Chapter 52 A Hasty Escape
Chapter 52 A Hasty Escape (Please Read On)
Seeing Ander disrupt the masked men's defenses, Havent, who was following behind, quickly swung his longsword, and two masked men clutched their necks and fell to the ground.
In an instant, a gaping hole was torn in the masked crowd besieging Havent. Seeing Ander still wildly waving his spear, Havent kicked the masked man hanging on the spear off and dragged Ander into the depths of the jungle.
"Stop chasing them, deal with that boy first."
Upon hearing their leader's words, several masked men who had rushed over glared at the two men who had fled into the jungle, then picked up their weapons and returned to the encirclement.
Inside the encirclement, Dolph, wielding a two-handed sword, shielded the little boy and the old butler behind him. Under the onslaught of the masked men, he had already sustained multiple wounds.
The little boy, who was being held tightly by the old butler, was now in tears, trembling with fear.
“Mr. Simona, I will try to create an opening later. You can take the opportunity to escape to the depths of the forest with young master Lori. May the Goddess of Dawn protect you!”
The old butler nodded to Dolph.
"Captain Dolph, Valhalla will guide you on your way home."
Dolph nodded subtly, looked at the masked leader, raised his two-handed sword and charged forward, facing the mercenary captain's desperate struggle.
Several masked men with shields took turns defending, after all, no one wanted to be used as a scapegoat by this mercenary captain whose strength was close to that of a mid-level mercenary at the last moment.
Dolph quickly glanced at the scene and saw that as he attacked with all his might, the masked man was slowly being pushed away. A resolute look appeared in his eyes.
With a loud shout, he swung his sword at the group of people in front of him with all his might, forcing the masked man with the shield back. Then, he took out a few paper balls from his pocket and threw them at the masked man standing at the edge of the forest.
Several explosions rang out, leaving the masked men guarding the edge of the jungle dazed and confused. Dolph then pulled out a large alchemical bomb and charged towards the leader of the men in black.
"Run! Run with Lori!"
The old butler, who was prepared, picked up Lori and started running wildly into the depths of the jungle.
"Kill him! Kill him!!!"
Seeing Dolph charging towards him, the masked leader screamed in alarm. He remained unmoved even as his men's weapons struck him, and in a panic, he shielded one of his men in front of him.
With a loud crash, Dolph's mangled body flew backward, landing on the ground like a tattered sack.
'The sky is so blue, Lina~'
Lying on the ground, barely clinging to life, Dolph looked up at the clear blue sky and remembered the girl who was like a jasmine flower. He turned to look at Lori and the old butler, who had already disappeared, and a relieved smile appeared on his face.
'Lina, may your child be safe. This coward can finally apologize to you in person.'
The masked leader, covered in bits of flesh, approached and looked at Daofu, who was emitting a strange smile, and said hatefully:
"Damn it, cut his head off!"
Seeing his men cut off Dolph's head, the masked leader, still not satisfied, kicked Dolph's corpse several more times. He then surveyed the chaotic road and said...
"You three, clean up this place. The rest of you, come with me into the jungle. We need to find them alive or dead."
On the other side, Haven, who had been running with Ander for several hundred meters, could not hear the sound of pursuers behind him, so he stopped in front of a crooked tree, put Ander on the trunk, climbed up the tree in a few quick movements, and seeing that there were no pursuers behind him, slid down the tree and walked to Ander's side.
"Hey buddy, are you alright?" Haven reached out and slapped Ander hard across the face. Ander's skin had turned blue from blood loss, and several of his wounds had stopped bleeding.
Feeling the slap on his face, Ander struggled to open his eyes and gave Havent a very forced smile.
"Will, you didn't need to pull me out. Those arrows already pierced my lungs. Their weapons were very professional; the arrows pierced armor and caused bleeding. They must be from the army too."
Haven didn't listen to what Ander was saying. He lay on Ander's chest, looking at the arrowhead that had pierced through his body. He looked up at Ander, who was staring blankly at him, and held the medicine with a troubled expression. He was now regretting that he should have learned more first aid techniques from his teacher.
"Will, actually I'm a deserter. The captain and the others are all dead, only I survived. Now I'm finally going to die too. They've come to get me, they've come to get me~~~"
Watching Ander mutter to himself, his eyes slowly losing their light, Haven felt terrible. Why were there so many senseless killings?
After a while, Haven stood up, picked up Ander's spear, dug a hole in front of the crooked tree, and barely buried Ander's burly body. He then carved an epitaph on the crooked tree trunk: "A brave soldier of the North—Ander."
Just after Haven finished burying the body, he heard a soft rustling sound behind him. Turning around, he saw two masked men emerge. Seeing that they weren't the person he was supposed to be tracking, he cursed under his breath.
"Damn it, it's not that child, what do we do?"
Another one sized up Haven.
"Kill him. This guy just killed several of our brothers. Let's bring his head back to the boss; he'll be very happy."
Hearing the two discussing how to kill him right in front of him, Haven's eyes narrowed, and a murderous intent emanated from him.
"I'm furious right now!!! You've got a path to heaven but you're refusing to take it, so you're heading straight for hell!"
With a 'whoosh' sound of the blade being drawn, the enraged Havent did not choose his usual swift swordsmanship, but instead opted to confront the enemy head-on with his longsword.
With a clanging sound of metal, the two masked men, who had not yet reached the lower level, were defeated by Havent's fierce attack and lay on the ground clutching their necks.
Looking at the two corpses lying on the ground, Haven's irritation subsided. He turned around, glanced silently at Ander's little mound, picked up the spear and stuck it in the ground. He searched the masked mercenary's body, picked up his longsword, and walked into the depths of the jungle.
"Simoya, I'm scared~ I miss my mom~"
The old butler had been carrying Lori through the jungle for over twenty minutes. Although he felt like he was about to run out of breath, he didn't dare to stop for a moment.
Looking at Lori, who was silently crying in his arms, he gently comforted her:
"Don't be afraid, Master Lori, I will help you escape."
Whoosh~whoosh~whoosh~
Hearing the whistling of the arrow, the old butler quickly dodged to the side. However, the long journey had made Simona's movements less agile, and he was hit in the leg by an arrow and fell to the ground. The little boy that Simona was holding was thrown away.
"Old man, you're pretty fast. It took us brothers so much effort."
Simona gritted his teeth and got up from the ground. He quickly walked towards Lori, shielding the little boy behind him, and looked desperately at the men in black who were chasing after him.
