Chapter 4 Make Her Pay with Her Life
When Gu's mother saw her, she was stunned for a moment and immediately questioned, "Hey, you brat, what are you doing standing here?"

After saying that, she seemed to suddenly remember something, and after searching around without finding anything, she asked, "Where is your brother?"

Gu Jinhe was about to say something when she suddenly stopped, because a new task had appeared in her mind...

New mission: Please fulfill your mother's wish.

Time limit: 15 minutes
Reward: One substitute doll (can fake someone's death without anyone noticing; it will explode under high temperatures)

This is good stuff!

Gu Jinhe's eyes lit up; having it was like having multiple lives.

Seeing that she didn't answer for a long time, Gu's mother panicked. She took three steps forward and pinched her arm, saying, "I'm asking you a question. Are you mute?"

Gu's mother had a strong grip, and Gu Jinhe felt a piercing pain in her left arm, causing her to tighten her grip on the knife.

She lowered her head, her gaze gloomy.

I really want to send her down to be with Gu Ping!
But thinking of the system mission, she restrained the urge to kill her and covered the knife with her sleeve.

When she looked up again, she answered timidly as always, "Mother, I just came out to fetch some water. As for my brother, he's waiting inside!"

As she spoke, she raised her hand and pointed to the thatched hut.

Hearing this, Gu's mother felt relieved. Recalling her own actions just now, she opened her mouth, wanting to comfort her, but couldn't bring herself to say anything.

She shoved the clothes into Gu Jinhe's hands and said irritably, "These are the clean clothes you wanted. Go change now!"

Gu Jinhe touched the moldy clothes in her hands, and a cold smile involuntarily crept onto her lips.

Then, as if casually asking, "Mother, you've toiled for this family your whole life, do you have any wishes?"

Mother Gu rolled her eyes at her, as if she could have any wish granted, but still replied, "I just hope that your brother can join the immortal sect and bring glory to our ancestors."

Upon hearing this, Gu Jinhe felt a pang of regret.

Unfortunately, Gu Ping is already dead, and Gu's mother's wish is destined to remain unfulfilled.

Gu Jinhe subconsciously glanced at the system task, already mentally prepared for the task to fail, but found that the task interface had not changed at all.

What's going on? It's not considered a failure?
After thinking for a moment, she asked her mother, "Mother, don't you want our family to be together forever?"

[Host detected tricking the task target into specifying a wish; one warning issued]

Gu Jinhe immediately shut up.

Mother Gu rolled her eyes at her, thinking this was just another excuse for not wanting to go to the immortals, and her face immediately turned cold.

She bluntly stated, "No matter what you say, it's useless. When I first became pregnant with you, if it weren't for Granny Wang in the village saying you would be a boy, you wouldn't have had the chance to be born."

She paused for a moment, her expression complicated, and said, “Little sister, your brother is the only male in the family. Without him, the bloodline of our Gu family would be cut off. Since he wants to enter the immortal sect, you should help him.”

Hearing these familiar yet unfamiliar words, Gu Jinhe frowned, recalling her past life where her family had drained her of her lifeblood, and a sudden sense of irritation rose in her heart.

She took a deep breath, temporarily suppressing her agitation, and said, "Mother, don't worry, I will definitely help my brother fulfill his wish."

She wasn't lying!
Mother Gu snorted and said, "That's more like it." She then walked towards the thatched hut and muttered to herself, "I don't know what your brother is doing, letting you come out alone like that."

Gu Jinhe followed behind her with a knife, without uttering a word.

With a creak, Gu's mother pushed open the door, and a strong smell of blood mixed with the musty smell of the thatched hut hit her.

She nearly vomited and quickly covered her mouth and nose. Then she looked around the room but didn't see Gu Ping. She looked at Gu Jinhe with disgust and asked, "Where is your brother?"

Gu Jinhe leaned against the door, her tone casual: "Mother, do you really want to see him that much?"

Seeing her demeanor, which was completely different from her usual timid and submissive manner, Gu's mother felt a surge of unease.

Then, as if to suppress this feeling, she slightly raised her chin and raised her voice a little, saying, "Of course."

Thinking about how she had just fulfilled Gu Ping's wish, Gu Jinhe was in a good mood. She had finally found the same opportunity as before.

So she walked to a pile of thatch, squatted down, and as she lifted the thatch, she looked up at Gu's mother and smiled, "Mother, my brother is here. Come and see him!" Gu's mother watched Gu Jinhe's movements closely, and as soon as she lifted the thatch, she recognized him by the corner of his clothes.

She nearly collapsed to the ground, her eyes filled with disbelief, her vision gradually blurring.

Until Gu Jinhe completely uncovered the pile of thatch, she couldn't believe that the person lying on the ground was her son.

"Ping...Ping'er!"

Sobbing uncontrollably, Gu's mother stumbled toward Gu Ping, knelt down, and patted his pale face; blood was still flowing from his neck...

"Oh dear, my son... which heartless bastard did this to you!"

Gu's mother held Gu Ping's upper body, crying and screaming incessantly, her cries were heart-wrenching.

Gu Jinhe stood aside and watched, unmoved.

She spared a bit of attention to check the system tasks, only to find that the tasks were still not progressing, which made her scratch her head in frustration.

Gu's mother wanted to see Gu Ping, and she let her see him. Doesn't that count as completing her mission?
The system did not offer any explanation for Gu Jinhe's doubts, but fortunately, she didn't have high hopes for this human-machine system.

Gu's mother hugged Gu Ping and cried for a while before she remembered that the only person with Gu Ping just now was Gu Jinhe.

She turned to look at Gu Jinhe, her eyes filled with hatred. After standing up, she questioned in a shrill voice, "Gu Yaomei, who killed your brother? Why aren't you dead... why wasn't it you who died!"

As she spoke, she raised her hands, intending to strangle Gu Jinhe: her Ping'er was dead, and she was going to send this wretched girl down to join him...

At that moment, Gu's mother never imagined that the one who killed Gu Ping was none other than her daughter, whom she considered weak and easily bullied.

Gu Jinhe's eyes darkened, and as she dodged, she didn't forget to kick her.

Seeing her fall to the ground, Gu Jinhe said in an almost indifferent tone, "I killed your son. If you have anything to say, go down and talk to him!"

She had allowed Gu's mother to live for so long in order to complete this task, but now there was no progress at all.

She needs to leave the Gu family as soon as possible...

Gu Jinhe's expression turned cold; she couldn't wait any longer!
Before she could make a move, Gu's mother, enduring the pain in her abdomen, got up, picked up the only chair in the room, and charged at her with it held high.

"Gu Yaomei, you little beast, today I will make you pay for my son's life!"

But just one step away from Gu Jinhe, she stopped...

"Ah-"

As the sound of a knife piercing flesh rang out, Gu's mother lowered her head in disbelief.

A knife was stuck in her heart...

Seeing that she was still alive, Gu Jinhe tightened his grip on the knife hilt.

The next second, the chair that had been held high fell to the ground with a loud bang, and Gu's mother fell backward, landing next to Gu Ping.

There is no hope left!

Gu Jinhe squatted down, glanced at her mother's body, and only after confirming that she was truly dead did she remove the knife from her mother's body.

She then glanced at the thatched hut and, just in case, covered the two bodies with a large pile of thatch.

After doing all this, she planned to leave quickly before Gu's father returned with his men.

But just as she got up, the system's voice sounded in her mind again.

[Host detected to have completed the task: "Mother's Wish"]

The substitute puppet has been issued, merit points +10.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy Dragon Boat Festival!
