Chapter 27 Riverwood
Chapter 27 Riverwood
The Giant Sleeping Hotel
"Hey~ Have you heard? Earl Hylan has issued a notice to establish the Northern Guard and is currently recruiting soldiers."
"I heard, I heard. My cousin works as a groom in the military camp in Whiterun City."
That big battle a week ago, wow, it was truly breathtaking!
The young man, carrying a hunting bow on his back and holding a wooden wine cup in his hand, stood with one foot on a stool and began to speak animatedly.
"According to my cousin, that battle was incredibly brutal, and Whiterun was almost captured. My cousin looked down while helping the defenders move defensive supplies, and guess what?"
As evening approached, the tavern was bustling with people, and almost everyone in the tavern was looking over. Several impatient ones had already started urging them on.
"How did it go? Tell me quickly."
"Hey, Vance, you son of a bitch, what are you doing standing here?"
However, Vance did not continue speaking despite the crowd's angry rebukes. Instead, he finished the wine in his glass and smacked his lips in smack of relish.
"Damn it, Maki! Maki! Give this son of a bitch a drink, it's on me."
Vance took the wine from Maggie, took a large gulp with pleasure, and then, not forgetting to thank the shop owner, Lockkins, he slowly continued his story amidst the angry shouts of the crowd:
"After my cousin put his things down, he looked through the hole in the city wall and was so scared that he almost peed his pants."
"Oh my god! My cousin said there are so many ghouls outside the city that you can't see any end to them, at least a hundred thousand. Wow, his legs went weak! Those ghouls are absolutely terrifying; arrows didn't even affect them."
"Bullshit! Your cousin's legs went weak. How come he saw no reaction when the sword hit the ghoul? Besides, 100,000? There are only a few thousand people in Riverwood. You really dare to say 100,000!"
Upon hearing someone question him, Vance's face instantly turned red, and he turned to see which son of a bitch it was.
"Abby! You don't know anything. You're a piece of trash who can't even beat a wolf. What do you know? My cousin is a stable boy in the Whiterun army camp. He was on the city wall back then."
Upon hearing Vance's insults, the young man, dressed in a khaki-colored short robe, threw down his wine glass and prepared to confront him.
However, the eager listeners obviously couldn't let the two of them lose their pleasant evening because of a fight, and Abby angrily sat down under the pull of the shop owner and others.
Haven, dressed in tattered leather armor, sat in a corner of the tavern. After several days of travel, he had finally arrived at the town his teacher had mentioned, one of the few towns in the North closest to Fort Province.
Riverwood is famous for its convenient waterways and abundant timber, attracting many merchants and professionals. At the same time, the Hogar Mountains, not far from Riverwood, are rich in magical beasts and potions, making the town's economy exceptionally prosperous.
The biting sandstorms of the North had turned Haven's fair skin gray and dusty over the past few days, and coupled with his equally shabby leather armor, even the most familiar people couldn't recognize that this young man was the heir to the Northern Territory of Hailan.
Haven ate the stew with gusto, occasionally dipping bread into the broth and putting it in his mouth. He smiled as he watched Vance begin his storytelling again. This guy actually has a talent for storytelling.
"Alright, alright, let me continue."
Let me tell you, later, my cousin came down from the city wall and was just about to have a drink to calm down when he heard the knights on the city wall exclaiming in surprise.
He looked up and saw a dragon flying towards him. The dragon smashed into a tower on the city wall, knocking it down. Many knights and soldiers fell from the wall. If he hadn't dodged quickly, he would have been hit by flying debris.
When he got excited, Vance stood on the table and gestured wildly.
"Let me tell you, my cousin said that dragon is a full 100 meters long." As he spoke, he held his hand flat and swung it back and forth to show that it really was very long.
"Tch~ You think a hundred meters is a hundred meters? The bards who came to the tavern all said that dragons are at most a few dozen meters long, how could there be such a big dragon?"
Vance turned his head and saw that Abby was undermining him again. He instantly became furious and pointed at Abby, yelling angrily.
"That's something my cousin saw with his own eyes, not some story made up by those freeloading bards. You rascal, if you keep causing trouble, I'll knock your teeth out."
Seeing that Vance was truly angry, Abby immediately shrank back, feeling a burning sensation amidst the laughter of the crowd. Still somewhat resentful, she whispered again:
"What's with the attitude? That's your cousin, not you. What's so great about him?"
Vance, who had originally planned to continue telling stories and have a few more drinks, saw the guy muttering something again and immediately shouted, "What are you doing?"
"You damned bastard, what are you saying now? What are you saying?"
Abby watched as Vance jumped off the table and walked over, and hurriedly tried to run away. However, those who wanted to watch the show didn't want to miss out on the fun and egged her on:
“Hey! Vance, he said you’re bragging. Your cousin is a groom in the Whiterun army camp, not you.”
After downing several drinks, Vance was already somewhat out of it. Hearing what the others said, he was instantly enraged and threw his glass directly at Abby.
In her haste to escape, Abby didn't notice the commotion behind her. The glass smashed directly on the back of Abby's head, and she screamed and collapsed to the ground.
Staggering, Vance staggered over and straddled Abby, ready to pounce on her. However, Abby, whose scalp was broken, touched the blood on the back of her head, which aroused her fighting spirit. She flipped over and overturned the drunk Vance.
The two started punching each other in the hotel's open space, and the onlookers instantly forgot about the previous story and began shouting around them.
"Oh! Damn it, Vance's throwing a punch! Hit him, hit him! If you beat him, I'll buy you all your drinks this week!"
"Little Abby, hit him, hit him, let him know how powerful you are. If you knock Vance down, Gina might not go on a date with you."
Sitting in a small corner, Haven finally finished off five loaves of bread, a large bowl of stew, and a large bowl of cream of mushroom soup. Watching the two fighting, he patted his belly with satisfaction, feeling truly content after a full meal.
A moment later, the guards came in and separated the two, twisting their arms and leading them out of the inn. The innkeeper then gave the guards a few more bottles of wine and told the staff to clean up the tables and chairs that the two had messed up during their fight. Seeing that there was no more excitement to watch, everyone returned to their seats and continued their previous chatter.
After pausing for a moment, Haven stood up and walked toward the innkeeper.
"Damn it, kid, once those two guys are sober tomorrow, we're going to get their compensation back. Damn it, they won't give us a moment's peace."
Seeing Haven approaching, he waved his hand to signal the waiter to get back to work. Old Sog had a good impression of this generous and voracious young man.
"Oh, my esteemed guest, are you satisfied with the taste? Is there anything else you require?"
Haven let out a burp and smiled at the innkeeper.
"The food is delicious! Boss, do you have a shower here? I think I need a hot shower now."
The innkeeper, old Sog, looked Havent up and down, then gave him a mature smile.
"Of course, my esteemed guest, and we also have skilled female technicians who can serve you."
