Chapter 41 Military Procurement
Chapter 41 Military Procurement
After returning from the Sana'a region, Lu Lin had been thinking about how to improve the combat effectiveness of the troops.
Advanced weaponry alone is not enough; we also need to improve the fighting spirit and combat skills of rank-and-file soldiers.
However, the Aryans cannot compare to the Slavs, which involves not only geography but also historical factors.
The Russians were tortured to such an extent by the landlord class back then, but during the Great Patriotic War, not a single one of them backed down. In just a few years, they amassed nearly 35 million soldiers, fought to the death for two generations, and still managed to win the war.
But the Middle East certainly cannot do this, because nation-building is extremely fragile on this land. Having experienced multiple colonizations throughout history, the people have a very low sense of national and ethnic identity.
This further reinforced Lu Lin's desire to build an elite force, not through the United States or other countries, but by using his own experience to personally create a strong army and then imprinting them with new ideas.
Only with such a force could he have the confidence to confront Zion head-on once again.
Upon returning to the Kasher Manor, the butler Ibrahim handed Lu Lin a letter and respectfully said, "This was sent by the royal envoy this morning; it appears to be your letter of appointment."
Lu Lin was still a little confused. Hadn't he just been promoted to major general?
He broke the wax seal, then opened the parchment, on which was written:
Royal Decree No. XXXX
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious and Most Merciful.
According to the provisions of the Basic Law of the State
Based on the needs of the public interest.
Major General Amir bin Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Wartime Military District of the Northern Border Region, and is granted the following powers:
It has jurisdiction over all land and air garrison troops within its jurisdiction;
Defense duties shall be carried out in accordance with the policies of the Supreme National Defense Council;
Directly coordinate with the State Security Bureau to handle border affairs.
Issued on: 21st of March 1387 AH
Signed: Shams bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (His Majesty the King's personal signature)
Lu Lin was completely dumbfounded.
He actually became the commander-in-chief of the border region?
Although he originally knew he would be sent to the northern border region, he thought he would still be directly under one of his uncles, and at most be appointed as the brigade commander or division commander of an armored unit. But he suddenly became the tallest one.
This is what makes Arab countries so absurd: as long as you have noble blood, it's easy to reach a position that ordinary people can never achieve in their entire lives.
"They won't promote me to major general, they're just trying to get me into the position of border region commander, right?"
Lu Lin recalled that the commander of the Tabuk region was a major general, because before attending the award ceremony, he had heard that he was to be awarded the rank of brigadier general.
However, he was not happy to become the border region commander, because he, as a major general, might still be a commander without any troops.
Before the war, the total number of soldiers actually serving in Shuangzhi was only about 20,000, with 20 fighter planes (all old-fashioned propeller planes) and about 60 tanks. This was the national statistic.
He was unsure how much he would actually receive after the military and political reforms.
"Make a call to the Ministry of National Defense office," Lu Lin instructed.
It's estimated that besides His Majesty the King, only he would dare to be so arrogant.
After the call was answered, a voice came through asking questions. Lu Lin didn't waste any time and said directly, "I am Major General Amir, the commander of the Northern Border Region. Please transfer me to Prince Muhammad, the Minister of Defense, and tell him that I need to speak with him."
The other party dared not delay upon hearing this. After a few busy tones, a familiar yet slightly deep voice came through: "Hello?" Lu Lin: "This is Major General Amir."
The person on the other end of the phone seemed a little annoyed: "You should call me father."
"Let's skip calling you 'father,' I'm already being lenient by not calling you 'old man,'" Lu Lin decisively replied. "When we're working, let's use your official title, General."
“Very well then.” The ‘General’ paused. “It seems you have already received your commission from His Majesty the King.”
“I won’t ask about anything else,” Lu Lin said. “I only care about how much equipment I can get. This time I’ve been sent to the front line in the north, which is surrounded by enemy-occupied territory of Zion on three sides. If they’re still using old relics like the Sherman, I won’t agree to it.”
"Who told you to ask for so many weapons and equipment when you met His Majesty last time?" Muhammad said, sounding a bit annoyed. "His Majesty is now considering giving up on buying a large number of weapons and instead spending money to purchase a full suite of security services from the United States. Perhaps that would be more worry-free."
Lu Lin was shocked when he heard this. What's the difference between outsourcing national defense and handing over territory?
"The nation's territorial security must be firmly in our own hands," Lu Lin said firmly. "This is the only point that is not open to discussion!"
"You're thinking the same thing as me. Okay, I'll think of something."
Lu Lin recalled the junk he had used in Nukhoshir, all of which were old gadgets retired from the United States, and he quickly said:
"I want to choose the weapons for the new army myself. Those old men in the United States are ruthless!"
“Well then, this afternoon Lieutenant General Yusuf is scheduled to discuss the purchase of weapons with General Thomas of the United States. You can come over this afternoon.” Prince Muhammad said, “If there is anything you want, just have Lieutenant General Yusuf buy it for you as well.”
This is right.
Lu Lin's mood instantly brightened, and he immediately said, "Then it's settled. I'll definitely be there this afternoon!"
Sigrún has taught at the Iceland University of the Arts as a part-time lecturer since and was Dean of the Department of Fine Art from -. In – she held a research position at Reykjavík Art Museum focusing on the role of women in Icelandic art. She studied fine art at the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts and at Pratt Institute, New York, and holds BA and MA degrees in art history and philosophy from the University of Iceland. Sigrún lives and works in Iceland.
At 2:20 p.m., Lu Lin arrived at the Shuangzhi National Defense Administration office building in the city center by car. The security guards at the entrance saluted and said, "Please show your identification!"
Fahd said with some displeasure, "Look closely, the person sitting in the co-pilot's seat is a major general!"
"This is a new regulation from the Security Bureau, personally requested by General Muhammad," the soldier said expressionlessly.
Having no other option, Lu Lin had to take out his identification. Only after the soldiers confirmed that it was correct did they allow him to pass.
He then got out of the car and walked into the headquarters building. The confidential secretary of the Ministry of National Defense was already waiting for him on the first floor. "This way, Major General. Lieutenant General Youssef has already begun negotiating military procurement matters with the representatives sent by the United States."
Lu Lin frowned. Didn't he say he would wait for him?
Or is it that I'm late?
As they climbed the stairs to the conference room, they could hear someone speaking in Saxon from a distance: "I would like to proudly recommend to you the latest MGM-51 missile developed by our United States. It is the world's first tank-launched missile, a high-tech product that is even more advanced than Zion!"
It can be mounted on the M551 light tank, with an effective range of up to three kilometers! This far exceeds the two-kilometer firing range of the United Kingdom's Chieftain tank. Furthermore, this weapon is equipped with MCLOS (Manual Command Line of Sight), and our tests have shown it can penetrate the equivalent armor of a T-62!
Damn it, the "Oakstick" missile?
Lu Lin thought to himself, "Even dogs wouldn't use this thing. Precision guidance is a joke. Its accuracy in actual combat is low. Even the United States itself doesn't use it."
The worst part is that it has to be used in conjunction with the M551 "Sheridan". The latter's aluminum armor is designed to reduce weight and can be used for "tank airdrop", but in reality, its defense is basically no different from that of a paper-thin tank.
"No, we can't buy it!"
He kicked open the door, and immediately a dozen pairs of eyes in the room were fixed on him.
