Chapter 49 A Journey to the United States
Chapter 49 A Journey to the United States (Part 1)
At the Plaza Hotel, Lu Lin's room was right next to the presidential suite, offering an excellent view. Through the spotless window, he could see the bustling crowds of Central Park.
Only now did he realize how "outrageous" the royal family of Shuangzhi was; they not only rented an entire hotel building, but also replaced all the staff inside.
Muslims do not eat pork and have significantly different lifestyles from non-believers, so the royal family replaced all its servants, from attendants to cooks, with trained royal servants.
As for the former lobby manager and cleaning staff
It is said that apart from a small number who stayed behind to guard the house, the rest took a three-month paid leave, and the cost of this was undoubtedly paid by the royal family.
"That's... ridiculously extravagant."
Lu Lin lay on the two-meter-wide bed, feeling the wind blowing from the highest point in New York.
But it's just a superficial treatment, a truly superficial one.
A knock sounded at the door. Lu Lin was staring blankly at the ant-like pedestrians in Central Park when Fahd's voice came through the carved wooden door: "Major General, His Highness the Prince requests an audience."
As Lu Lin walked on the newly laid Persian carpet, he looked at the artworks hanging on the wall.
These days, a new art form called "Pop Art" is popular in the United States. It is created using simple letterpress printing, rubber or wood rubbings, and a single piece is said to fetch millions of dollars.
"Andy Warhol?"
Lu Lin vaguely recognized the name; it must be an authentic work.
Pushing open the door to the presidential suite, a thick cloud of cigar smoke wafted out. Several princes dressed in white robes were enjoying morning tea in the sunroom. If Lu Lin remembered correctly, these were his uncles.
"Come here." The prince's voice silenced the room instantly.
Lu Lin nodded in acknowledgment, his gaze sweeping over the crowd without making a sound.
The middle-aged handsome man, who looks even more like a prince than him, is Prince Suleiman; the man wearing gold-rimmed glasses is Oil Minister Abdul; and the rest of the familiar faces must be the original owner's uncles and aunts.
Please don't talk to me first!
He muttered to himself.
"Have all the children arrived?" Prince Muhammad asked.
The servant opened the side door, and several young princes filed in. Lu Lin recognized one of them at a glance; it was the same one he had met at the airport. When the prince saw him, he subconsciously took a half step back.
“I’ve discussed this with your uncles, and we think this is a good opportunity for you to broaden your horizons.” Prince Muhammad pulled out a black card: “Amir, you’re in charge of the accounts. Take your brothers out for a stroll and buy whatever they like.”
So you want me to take care of the kids?
Lu Lin took the black card and remembered that he still had a check given to him by old Muhammad in his pocket.
It seems they want him to fully embody the image of a nouveau riche.
"If you don't have enough money, just tell your uncle!"
Prince Abdul smiled kindly: "These good-for-nothing juniors are now in your care as their older brother. You must guide them."
You all should learn more from your older brother!
"We're doomed." The young man named Azhar turned pale instantly. He had been thinking of living a carefree life in the United States, but his father's words had directly handed him over to this "ruthless" cousin.
The other princes also looked rather grim; they had heard about their cousin's exploits before they arrived.
What about tearing tanks apart on the battlefield and then beating up royalty back home?
The thought of spending the next few months under Lu Lin's tyranny made the young men wish they could buy plane tickets and return home immediately.
Lu Lin saw right through their thoughts—these brats' eyes were full of fear and wariness, clearly they didn't consider him one of their own.
"Go have fun, your uncles and I have some things to discuss." Old Muhammad dismissed him.
The servants led the princes away, with Lu Lin walking at the front, while the others behind him deliberately kept their distance.
"So the old man's goal is for me to lead this group of guys to establish a persona of nouveau riche."
If a family's children can spend money like water, then that family is truly rolling in wealth.
The reason he put himself in charge of the money was to guide these princes so they would spend freely without appearing foolish or wasteful. It was a tacit understanding between intelligent people.
The impression Shuangzhi has left on other countries over the past two decades is nothing more than the stereotypical image of other Middle Eastern countries: backward, feudal, and ignorant.
But with the international situation changing rapidly, Zion's close cooperation with the United Kingdom has made the Twins realize that they need allies, influence, and, more importantly, a change in their image.
Therefore, Prince Mohammed paved the way with money all the way to let the world know that Shuangzhi is different from other Middle Eastern countries.
They are wealthy, civilized, and respectful of tradition, but they will never be taken advantage of.
"I'll just treat this as a vacation for myself," Lu Lin thought to himself.
At least the old prince showed him that there were still people in this country who wanted to make it better.
"Hey, Amir," a tall, stout prince with glasses said, mustering his courage, "How about this, you give us each some money, and we'll each do our own thing and not bother each other, okay?"
“No.” Lu Lin turned around: “Your father just entrusted you to me. If I let you go, I won’t be able to explain myself when I go back.”
Who knows what kind of trouble these Middle Eastern princes will cause... If they get arrested and taken to the police station, things will get really serious.
"This isn't home! Your troops didn't come with us!" Azhar retorted stubbornly. "We're all His Majesty's nephews, why should you interfere?"
Lu Lin held up two fingers:
"First of all, you should call me cousin."
"Secondly, I do have the authority to manage you."
“It’s just managing money, what’s so great about that?” Azhar sneered.
Lu Lin suddenly grinned, revealing a set of white teeth:
Do you enjoy hunting?
"what?"
"Do you prefer catching rabbits in the desert or snakes in the Gobi Desert?" Lu Lin said, "I can go back now and suggest that my uncles send you to the army, giving you the opportunity to 'make a name for yourself'."
"I'm sure they'd be happy to agree with my opinion."
Upon hearing this, the princes all shuddered.
Their father had mentioned the matter of enlisting to the army to them, and they had to throw a tantrum to escape punishment.
But it would be different if Lu Lin spoke up.
Now, even the family dog has been singled out by him and has to report to the army!
“I’ll give you two choices,” Lu Lin said, holding up a finger, “call me cousin, or call me Major General.”
“…Cousin.”
After assessing the situation, the princes quickly chose to submit.
"Good boy." Lu Lin nodded in satisfaction.
Teaching a few brats a lesson is a piece of cake for him.
"So, cousin, where are we going next?" asked the fat prince from Abdul's family.
"bank."
"A bank?" The princes looked at each other in bewilderment.
Lu Lin waved the black card:
"When going out to play, of course you need to get some cash first."
