Chapter 11 The Sin of Wrath
Chapter 11 The Sin of Wrath
Shortly after, downstairs at the apartment building.
A team of plainclothes narcotics officers filed in and quickly went up the stairs to Norman's door.
The lead policeman knocked on the door: "Open the door! It's Machi!"
Inside the room, Norman, who was eating, felt a chill run down his spine, and his face turned deathly pale.
Damn it, Stan's people are coming to our door.
Don't panic, don't panic. They have no evidence, it's just hearsay, they won't do anything to me.
And right across the street.
Matilda was holding a packet of ketchup and squeezing it onto a bowl of pasta, the red sauce forming a bright smiley face.
()
"Little brother, look, isn't it pretty?"
"cute."
The little brother, who was only four years old, gave his sister a silly, innocent smile, which made Matilda grab his fluffy head and rub it.
At that moment, Luca also came out carrying a bowl of noodles. When Matilda saw his bowl of bright red chili sauce, she couldn't help but frown.
Luca said with a smile, "The chili sauce is much better than the tomato sauce, would you like some?"
"No, it's too spicy."
Matilda quickly shook her head, still vivid in her mind the experience of almost crying from the spiciness of Sichuan food last time.
She's been spending even more time at Luca's house these past few days. Ever since Norman beat her again, she's been constantly thinking about escaping that awful family, and Luca's house across the street has become her temporary haven.
Just as the group was preparing to enjoy dinner, a sudden gunshot shattered the pleasant atmosphere.
Matilda paused, then turned to look at the gate.
Luca was also slightly surprised; they arrived quite quickly.
He immediately put down his fork, got up, and pulled a pistol from under the coffee table.
Matilda wasn't surprised to see guns in Luca's house; there were plenty of gun owners in America, and besides, she knew Luca's identity wasn't simple.
“Luca.” Matilda followed cautiously.
"Shh!" Luca held up a finger. "Take your brother into the room, and you two hide."
Matilda nodded nervously and quickly led her younger brother into the inner bedroom.
Luca arrived at the door and looked through the peephole at the opposite side.
An armed policeman stood guard at the door, while gunshots rang out one after another from inside—shotguns, submachine guns, pistols—like firecrackers going off.
Luca observed for a while, but due to limited visibility, he was unclear about the situation inside, and didn't know if Stan was there or not.
Just then, a blood-covered figure ran out from the opposite door—it was Norman. However, as soon as he rushed out the door, a policeman who had been waiting outside pulled the trigger, shooting him in the chest.
The body fell heavily onto the corridor floor.
Then a policeman came out, dragged Norman's body inside, and told his partner to quickly find the drugs Norman had hidden away.
Shortly after, the group that found the drugs quickly left the scene.
Luca counted the number of people but didn't see Stan, which made him feel a little disappointed.
It seems that his act of hoarding the goods has alerted Stan.
It's such a shame that that jerk didn't come.
This also made Luca temporarily abandon the idea of taking action.
Matilda and her brother were at home, and a fight could cause some unnecessary accidents, so for their safety, it was best to avoid it.
Matilda cannot afford any mistakes!
Once everyone had left, Luca opened the door and walked into the crime scene across the street.
The place was a complete mess. The police had wantonly destroyed everything while searching for drugs, turning it into a garbage dump that had been swept away by a typhoon.
Luca found Norman's body inside, but did not see Matilda's mother and sister.
Oh? The butterfly effect? Matilda and her mother escaped unharmed?
"Luca, are you in there?"
Just then, Matilda's voice came from the doorway. She walked through the ruins and into the living room.
Upon seeing the body on the ground, Matilda's face turned pale, and she instinctively grabbed Luca's arm beside her.
She seemed to have not expected such an ending. For a moment, she didn't know what to say. She just stared blankly at her father's body on the ground, refusing to let go of Luca's hand.
Luca could sense her unease from her trembling fingers.
No matter how much she resented her father, she was still just a child who had never experienced the death of a loved one.
After returning to the room.
Matilda sat quietly at the table like a statue, lost in thought. Only when her brother ran up to her would she manage a numb smile.
Looking at her brother's innocent smiling face, Matilda suddenly felt very fortunate that she had accepted Luca's dinner invitation that evening and brought her brother to Luca's house, thus escaping this predicament.
Otherwise, he and his brother would also become corpses on the ground.
A glass of milk was handed to Matilda, and she looked up to see Luca's kind face.
"It's a great pity that your father has passed away."
“Even if they don’t kill him, one day I will do it myself.”
Matilda's eyes were red, and although there was still a trace of panic in her gaze, there wasn't much sadness.
She took the hot milk and whispered, "I just haven't figured out how to face this yet. My father is dead, and this family can't go on like this anymore."
"And your mother too."
“She’s not my mother.” Matilda shook her head, her tone filled with deep helplessness and pain. “And Isa, she’s not my biological sister either, just my half-sister. All she does every day is do aerobics, but she still has a terrible figure. She’s like a big sow wiggling her butt, attracting only some annoying flies.”
It was truly a huge uproar. Luca listened to her complaints and rants, and couldn't help but sigh. Living in such a terrible family was truly a headache. "In that family, the only one who liked me was my younger brother."
Matilda hugged her younger brother, burying his little head in her arms. "He's the only one who won't scold me, won't hit me, and will give me a hug when I'm unhappy. Compared to that old sow, I'm more like his mother."
Finally, she couldn't hold back a tear, a tear filled with sorrow and desolation. "Luca, I hate that family. I've really had enough of this."
"this is not your fault."
Luca looked at the untouched bowl of pasta on the table. "Matilda, you've done a fantastic job. You're stronger than any other child I've ever met. Life has given you so much pain, yet you can still face it all with a smile."
Matilda also looked at the bowl of pasta with smiley faces painted on it. Her clueless younger brother, who was unaware of what was going on, thought his sister wanted to eat it and pushed the bowl in front of her. "Don't cry, sister. I'll give you my pasta."
Tears flowed even more freely, but Matilda smiled. She cried and laughed, laughed and cried, hugging her younger brother tightly and loudly venting her suppressed emotions.
Luca said softly, "Matilda, those murderers will pay with their lives."
Matilda looked at him with teary eyes.
Luca: "I will kill those murderers, that's my promise."
Shortly afterward, the police arrived at the scene and cordoned it off.
It wasn't Luca or Lyon who called the police, but rather the other neighbors on the same floor.
The police went door-to-door to question and investigate the neighbors.
At the same time, Matilda's mother and sister also returned.
One of them had a job that night, and the other was at university, so she luckily escaped this ordeal.
Upon learning of Norman's death, the mother and daughter were not overly saddened, but rather terrified, unable to understand who had killed Norman and fearing they might be implicated.
The police took them under their protection, along with Matilda and her brother, and brought them to the police station for questioning.
Before being taken away by the police, Matilda found Luca and asked, "Luca, can I come back to see you again?"
"Of course, you haven't finished your pasta yet."
"Wait for me, Luca, you must wait for me."
Matilda gave Luca a very solemn hug, pressing her head against his stomach for a long time before reluctantly turning around and following the police away.
After they left, a handsome policeman nearby asked Luca curiously, "What is your relationship to the deceased? A relative?"
Luca: "Neighbor, I had a good relationship with the deceased's daughter; I always treated her like a younger sister."
After hearing Luca's words, the handsome policeman did not doubt them. Perhaps it was because Luca and Matilda had been very close just now, or perhaps it was some kind of subtle psychological reaction, but he naturally believed Luca's words.
The police officer remarked, "She was really lucky. The crime happened in your house, which saved her from this ordeal. Otherwise, the murderer might have killed her as well."
After saying that, he muttered to himself, "New York is really chaotic. I just got transferred here and I've already encountered this kind of case."
At that moment, an older Black police officer walked out of the crime scene and said to the younger officer, "Mills, let's go."
As the old policeman passed by Luca, he gave Luca a meaningful look, but didn't say anything more.
Staring at the two figures as they walked away, Luca couldn't help but shake his head and chuckle.

William Somerset was a veteran NYPD officer. Luca had lived in New York for many years and had met William many times. William also knew what kind of person Luca was.
But this is the first time Luca has met David Mills.
Luca watched the young policeman's retreating figure and couldn't help but rub his temples. "Was this guy transferred to New York?"
This was not a good sign. After David Mills was transferred to New York, a series of horrific religious murders occurred in the city.
The Catholic Church's seven deadly sins are wrath, greed, lust, sloth, pride, envy, and gluttony. The murderer used these seven deadly sins as logic to commit a series of murders, packaging them as cautionary performance art, and ultimately sacrificing his own life to complete this "great art."
That's quite perverse.
David, an impulsive and eager-to-make-a-merit young policeman, was completely outmaneuvered by the murderer and ultimately paid a terrible price.
His wife was beheaded by the murderer, which completely shattered his mental defenses. He became consumed by rage and original sin, and was tormented to the point of wishing he were dead.
In some ways, David was worse off than Matilda.
But now, David has run into Luca, who loves to meddle.
Luca is good at nothing but ruining those plot points that make viewers scream "Oh my god!"

Patch notes: All current movies are set in New York City. The city setting is not drastically altered, but the timeline will be altered. Treat it as a parallel American variety show/film world.
For those familiar with the history of the Mafia, or with American history since the 60s, please be lenient, as the timeline of events has been altered and many characters are fictional.
