Chapter 720 Danger Often Originates from Within

When Jun Matsuoka woke up the next morning, the first thing he heard was the crackling sound from behind the tightly drawn curtains.

"..." The lingering sleepiness quickly dissipated. He put on his clothes, walked to his desk, and drew back the curtains.

Outside, everything was gray and murky. The rain, like grains of sand, pelted the window in front of me, obscuring the original color of the glass and making a dense, rapid, and crisp sound.

The boy subconsciously took a step back, watching the hazy light and shadow fall on the desk, flickering and changing rapidly, like the screen of a malfunctioning old television.

"Should we move the table?"

After clearing everything off his desk, Jun Matsue picked up his phone and walked out of the bedroom—the living room was unusually dimly lit, making it impossible to tell that it was 7:30 in the morning.

He pressed the switch on the wall, and the sudden light made the boy squint. He walked to the balcony where the sound of rain was coming from and pulled back a corner of the curtain.

Sharp splashes of water erupted on the balcony floor tiles, but thankfully the drain was working properly and no water flooded into the living room.

After walking around all the doors and windows of the apartment to make sure everything was alright, the boy returned to the hallway and opened the door next to his bedroom.

The handwritten "Kurasu Yosei" sign on the thin wooden door swayed, and Matsueda Jun leaned inside first.

In the pitch-black room, he could barely make out the outlines of objects, and he quietly began to walk.

The girl was lying in bed, comfortably covered with a blanket. Her peaceful, soft breathing was muffled by the sound of rain tapping on the window, indicating that she was sleeping soundly.

Walking to the tightly drawn curtains, and after confirming that the torrential rain outside wouldn't disturb Laiqi's sweet dreams, the boy returned the way he came and carefully closed the bedroom door without making a sound.

After finishing all this, Jun Matsue yawned and went into the bathroom to get back to his daily routine.

Three minutes later, when the toothbrush cup, still wet with water droplets, was put back in its place, the phone on the table next to it lit up and vibrated silently for a moment.

After glancing at the pale yellow parrot that popped up at the top of the screen, Jun Matsue first wiped his face with a wet towel, then hung the towel back on the shelf with one hand and picked up his phone with the other.

Yamami Maki sent me a short video, which she filmed while standing in her bedroom.

In the first few seconds, the girl held her phone very low, and the screen showed water splashing on the ground outside the balcony door, bare feet in slippers, and the hem of a thin nightgown—it seemed she had just gotten up.

"Matsueda-kun, it's raining so hard outside!" The senior's voice came through the raised camera, which was pointed at the torrential rain outside.

The girl's words carried a hint of unease and obvious excitement. Jun Matsue opened the input box and walked towards the refrigerator in the corner of the living room.

"They should have entered the typhoon's typhoon circle. Is everything alright with my senior?"

"No problem!" Yamami Maki replied quickly. "The doors and windows didn't get wet or shake. Although the rain outside was a bit scary, I actually feel safer staying at home~"

"That's good."

"I'm going to wash up and prepare breakfast. Has Matsue-kun had breakfast yet?"

"Thinking about what to eat."

"How about something with soup?" the girl suggested, trying to think of a solution for him.

"Wouldn't a feeling of happiness arise spontaneously while sipping hot, thick soup and looking out the window at the typhoon-stricken sky?"

Jun Matsueda stood in front of the refrigerator and nodded. "A good suggestion."

No new messages popped up in the chat box; the senior student must have gone to wash up. The boy opened the refrigerator door and looked at the food he had prepared yesterday.

"Breakfast with soup...?"

Twenty minutes later, when Yosuke Kurusu stretched and walked out of the bedroom, he saw Jun Matsueda sitting at the dining table, holding a bowl and watching TV.

The sleepiness in the girl's eyes vanished instantly. She curled her lips into a smile and skipped towards the boy.

"Pine branch is up so early, is it secretly eating something good behind my back?"

"It's just miso soup with rice."

Jun Matsueda looked away from the television and watched as the idol walked up behind him and put her hand on his shoulder.

"Wow..." Yosei Kurusu bent down to carefully examine the rice porridge in the boy's bowl in front of him.

Besides the basic miso soup ingredients of kelp, tofu, and bonito flakes, there were also white jade mushrooms and a soft-boiled omelet. The savory aroma rose along the rim of the bowl, awakening the taste buds of the girl who had just been staring blankly at the rain outside her bedroom window.

"I want some too!" she said, shaking the boy's shoulder.

Jun Matsue brushed aside the long pink hair that was hanging in front of his eyes to prevent it from falling into his breakfast.

"The miso soup is in the pot, the heat was just turned off not long ago. If it gets cold, you can reheat it. The rice is also placed next to it, ready for you to soak anytime."

The reason he chose rice porridge instead of noodles was so that even if Kurusu didn't know what time he would get up, he could still have the most delicious breakfast.

"Great!"

The girl behind him walked excitedly into the kitchen, while the boy picked up his phone from the dining table.

My senior sent me her breakfast: a slice of melted cheese and a slightly browned fried egg on top of freshly cooked instant noodles, looking incredibly tempting.

"It looks pretty good."

After sending a brief reply, Jun Matsueda put down his phone. Behind him, in the kitchen, Yosuke Kurusu hummed an unknown melody as he turned on the gas stove, waiting for the hot miso soup to be ready.

On the other side of the wall, a television was playing the morning news, and the host's bright voice reached their ears.

"Typhoon No. 19 entered the Kanto region early this morning. It is expected that the maximum rainfall intensity in Tokyo and surrounding areas will reach 60-80 mm, and the rainfall will continue for more than 24 hours."

"Residents of all areas are advised not to go out unnecessarily, to pay close attention to relevant information, and to take preventive measures..."

After breakfast, the wind and rain outside seemed to pick up again. Jun Matsue returned to his bedroom and sat down by the rattling window.

Yosei Kurusu poked his head in through the bedroom doorway. "Matsueda's going to study?"

"Learn for a bit first." He shifted his chair, "Then I'll write a song for you."

The girl blinked. "Won't the wind break this window and suck you out?"

"..." The boy turned around and glanced at her. "Is it really that exaggerated?"

Miss Idol still seemed uneasy. She dragged her yoga mat to the bedroom door, lay on the mat, and stared at the boy by the desk.

The girl took out her phone and started playing soothing music essential for yoga.

"Won't this distract the pine branches?"

Jun Matsue turned around and glanced at her again. "No."

Kurusu wasn't lying right in front of him—compared to her vibrant and sexy body, the music's impact on his attention was negligible.

The room with the lights on felt like nighttime. The boy put on his headphones, opened his book, and parted the curtains a crack in front of him.

Time slipped away quickly through the turning pages of the book, like an endless curtain of rain on the window. When Jun Matsueda took off his headphones, picked up his empty water glass, and turned around, the yoga mat by the door had disappeared, replaced by the sound of running water from the bathroom.

As he walked into the living room and picked up the kettle, the sound of water from the bathroom had just stopped. The boy watched as the clear water filled the glass. A rustling sound came from the hallway behind him, followed by the light clatter of slippers.

He turned around, holding his water glass, just as Yosuke Kurusu was walking out of the bathroom.

The girl wore a loose white T-shirt that covered her lower body, with a towel draped over her shoulders and a bottle of body lotion in her hand. Her cheeks were slightly flushed from the steam, indicating that she had taken a nice hot shower after exercising.

She leaned against the doorway of the boy's bedroom, spreading the body lotion she'd squeezed onto her arm. "What time is it?"

Jun Matsueda took out his phone. "9:30."

Yamami Maki sent him a few more messages—even in the midst of a stormy day, her daily reports showed no signs of stopping.

The senior sends a lot of messages every day, but the boy doesn't reply to every single one. However, as long as the message is marked as read, the girl seems to find the motivation to keep doing so.

Miss Idol stretched, her loose T-shirt tightening and outlining her curvaceous figure.

"So fast? I haven't even started vocal exercises yet!"

"It's not too late to practice your voice now, and I'm going to start writing songs anyway."

Jun Matsuoka took a sip of water and watched her continue applying body lotion—the pure white lotion, like milk, was spread little by little by the girl's fingertips, seeping into the smooth and firm skin of her arms, a truly beautiful sight.

When Qi Yangshi casually lifted her T-shirt and bent down to apply body lotion to her legs, the boy quickly walked past her with a water glass and hurriedly went into the bedroom.

The rain outside the window continued to fall heavily. Before putting on his headphones, Jun Matsue clicked on the soft and gentle rabbit avatar in his chat list.

Tomatsu Yuka woke up quite late today, and only sent him a voice message saying good morning around 9 a.m., and then posted a picture of her simple breakfast.

"It's raining heavily in Tokyo right now. Is everything alright where you are?"

Tomatsu's upscale apartment is right next to the Zenpukuji River. Although the risk of flooding is not as high as that around the Kanda River where my senior lives, we still have to be careful.

The girl quickly sent a picture of herself and her mother sitting in front of the television.

However, the boy could only see the hem of Ms. Tomatsu's dress and the lower half of the TV; most of the space in the photo was occupied by Tomatsu Yuka's fair legs under her home dress.

It seems there are no problems... Jun Matsue puts away his phone with relief and turns to the page in the notebook on the table that is full of lyrics and sheet music.

He thought for a moment, then pulled the curtains in front of him completely open.

The raging wind and rain, like a gloomy oil painting constantly blurring and distorting, were laid bare before him.

"Creative work requires a special environment," the boy nodded in satisfaction.

Forty minutes later, Jun Matsue paused the melody in his ears, put down his pen, and looked at the lyrics he had pieced together again on the new page of the manuscript.

"Is the song finished already? Or are you just tired of writing?"

A light, airy voice suddenly rang out behind him, and he turned around.

Yosei Kurusu was lying on his bed looking at a tablet. The girl's healthy legs were slapping the blanket up and down, and she rolled up the hem of her T-shirt, revealing the soft flesh on the back of her thighs that trembled slightly.

The boy turned halfway around, looking somewhat surprised. "Weren't you practicing your voice?"

"Finished practicing?"

Miss Idol turned over, propped her head up with one hand, and faced him sideways.

“I told you when I came in, but you didn’t react because you were wearing headphones.”

Jun Matsue took off his headphones, watched as the girl rolled around once, got up, got out of bed, and walked barefoot toward him.

"Has Songzhi finished writing the song? Let me see it!"

"I just filled in the core lyrics and demo." Seeing Kurusu's aggressive look, he picked up the notebook on the table and stretched it out towards the window away from the girl.

"Then I can see it too!" Kurusu Yosei walked to the boy's side, but was stopped by an outstretched arm. She reluctantly pressed his shoulder, leaned forward, and reached for the draft paper on the other side.

"I'm your client, so it's only natural for me to check on the progress!"

He raised his arm to shield her waist, the warm, firm touch against his arm. Matsueda Jun blinked and pushed the girl who was leaning against him away a little.

"Didn't you say you weren't in a hurry? At least let me finish writing the whole song before you look at it."

The idol girl relentlessly stretched out her arms, twisting her body in an attempt to break through the boy's obstruction.

"I'm curious!"

"I have nothing to do right now, can't I take a look?"

Yosei Kurusu was flexible and agile, and had gained "air superiority." Jun Matsueda had to stand up to block her intrusion—the girl's waist, forearm, and chest would occasionally brush against his body or press against his arm, slowly changing the nature of this "fight."

After a brief yet prolonged standoff, when the girl's T-shirt was lifted up, revealing a corner of her dark gray cotton underwear covering her pert buttocks, the boy, unable to bear it any longer, finally put down the lyric book in his other hand, picked up Kurusu Yosei horizontally with both hands, and threw her onto the bed behind him.

Miss Idol let out a melodious gasp, landed on the bed and bounced twice, helplessly watching the boy approach her.

Jun Matsue grabbed the blanket from the corner of the bed and rolled it up around the girl who was lying flat.

“…Behave yourself.” His breathing was a little rapid. After applying body lotion, Kurusu’s skin was smooth and sweet, with an exceptionally pleasant feel.

"I'll show you when the song is finished."

"It's like a child who hasn't fully grown up yet, ugly and embarrassing to be seen."

"Oh..." Kurusu Yosei looked down at himself and twitched a couple of times like a caterpillar.

"There must be a melody, right?" She looked up. "At least let me sing a couple of lines, Pine Branch!"

"..." The boy glanced at her, then sat back down by the window and picked up his demo.

"Hold me tight right now~" he sang softly, the melody gentle, carrying a stubborn sadness.

"They said as long as I'm here, nothing else is needed~"

"Then kiss my lips..."

After humming a few lines indistinctly, Jun Matsue put down his notebook and looked at the caterpillar-like girl on the bed.

"...Is this the chorus?" Yosuke Kurusu's eyes sparkled.

She shifted slightly, wrapped in the blanket, and began repeating a section of the melody.

"It sounds really good!" the girl nodded. "It doesn't sound like a sweet love song."

"Didn't you say you didn't want that style?" The boy rolled his eyes at her and turned to face the torrential rain outside the window.

"You've heard enough, now get out of here and stop bothering me."

Only the relentless sound of rain outside the window answered him. Jun Matsue turned around, and Yosei Kurusu, lying on the bed, grinned and looked at him.

"No!" The girl's eyes gleamed mischievously. "The TV said that for safety's sake, it's best if everyone stays in one room!"

"Pine Branch, focus on writing your song. I'll stay in your bed and won't bother you~"

"..."

Looking at the idol's restless long legs peeking out from under the sheets, Jun Matsueda rubbed his temples.

This typhoon day seems a bit dangerous, he thought with a headache.
