Chapter 49 Sister
Chapter 49 Sister
The ceiling fan in the living room was turning slowly, bringing a cool breeze.
Sofia sat on the edge of the sofa, quietly observing the strange man in the corner of the living room.
This man was brought back by Mario early this morning.
Ever since she woke up, she has been sitting there, staring at the computer screen, without saying a word.
The text on the webpage scrolled by quickly; it was all in Portuguese.
She couldn't recognize what was written on it.
Sophia studied him for a while longer, but the man seemed completely unaware of her presence.
Her curiosity grew stronger, so she stood up and took the initiative to strike up a conversation: "Are you hungry?"
Just as Zhou Yi was focused on tracking the latest developments in Brazil, a girl's voice suddenly came from behind him.
"are you hungry?"
He turned around and looked back, his eyes meeting Sofia's.
Mario's sister was standing in the middle of the living room, looking at him expectantly.
Last night at the club, Zhou Yi casually paid for Mario and Mario's bill.
Although the amount wasn't large, Mario was almost moved to tears and patted his chest, inviting him to stay at his home for three days.
With the idea of staying a few more days to prevent Diaz from running away, Zhou Yi gladly accepted Mario's suggestion.
"are you hungry?"
Just then, Sofia repeated the question.
Zhou Yi finally came to her senses. "I'm not hungry yet, but thank you."
"It was just a casual question, there's no need for thanks or anything."
Sofia shrugged and plopped down in the chair next to Zhou Yi.
"What's your name? Mario has never brought a friend home before," she asked curiously.
"Juan? Or John? It depends on which one you prefer."
"Juan? What country are you from?"
“Mexican,” Zhou Yi replied casually, moving the mouse to close the article page from the Vanguard newspaper.
Sofia, on the contrary, became even more interested.
She moved a little closer, her eyes gleaming. "This is Portuguese, isn't it? You can actually read it?"
"Yes." Zhou Yi didn't want to explain further, simply cleared the search history, and shut down the computer.
Sofia rested her chin on her hand, lost in thought. "My ninth-grade algebra teacher was from Brazil. I even learned a little language from him, but unfortunately, I dropped out of school."
Zhou Yi did not respond.
But Sofia was clearly just as talkative as her brother, and continued talking even though he was taciturn.
"Actually, I really liked school, but my family was not doing well at that time, and my grandmother's health was getting worse, so I had to go out to work."
"I'm currently helping out at a department store. I work as a cashier during the day and cook at night. My life is incredibly boring."
“Mario wouldn’t let me get involved in his business with the Colombians, saying it was a man’s job.”
"So it's just me and my grandma at home. She's old and hard of hearing, and she sits in the yard all day sunbathing."
"Honestly, sometimes I feel like she has no idea what the outside world has become."
"However, this has its advantages. At least this way, she won't notice if I sneak out in the middle of the night."
Zhou Yi remained silent, simply listening quietly.
Sofia tilted her head, revealing a sly smile. "And you, Juan? Do you have any brothers or sisters?"
Zhou Yi wanted to shake his head, but he froze the moment he inadvertently looked into Sophia's eyes.
Caught off guard, completely unprepared.
Something awakens from the depths of memory.
Brown eyes, clear, with a hint of stubbornness. Exactly the same as the girl under the Christmas tree twenty years ago.
Zhou Yi's throat tightened slightly, and after a half-second, he managed to say with difficulty, "Yes, I have a younger sister. She is very important to me."
Sofia nodded, and was about to say something when there was a knock on the door.
Suddenly pulled back to reality, Zhou Yi saw Sophia walking towards the door.
Overwhelmed with emotion, he took out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, leaned back in his chair, and took a deep drag.
Nicotine slid into the lungs with the airflow, but the unpleasant memories lingered.
The knocking on the door continues.
Zhou Yi narrowed his eyes but did not get up immediately.
Click.
The door lock was opened.
The next second, Sofia's cursing voice rang out in the living room.
"Didn't I fucking tell you to get the hell out of here?!"
Immediately following was a crisp slap.
Zhou Yi frowned, summoned a pistol from the system, cocked it, gripped it with his left hand, put it behind his back, and strode towards the door.
Outside, a young man was gripping Sofia's wrist tightly, his eyes fierce.
Sofia struggled fiercely, but the other person was very strong and held her wrists tightly.
Zhou Yi glanced at the other party and, after confirming that they were not carrying any weapons, tucked the gun back into his waistband and said in a restrained tone, "Let go."
The man was stunned for a moment, then subconsciously stopped what he was doing, as if he hadn't expected there to be anyone else in the room.
But when he saw Zhou Yi clearly, his anger intensified. "Who the hell are you?"
Before Zhou Yi could answer, he turned to Sophia and cursed through gritted teeth, "You bitch, how dare you sleep with someone else behind my back? Fuck your mother!"
Sofia's anger was instantly ignited.
She pulled sharply, forcefully breaking free from the man's grasp.
"Fuck you, Castel!"
Her voice was sharp and fierce.
"Have you been drained of your brain by those whores in the brothel? Have you forgotten that I dumped you three days ago?"
"Why didn't you feel any shame when you were cheating on me? Now you're back to act like a madman?"
Castel's face turned bright red, and the veins on his forehead bulged, as if he might pounce at any moment.
Seeing this, Zhou Yi took a step forward and subtly pushed Sophia back.
After all, he didn't want the situation to escalate and the conflict to affect the passport processing.
Castel noticed his actions, licked his lips, and secretly compared his own physique with the man's.
The conclusion was quickly reached: they simply couldn't win.
Even so, he was still not satisfied, so he changed his approach and bypassed Zhou Yi, continuing to hurl threats at Sofia.
"You bitch, don't fucking think that just because Mario was someone's dog in Colombia, you have the right to be arrogant."
Sofia sneered and retorted without backing down:
“You talk as if you’re not a dog, Castel.”
"Don't think I don't know about your petty affairs. You're just a gofer at best, not even qualified to lick the shoes of the real big shots."
As soon as he finished speaking, Castel's expression changed drastically. He was about to step forward when Zhou Yi took a half step back and slammed the iron door in his face.
boom!
The door trembled, shutting out all the curses and insults, along with Castel's pride.
Sofia was stunned for a moment, clearly not expecting Zhou Yi to close the door so decisively.
She wanted to say another few more words, but before she could finish speaking, she heard a man's voice in her ear, "Calm down."
