Wenda's expression even began to turn somewhat ferocious. He shook off the hands of the two people who were supporting him and began to run with the others.

Fortunately, the corridor wasn't long, and in just over ten seconds, they had reached the door.

Just as Zhang Wenda shone his flashlight forcefully against the wall, a chill seemed to instantly creep up his neck and onto his head, and the door vanished.

He reached out and touched it, but only felt a cold wall. The wooden door that should have been on the wall, bearing the inscription "Serving the People," had disappeared!

Now everyone else was completely panicked, and many even started crying.

Clearly, even for locals like them, the current situation is extremely unusual.

"I'm asking if... is there any possibility?" Zhang Wenda's smile was somewhat forced. "Is there any possibility that the Youth Palace opens promptly at 6 PM?" However, the chubby boy beside him shook his head frantically. "No, the doors here are always open."

"Besides... 6 o'clock... if we leave at 6 o'clock, we'll miss the cartoon."

"What the hell is going on here?!" Zhang Wenda was completely bewildered. He knew there was something wrong with this place!
He then turned to look at Glasses, who clearly had excellent grades, and quickly asked, "I missed class this morning. Did the teacher say how to deal with this kind of big trouble?!"

"Yes!" The other person trembled as they held up the Children's Palace Guidebook in their hand, quickly tore it off, and pasted the pages one by one in the corner of the corridor.

"The rule the teacher said is that if something goes wrong, we should stand on the paper and wait, and Teacher Rabbit will save us."

Hearing this, the others followed suit, tearing down all the guidebooks for the youth palace and sticking them all over the corners. Looking around, there was a whole bunch of old men.

Then Zhang Wenda saw that all the students were huddled on the paper, looking around anxiously and trembling.

"Did the teacher really say that?" Zhang Wenda asked with a hint of uncertainty.

"Really, really, why would we lie to you in this situation?" Little Fatty said softly.

After completing the teacher's instructions, the students, who were either lying or sitting on the papers, became noticeably calmer and sat on the ground waiting for the so-called "rabbit teacher" to rescue them.

Seeing their confident expressions, Zhang Wenda said nothing more and spread his own guide on the ground as well.

Time passed second by second, and at this moment all the light bulbs in the entire Children's Palace went out completely, leaving only Zhang Wenda's flashlight as the sole source of light.

He clenched his fists, preparing for any possible accidents that might happen. His left hand was alright, but his right hand was broken. Although it had been straightened, he still couldn't use it without the help of a lollipop.

Zhang Wenda could hear the noise inside the room getting louder and louder. He glanced at Fatty's watch and realized that 10 minutes had passed, but Teacher Rabbit had not appeared to save them. He began to feel anxious.

Suddenly, Zhang Wenda's waving flashlight stopped on the left wall. Six black chess pieces with densely packed centipede legs were lined up on the wall. Upon seeing this, his face turned almost ashen.

The guidelines for children's palaces demonstrate the urgency of the situation, suggesting that things started going wrong from the model airplane room onwards.

At first, the holes in the model airplane room were made bigger than usual, then the light bulbs started flickering, and finally a cat appeared out of nowhere, along with a row of black chess pieces. The situation got worse with each occurrence.

Although he didn't know what was happening at the youth center or what the situation was like there, Zhang Wenda understood that the situation was still deteriorating!
Frustrated, Zhang Wenda tugged at the collar of his short-sleeved shirt and noticed that the temperature inside the Children's Palace was also starting to rise.

After glancing at the others again, Zhang Wenda gritted his teeth and decided to listen to the locals first.

A few minutes later, Zhang Wenda took off his short-sleeved shirt and shirt in frustration, leaving himself shirtless, but even so, he was still sweating profusely.

Sweat seeped into the wound, and the pain made his body tremble involuntarily.

He roughly estimated that the temperature was at least forty degrees Celsius.

As the temperature changed, the old man Ding, drawn with crayons on the paper, began to melt. Strands of wax twisted and slid down from the corners of his mouth and eyes, making him look sinister and terrifying.

When they felt they couldn't breathe properly, Zhang Wenda decided not to wait any longer. If they waited any longer, they were afraid they would really suffocate to death here!
