"Wake you up?"
Jiang Guier pretended to be calm, picked up the blue crackled teacup, and took a sip of the tea. A light astringent taste accompanied by a sweet aroma quickly spread in her mouth.
Shen Huaizhou shifted his body, the creaking of the rattan chair suddenly changed, and his eyelashes trembled rapidly.
"Hmm, Miss Jiang, is there a problem that you need me to explain?"
Shen Huaizhou's voice was thick with nasal tone. He moved his neck, straightened his collar which had loosened slightly from falling asleep, and pressed his left hand firmly on the armrest of the rattan chair, quickly dispelling the lingering drowsiness and becoming much more awake.
Jiang Guier raised an eyebrow. What a ruthless person.
I only slept for a short while, but I managed to force myself to stay awake and be ready to get to work immediately.
Don't mess with ruthless people.
"Feel sorry."
Jiang Guier lowered her head and took a sip of tea. "I should have let you rest a little longer, but I suddenly wanted to ask you why the letter couldn't be preserved, and why even the original handwriting disappeared?"
Her slender fingers pointed to the camera screen, her specially done moonlight cat-eye manicure shimmering with a rounded halo.
"I'm sorry for the damage caused by the medicine."
"The effect of this potion is different from what I expected."
Jiang Guier said frankly, "I thought the letter wouldn't be retrievable, but I didn't expect..."
The doubt in her eyes surged like a tide, impossible to dissipate.
Because she was a little angry, there were still tiny droplets of water clinging to her eyelashes, making her eyes look wet as they fell.
Shen Huaizhou raised his hand to rub his temples, his fingertips wiping the corner of his eye, his tightly furrowed brows relaxing. "To be honest, Miss Jiang still doesn't trust me. I know that many unpleasant things happened the day we met a few days ago, but—"
He raised his voice slightly and said seriously, "I won't joke about my profession."
Jiang Guier stared at him, her suspicion undiminished. "The content can be forged."
"You watched the video..."
"The video only shows what you did, but much of the original content of the letter is blurry, so I can't be sure if your identification was accurate," Jiang Guier interrupted Shen Huaizhou. A sharp rebuttal ensued.
“Miss Jiang, the most basic rule is not to use someone you doubt,” Shen Huaizhou emphasized again.
"What you're presenting now doesn't convince me."
Silence spread between the two.
Even their shadows intertwined around the tea table, as if they were fighting. The letter written by Shen Huaizhou himself, placed on the restoration table, trembled gently with the breeze from the air conditioner, as if it were shaking for this confrontation, or perhaps it was eager to prove its existence.
The video had reached its end, and the screen froze on the moment Shen Huaizhou reached out and cut off the recording. He looked very tired in the video, but not as serious as he did now.
"Bang." The studio door was pushed open.
"Qian Xin told me you arrived a while ago. How did it go? Why did you have to come so early in the morning? Did the letter repair fail?" Lin Wan's voice came from the doorway, abruptly breaking the tense silence between the two.
"What's going on here?"
Before she even reached the tea table, Lin Wan noticed the strange silence between the two. Her gaze swept between them before suddenly settling on Jiang Guier's attire.
The loose, light blue shirt was men's clothing, and one of the buttons on Shen Huaizhou's Chinese-style stand-up collar shirt was slightly undone, making it hard not to speculate about what was going on.
Her eyebrows twitched, and she forcefully suppressed the corners of her mouth that were about to turn up. "What's wrong? Someone tell me."
Shen Huaizhou's Adam's apple bobbed slightly, and he was about to speak when Jiang Guier beat him to it, placing her camera on the tea table. "Wanwan, you've come at the right time. The contents of the letter are out."
"That's a good thing! You can go to the hospital to read the letter to your great-grandmother, which will fulfill her wish."
Lin Wan clasped her hands together in prayer, then squinted her eyes instantly. Her high heels clicked loudly as she approached the floor. "Wait a minute, if it worked, what's going on here?" Jiang Guier got up and walked to the repair table, picked up the writings Shen Huaizhou had made, and slammed the paper heavily into Lin Wan's hand. "Take a look," she said, her voice tinged with helplessness.
"Let me take a look." Lin Wan looked down and saw Shen Huaizhou's handwriting. She teased, "Huaizhou, your handwriting is getting better and better. You can definitely make money by making videos and posting them on Xiaohongshu."
Shen Huaizhou remained silent, but his furrowed brows clearly indicated his disapproval.
"Seeing this letter is like seeing the person in person..."
After reading it, Lin Wan was a little confused. Her eyes met Jiang Guier's, and Jiang Guier immediately said, "Right? You feel the same way as me, right? Isn't it ridiculous!"
She was desperately searching for allies.
"It's outrageous, but it's the truth."
As soon as Lin Wan finished speaking, she noticed Shen Huaizhou's bright gaze as he looked at her, and she immediately understood why the two of them had been arguing.
This problem is difficult to solve...
"Wanwan!" Jiang Guier pouted, "Whose side are you on anyway?"
"The problem between the two of you is quite difficult to resolve." Lin Wan looked at the two of them, who were becoming increasingly hostile, yet also seemed to be looking for allies to support them. They were caught in a dilemma, and she regretted coming here so easily.
"I know what to do."
Lin Wan suddenly clapped his hands, and the two people who were locked in a stalemate looked at him.
"Guibao, do you think the contents of this letter are not enough to make your great-grandmother keep it for decades and still remember it so fondly?"
"Yes."
"So you have questions about this."
“Yes.” Jiang Guier nodded frantically; her best friend understood her best.
"Huaizhou, you presented the facts, but your client didn't accept them and started to doubt you. Isn't that right?"
“I think there’s been some misunderstanding between us. But I also hope that Miss Jiang won’t question my professional competence and qualities.” Shen Huaizhou spoke slowly, but with a firm and resolute voice.
Lin Wan nodded knowingly. "You two are such a classic case of being at odds. To put it bluntly, it's like a young couple having a fight. One of you is focused on the emotions, while the other is focused on the way to handle it, right?"
"Probably." Jiang Guier nodded hesitantly, feeling somewhat embarrassed by the analogy.
Shen Huaizhou didn't speak, but gestured for Lin Wan to continue.
“I told you that you don’t need to worry about this now. You two can’t explain this issue clearly or sort out the logic accurately because you have already fundamentally disagreed and it will be difficult to reach an agreement. Any further explanation will be in vain.”
Lin Wan held up the paper, which made a rustling sound. "Besides, this letter contains some very heartwarming recipes, so why not go and ask about them?"
"what?"
"Go ask anyone who knows your great-grandmother makes braised pork, is there some story behind it?"
Jiang Guier's eyes trembled.
She stood up. "Mr. Shen, you've worked hard."
"Miss Jiang, please don't hesitate to ask if you need any help."
Jiang Guier's silent back was the only response she received from Shen Huaizhou.
As Lin Wan was being pulled by the wrist and led out, she turned back and raised an eyebrow at him with a smile.
