Chapter 34 The impending stormy phone call
Chapter 34 The impending stormy phone call (Please continue reading!)
Jun Matsueda lay on the bed, staring at the blank ceiling in a daze. It was almost eleven o'clock.
I just took a shower, but I'm already sweating. Damn the weather.
It's a bit unbearable to turn on the air conditioner only when I'm going to sleep.
"Why don't I just buy a straw mat to sleep on?" He reminisced about the bedding used in China.
The message alert sounded, and Jun Matsueda glanced at the screen. It was Tamaki Okuhara.
"Is Matsueda-kun still awake?"
He wouldn't be required to go to work at this hour, would he? Even Jun Matsueda, who aspired to be a part-time worker, put on a mask of pain at the thought.
"I'm still awake. Aunt Okuhara, do you want to see me for something?"
"I'll tell you over the phone."
The phone's default ringtone rang.
"Mr. Matsueda, I'm sorry to bother you so late at night. Something happened to me today, and after thinking about it, I felt it necessary to tell you." A gentle female voice came from the other end of the phone.
"You say." Jun Matsueda sat up from the bed and walked to the window. In the dark night, only the street lights were on.
"Well, someone came to me today and wanted me to fire you."
Jun Matsueda held the windowsill with his right hand, and his pupils dilated a little.
"Of course I refused. The other party also said that if I could fire you, I could get a considerable compensation. To be honest, I'm really tempted." Okuhara Tamaki smiled faintly on the other end of the phone.
"That gentleman also said that Matsueda-kun was actually their young master, who had run away from home out of spite and was currently working part-time. They just hoped he would be less willful and come home sooner. If I hadn't known Matsueda-kun's true situation, I might have believed him."
Both ends of the line laughed out loud. It was a pretty convincing story, Matsueda Jun thought.
"This is the situation. The company's camera took a picture of him. I will send the picture to you later. I don't know what happened, but please be careful, Matsueda-kun." There was a hint of worry in the woman's voice.
"Thank you Aunt Okuhara for your reminder. I will pay more attention."
Jun Matsueda hung up the phone, lay back on the bed, and looked at the familiar ceiling.
"That's exactly what happened." He muttered to himself, his tone becoming more relaxed. "I knew it, how could a working emperor always fail interviews?"
The road to becoming a working emperor still has a bright future.
"Who is it then? Who's secretly targeting me, just to prevent me from working, and is willing to pay for it?"
Jun Matsueda thought of the girl who had repeatedly extended olive branches to him.
The omnipresent girl didn't show up, but Jun Matsueda had to go look for her.
Get ready for bed, turn on the air conditioner and cover yourself with a blanket.
Jun Matsueda finally discovered that the ceiling was not pure white. There was a black stain on it in the corner.
The next morning, Matsueda pulled out his phone. Aozono Tamahi had already sent him a photo of a man in a black suit, fitting his stereotype perfectly. The bodyguard who had picked up Mochizuki was also wearing a similar suit.
Why aren't you wearing sunglasses? Matsueda Jun opened the door and went downstairs, thinking idly.
He went downstairs, took out his bicycle, and rode to the Mitaka Forest Convenience Store. Jun Matsueda did not forget the phone call last night, but he had to wait and see in the morning so as not to alert the enemy.
The temperature in the morning was not very high, but the wind on the road was very strong. The clouds above Songzhijun's head kept rolling, sometimes rising like mountain peaks, and soon turning into waves splashing and scattering.
It was the time for convenience stores to restock in the morning, so Jun Matsueda parked his car next to the Mitaka Forest sign and walked into the store.
As soon as he entered the door, he saw Mr. Kashida wearing metal black-framed glasses standing next to the shelf. Jun Matsueda was not too surprised. He immediately realized that the atmosphere in the store was not right.
Xiaohua and her delivery sister, Maruyama Momoe, were in the backyard, cautiously peering into the store through the glass door. Grandpa Kashida, sitting at the counter, didn't notice him, his eyes fixed on the ledger on the table, silent and silent.
It seems that the convenience store old man Kashida Kiyonori is indeed related to Mr. Kashida from Haneda Takashi, and Jun Matsueda's intuition is correct.
"Grandpa, I'll help with the hauling." He didn't plan to get involved in the Kashida family's affairs for the time being; he just wanted to do his job. The old man nodded to him, and only then did Kashida-sensei notice Matsueda Jun, adjusting his glasses in surprise.
Jun Matsueda passed by the backyard, greeted the two girls, one big and one small, touched Xiaohua's head as usual, and moved the goods from the car into the warehouse.
When he finished tidying up the warehouse and came out, the convenience store in the front yard was closed, and the three members of the Kashida family had gone somewhere unknown. Only Maruyama Momoe was left standing in the backyard with the key.
This time when Jun Matsueda was moving goods, Maruyama Momoe was not peeking from the side, probably because she was playing with Xiaohua in the backyard.
"Matsueda-kun, Grandpa Kashida said they had something to do and left first. Just help him lock the backyard before we leave." She shook the key in her hand.
An old-fashioned trust that only old-fashioned Japanese people could have.
"Sister Baizhi, are you free later? I have somewhere I want to go, could you please give me a ride?"
When Maruyama Momoe heard the first half of Matsueda Jun's words, he thought spring had finally come, but after hearing it, he realized that he was just a tool.
“Dad told me to go back quickly after I finish delivering the goods,” she said anxiously, twisting her fingers.
"Sister Baizhi." Songzhi Jun looked into her eyes.
"Get in the car!"
The two of them boarded an Isuzu truck and drove out of the Kashida family's backyard. The white clouds above the city began to grow thicker, but their speed remained constant. In the distance, a dark mass of clouds seemed to be approaching.
"Where are you going, Matsueda-kun?" Even if it's to the ends of the earth, Maruyama Momoe will take the boy there. This is her wish!
Jun Matsueda opened the navigation to show her that the Isuzu truck was heading towards the Mochizuki family's manor.
"It looks like it's going to rain." The girl in the driver's seat began to look for topics to talk about.
"It feels like the rain is going to be heavy." Jun Matsueda looked out the window. The white sky had gradually been swallowed by rain clouds and became gloomy.
Jun Matsueda took out his cell phone and sent a message to Haruka Mochizuki.
"Mr. Mochizuki, I haven't thanked you enough for leading the engineering team to visit the orphanage last time. I'd like to visit you this afternoon. I wonder if that would bother you."
The message immediately showed as read, but there was no reply.
The phone popped up and Jun Matsueda chose to answer it.
"You want to come to my house now?" The girl's voice was still clear and pleasant.
"Yes, will it bother you?" Jun Matsueda closed the car window. The wind was getting stronger and the morning heat had disappeared.
"Wait a minute." The voice on the other end became weaker, probably because the receiver was covered. Matsueda Jun could vaguely hear the girl's footsteps and her conversation with another woman.
"No need to bring gifts, just call me when you get there." Mochizuki Haruka hung up the phone.
The train was so quiet that only the sound of the engine and the whistling wind outside could be heard, as if even the Isuzu train, which was said to be "immortal", was frightened by the dark clouds pressing down on it.
"Matsueda-kun, do you want to go to your female classmate's house?" Maruyama Momoe asked cautiously.
"Well, I was taken care of before, and my elders asked me to come and express my gratitude." Jun Matsueda looked at the rising road ahead. The Tama area is located in the western part of Tokyo. There are many mountains, so there are many showers in summer.
"Oh, I see."
The manor building could be vaguely seen ahead. Matsueda Jun thanked Maruyama Momoe and got out of the car, reminding her to be careful on the way back.
The Wangyue family's manor is backed by a small hill. There are few tall buildings around it and there is a lot of vegetation. It looks spacious and makes people feel relaxed and happy when looking at it on weekdays.
Yet, even though it was only one in the afternoon, it was already approaching dusk, draining most of the city's color. Matsueda Jun looked up and could see a massive, gloomy cloud pressing down on the buildings, obscuring them, while the distant darkness occasionally flashed with lightning.
The rain is coming and the temperature is going to drop. Songzhi Jun thought that it seems that he can buy the mat two days later.
The relief door was opened and Jun Matsueda walked into the manor.
