Chapter 24. Incense Seeds

On the eve of dawn.

The sky was gray.

The young man sat cross-legged at the foot of Manfeng Mountain, exuding an extremely sharp and impatient aura.

The moment the sky brightened, he didn't even run or hide anymore. Instead, he suddenly opened his eyes, as if he had timed it perfectly, gripped the beast-slaying sword that was about ten feet long with his five fingers, and then soared into the sky.

With a single slash, a mountain crumbled, striking a point in the void.

The place was clearly empty, but when the boy's sword slashed through, a ten-foot-tall Bodhisattva suddenly appeared.

Upon seeing the flash of the blade, the Bodhisattva clasped his hands together, attempting to catch the blade.

But how is that possible?

Ning Xuan's blade was incredibly fast; compared to him, the Bodhisattva's movements were like a snail's pace. This strike landed squarely on the Bodhisattva's brow.

A crack appeared between his eyebrows.

Ning Xuan didn't raise his sword, but a sound like a swallow's chirping rang out from between his muscles and bones.

The swallow's cry, though small, can unleash its power.

A gentle press is equivalent to a flying swallow collapsing a mountain.

The crack had grown much larger.

He struck twice in succession before the Bodhisattva's hands finally came together.

Bang!
This attempt to combine them, however, resulted in nothing.

Ning Xuan used the pressure to leap up.

Another slash landed in the same spot.

With one strike, another surge of energy followed, and then two more. This meant that although he had clearly made one strike, after it landed, the subsequent energy surged forth like a raging tidal wave.

Bang bang bang bang!

A crisp "click" sound rang out.

Spiderweb-like cracks spread rapidly outwards from the center of the Bodhisattva's blue lotus-shaped hair.

Ning Xuan grinned maliciously; he even wanted to burst into laughter.

He didn't say a word, didn't ask a question, and then stabbed again.

boom! !

The Bodhisattva is broken.

It cracked open in tiny, scattered spots.

The full moon face, the white eyebrows, the lips that hid a greedy smile all became dull, still, and then spread and shattered.

Ning Xuan felt a sense of exhilaration.

He couldn't suppress the increasingly ferocious grin spreading across his face, nor the uncontrollable greed in his eyes.

He stared at the scattered fragments, and then he saw a long, gray, bristly rat at the core.

This rat is no more than a foot long, with fur as fine as steel needles and eyes that gleam with a ghostly green.

Those eerie green pupils now displayed an indescribable disbelief.

The instant those emerald eyes met Ning Xuan's, Ning Xuan's blade had already thrust out.

The rat demon's claws thrashed about in mid-air, but like a carriage wheel stuck in mud, no matter how hard it tried, it just spun in the air. It didn't land, so of course it couldn't ride the wind.

The tip of the knife becomes a spear, a line as swift as lightning.

The blade pierced through the gray-furred rat demon's body almost instantly, the force exploding within it, coinciding almost simultaneously with the rat demon's painful squeak. Squeak squeak squeak!
boom! !

The rat demon exploded.

It transformed into a thick, billowing cloud of black smoke and flowed towards Ning Xuan.

The words finally appeared before his eyes.

He gained the power of the Scent-Stealing Rat, but not the incense-burning body of the Ten-Foot Bodhisattva.

He was born in the darkness.

Demons are born in the daytime.

When night and day meet, he also meets with demons.

The [Heavenly Demon Scroll] will sense this intersection in advance. Then, it will forcibly seize the life of the demon at the point of contact in some mysterious way and force him to refine it. If he succeeds, he will become the one who controls the power of the demon. If he fails, his soul will be scattered.

Therefore, demons can forcibly restore their power during the day through secret methods, but not at night.

The Scent-Stealing Rat is a spirit-oriented demon, but the Bodhisattva's shell is a physical one. The Bodhisattva's shell can recover without injury during the day, but at night it can only use the "Hum-Ha Technique" by forcibly burning its own foundation and turning itself from ten feet to eight feet.

Similarly, although he obtained the power of the Scent-Stealing Rat, he was unable to obtain its offerings.

Because incense belongs to the daytime side.

He belongs to the side of the night.

Even while refining the [Heavenly Demon Talisman], Bai Zhou did not allow him to take away any extra incense offerings.

As for why the Scent-Stealing Rat was able to bring a "Bodhisattva of Incense" into its body, while the Mountain-Bumping Bear Demon was unable to bring the "Crimson Incense Brocade Robe" into its nightmare, the problem likely lies in the words "Incense Seed".

The mountain-ramming bear demon is a "common species".

The scent-stealing rat is a "seed of incense".

Ordinary plants cannot attract incense offerings; one must pray to a Bodhisattva statue for incense and precious items.

Incense sticks can gather incense, making the incense a part of oneself.

As for how much incense can be gathered, it depends on the spirit, that is, the nature, which is what the elder brother called the soul, a realm completely different from flesh and blood.

Now that he has obtained the power of the Scent-Stealing Rat, his sex drive can be upgraded from "1.0" to "5.5". Is it possible for him to learn the dragon energy that his elder brother mentioned, first become a Taoist priest, and then become a celestial master?
At the same time, he gained the power of the Scent-Stealing Rat, but he had to steal incense himself.

If one steals incense and it becomes a part of him, does that mean he can also bring the incense into his nightmares?

But what is incense?
Where can we find incense offerings?

If incense offerings could become a source of power, Ning Xuan believed that his surroundings would already be dominated by temples, rather than the prosperous imperial dynasty of today.
