Chapter 23 Fury
Chapter 23 Fury (Part 1)
"Count the casualties!"
When he was pulled out of the bunker, the former outpost had been reduced to a burning ruin.
Lu Lin felt fortunate that the shell hadn't exploded in the underground bunker, otherwise they would all have been wiped out.
"Twenty-four were killed, seventeen were wounded, and an entire platoon from the Third Infantry Company was wiped out by the naval guns. The number of missing is still being tallied." Ahmed said gravely.
In the distance, the sound of howitzers exploding could be heard; Zion was using artillery to clear anti-tank positions.
The fact that the naval guns attacked the outpost meant that the Harisi base, which had several times the number of troops to the west, had fallen. The Nukoshir outpost had lost its flank cover and was now in danger of being attacked from both the front and the flank at any time.
Lu Lin cursed inwardly, "Why hasn't any news been sent over such important intelligence?"
Lu Lin didn't have time to scold his unreliable teammates. He made a decisive decision: "This outpost can't be held! Report our situation to headquarters, and everyone else retreat immediately."
He glanced at the map; the entire coastline was within range of the ship's guns. Neither Shuangzhi nor Masr had a fleet, so in the current situation, they had no choice but to head inland.
About 20 kilometers to the southwest, there is an oasis called Salem. Lu Lin immediately pointed to it and said, "Let's go this way!"
"I'll arrange the artillery evacuation, I'll be there shortly," Ahmed shouted. "Someone! Take the lieutenant colonel away first!"
An AMX-13 drove up. It's a light tank with a top speed of 60 kilometers per hour, similar to the M3 infantry fighting vehicle.
At this moment, Yehena slowly woke up, and Lu Lin stepped forward to ask her, "Is anything bothering you?"
Yehena touched her cheek, somewhat puzzled: "Everything else is fine. Why does my face hurt a little?"
Lu Lin coughed awkwardly.
There were only two people on the tank: the commander/gunner and the driver. The commander said, "This tank can seat three people. Lieutenant Colonel, please get on!"
Lu Lin got into the car, and Yehena followed him in. Knowing that the girl had a mission, he advised, "You should stay with the propaganda team; there are no seats left on this car."
"Wherever you go, I'll go!" Yehena squeezed in without saying a word, sharing a spot with him: "I just saved your life!"
Lu Lin was speechless for a moment. Fortunately, the AMX-13 was quite spacious, and the three men and one woman did not feel too crowded. Ahmed patted the side armor, signaling them to set off quickly.
When Lu Lin looked at the still-burning flames at the sentry post and the soldiers who were retreating, he felt a mix of emotions.
If he hadn't lost air superiority and territorial waters, he could have held out for much longer.
Perhaps this is a good opportunity to completely abandon the market?
Lu Lin thought that with his current record and his status as a prince, no one would dare to say anything to him even if he went back to the rear to have coffee.
Although the scheduled time was not reached, it was unheard of for an Arab army to be able to stop the attack of the Tinsuk armored forces with just a single outpost, and even destroy several enemy aircraft and tanks.
The AMX-13 started speeding away at full throttle. If you ignored its thin armor, this French-made light tank was practically made for off-road driving.
Lu Lin could still hear the sound of howitzers hitting the ground, which sounded a bit like 155mm caliber. He was a little confused. Hadn't the artillery regiment retreated?
Lu Lin switched to the eagle's perspective and found that no troop carriers or tanks were following behind.
His heart skipped a beat, and then a possibility occurred to him—could he be the only one retreating? Lu Lin hurriedly asked the train conductor, "Where are the others? Who gave you the order?!"
Commander: "It was Lieutenant Ahmed who gave the order; he told me to keep you safe."
"What about the other soldiers?"
“They will defend Nukoshir outpost to the death.” The tank commander felt that saying this might hurt the lieutenant colonel’s pride, so he added, “The lieutenant also said that this outpost is definitely not going to hold, but given enough time, you will definitely grow into a general who can resist Zion.”
The car was silent, with only the hum of the engine filling the void.
Lu Lin felt his head suddenly turn red and shouted, "No way!"
He couldn't abandon his soldiers and run away; although he was a time traveler, he was still a soldier.
He can make tactical retreats and shift the blame for defeats to others when necessary, but this is something he cannot do at any time or in any country; it is his bottom line.
He pulled out his gun, pressed it against the tank commander's head, and roared, "You want me to escape alone? My men are behind me!!"
The train commander remained defiant: "I cannot comply, sir!"
"Then you're dismissed right now! I'm the commander of this vehicle now!" Lu Lin was a bit confused with anger. He was a lieutenant colonel, and he felt all the blood rushing to his head. He ordered the driver:
"You heard me, now turn around!"
The war had begun, and Major Bandar commanded eight Sherman tanks divided into four groups, lying in ambush on the reverse slope of the sand dunes.
"Your objective is not to destroy the chieftain, but to target their tracks and observation equipment!" Major Bandar issued the order over the radio: "Each group fires only three times, then immediately move out! Remember, don't be stationary targets, get moving!"
"Understood! Focus on the tracks and observation/aiming equipment, then move away!" the Sherman driver's crew responded.
Major Bandar added, "Also, once locked on, the crew must destroy the artillery before abandoning the vehicle, so that it cannot be captured by Zion and then used to shoot our own people!"
He strode toward Ahmed. After Lu Lin left, he became the highest-ranking officer in the camp and naturally took over the command position: "Have the infantry companies form anti-tank teams and ambush in anti-tank ditches and sentry posts. We must be prepared to engage in close combat with the enemy."
Ahmed nodded, adding, "However, most of the infantry companies are greenhorns, so I have to lead them myself to keep their morale from crumbling."
Seeing that Major Bandar still looked hesitant, the veteran said indifferently, "Lieutenant Colonel Amir is a strong man. He will come to his senses in the future. In this battle, whether it is the quality of our troops or our weapons and equipment, we are far inferior to Zion."
Major Bandar: "I have no prejudice against the lieutenant colonel, nor am I afraid of sacrifice. He is completely different from other royal princes. If we are talking about who can have a positive impact on Shuangzhi's army in the future, I think the lieutenant colonel may be one of them."
Ahmed smiled: "I'm glad we were able to reach an agreement."
At that moment, the reconnaissance platoon reported: "Sixteen enemy tanks have been spotted on the main road! Two of them are Centurion tanks!"
Major Bandar laughed heartily, "It seems that your battle plan from the past two days has been quite effective! The artillery fire has already caused half of their tanks to break down!"
"Let our artillery keep firing! Bombard the heads of Zion's infantry!"
