Chapter 28 Araka
Chapter 28 Araka
"Rebecca!"
Mann was in control of the car. At his command, Rebecca, who was sitting next to Lin Yue, leaned half her body out of the window and sat on the windowsill.
"Whoosh!" Pila's window opened as well, and he pulled out the [Scorched Earth Grenade] hanging from his waist and threw it out.
Pila, a technical expert, always carries projectiles with him.
boom!
The powerful blast wave caused the car to swerve left and right, and the deafening explosion instantly turned the van into a ball of fire, sending it tumbling and flying backward!
The spent cartridge case from Rebecca's gun bounced in through the window, and as Rebecca shouted, a shotgun ricocheted off the rear windshield.
The glass shattered, mixed with bloody shards, and the driver was smashed to pieces. The car wobbled and crashed into a burning pile of garbage on the side of Taipingzhou Road.
As expected of a cyberpunk team that makes a living in Night City!
Lin Yue felt he hadn't made a mistake in choosing the wrong person.
"Get to work, Mr. Lin!" Dorio, holding a pistol, leaned out of the window and attacked with Rebecca.
The cleaners were temporarily suppressed by the firepower. Lin Yue understood immediately, so he opened the sunroof and stepped onto the back seat. The cat was then placed on the roof, and he locked onto the cleaners who had just poked their heads out of the car window.
The sound of a sniper rifle, like an electromagnetic cannon, echoed through the dilapidated streets of Taiping Island.
"That's spot on, you bastard!"
Rebecca laughed and praised Lin Yue, her voice carried by the strong winds of the car as it passed into the ears of the cleaners behind them.
"Damn it! Kill that bitch! She's tough, so be smart!"
The burly scavenger masks were covered in colorful, flashing graffiti—a way for them to conceal their horrific faces. They were also muscular and wore butcher aprons made of rubber, stained with bits of flesh and blood.
Before he could finish speaking, all that was left was his neck swaying in the wind against the window.
Which one is this?
Lin Yue counted, and it seemed to be the third one.
"The meat grinder is here!"
Rebecca's rifle was spitting sparks, and bullets were hitting the Scavenger's pickup truck behind her, making it smoke. Bullets whizzed past her ears, but she was not afraid and instead pressed the trigger even harder.
The sweepers changed their strategy and flanked us from the narrower side of the road, catching Rebecca off guard.
huh~
The bullet bounced off the window frame next to Rebecca, and she instinctively flinched.
Lin Yue's pistol had already killed the driver of the car. Rebecca and Lin Yue exchanged a glance and then each fired their shots.
Several of the Cleaner's bullets hit Lin Yue's arm. The subcutaneous bulletproofing only allowed the bullets to penetrate a short distance, with the twisted bullets embedded tightly one centimeter below the skin. There was no strong cavity effect; only a few drops of blood appeared.
It is no longer a frail body that renders one incapable of movement.
Love you, Lao Wei!
Lin Yuezhen thought Lao Wei's stuff was really good.
Lin Yue's special skills, such as "copper heart and iron gall," also gave him greater strength, and even some of his bleeding points stopped bleeding.
Although the injury was real, it wasn't the kind of injury that would have been fatal with a single shot.
Amidst a series of collisions and explosions, Lin Yue and Mann's team fought their way to the Taipingzhou Seaside Scenic Area.
After the battle, Lin Yue sat in the back seat and picked a bullet out of his palm.
Rebecca patted Lin Yue on the shoulder in approval, then leaned back comfortably against the seat with her arms crossed, her eyes closed and a look of contentment on her face.
"Fuck you, cleaner!" Pila stretched out his exaggeratedly long prosthetic arm from the car window, giving Night City the longest middle finger!
……
Following the company's pick-up location, the car slowly drove towards the entrance of an abandoned hotel on the coast.
The dilapidated iron fence creaked and groaned in the sea breeze surrounding Night City.
A man in a gray suit and sunglasses stood in the courtyard, next to two mechanical guards and several security personnel. A guy wearing an Arasaka hacker helmet sat in the back seat typing on a computer.
Mann patted the face of the man who had been rescued. The man's vital signs indicated that he was still alive, but he was probably in shock now.
The man was carried on Mann's shoulder.
He had a cigarette dangling from his mouth and cursed, "This kid has no pants, it's poking me!"
The company dog waved, and the group walked into the yard. The guy waved back, and the mechanical guards lifted the man from Mann's arms and carried him to the trunk of the car.
"Well done. It seems this new dog is quite efficient."
The man clapped his hands, a remark that made Lin Yue frown slightly.
"Your boss should have explained things clearly to everyone, right?" The man looked around at the crowd.
Mann cast a questioning look at Lin Yue.
Lin Yue shook his head. "What did you say?"
"It's about keeping secrets, everyone."
The man pointed to the biotechnology logo on the car behind him. "This guy was caught in Dogtown by our men while carrying secrets, and we even hired Cleaners to silence him. But those bastards Cleaners still want to sell it to us. We have no choice but to accept this loss."
"This guy didn't say anything to you, did he?"
Mann was a little annoyed. "Just fart directly, okay? Stop beating around the bush."
"It's just a small insurance policy, 755. Come here and erase these people's memories."
As they were speaking, the cybernetic bodies of the Mann team members next to Lin Yue suddenly crackled with electricity!
With a crackling sound, Mann's dark, muscular body kicked up dust as he struggled to his feet.
All their prosthetic parts have malfunctioned; they can only speak now. "Lin Yue! What happened?" Rebecca's expression was ferocious. "You damn company dog!"
Pila screamed loudly:
"I knew following this kid wouldn't lead to anything good."
Lin Yue remained calm:
"What do you mean?"
The biotech man waved his hand. "Hans told me about you, saying that you have a powerful backer. I'd like to ask who it is? As for them... 755 is worried that your partners might do something irrational, so they've stopped their prosthetic bodies from working for a while. No objections?"
"Mr. Lin!"
Dorio's gaze turned cold.
The entire squad was watching Lin Yue.
“If I were you, I would think about how to get my comrades back on their feet, and you would also have to dust them off.”
The man didn't speak, but the hacker 755 spoke up.
It was a muffled, distorted female voice: "How will you make me pay the price?"
Lin Yue completely ignored the hacker.
“My boss said he’s got the job in Dogtown covered. I guess you want to stand up for Hans, right? And this Miss Number, you have too big a mouth. Your boss must be blind to hire such an idiot.”
"It seems you still don't quite understand biotechnology." The man shook his head. "Do you know what you mercenaries... and your boss and all that, are in our eyes? Dogs, good dogs that can get things done."
Lin Yue asked, "Do you know a saying in Dogtown?"
Seeing that the man remained silent, Lin Yue continued expressionlessly:
"Dogs can bite too..."
As they spoke, the faint sound of car engines came from the dilapidated road behind them, and two company vehicles painted with the Arasaka logo—[dark-colored Lexus ZR-5000 security modified vehicles]—slowly drove up.
"Damn it, what's Arakawa doing here?"
There has been some minor disruption to security regarding biotechnology.
The lead Arasaka company vehicle stopped behind Lin Yue, and two Arasaka agents got out of the car and opened the door. V jumped out of the back seat.
"【Isaacson】(Note) Doctor, Biotechnology Research and Development Department. When did you start doing the work of a secret agent?"
"Haven't you finished cleaning up the mess with [Safety Spirit] (note) yet?"
V stares at the biotechnology man.
The man stared at the woman, "Who the hell are you? From Arasaka... Is your boss sure he wants to mess with us?"
"Watch your mouth. Does Arasaka need to ask our boss's opinion before he can get things done? We still need people—"
A burst of electricity suddenly appeared in 775's hacker helmet.
The woman screamed and tumbled off the back seat.
"Teach your men a lesson... So, is this the end of it?" V's expression didn't look like he had just reprimanded a hacker.
He was very measured in his actions, keeping someone in bed for days with just the right amount of force.
Dr. Isaacson's expression shifted. The woman from the Arasaka company in front of him must be the master behind the mercenary's boss.
Holy crap, Hanz, so this mercenary works for Arasaka.
Depend on!
The doctor cursed the middleman in Dogtown a thousand times in his mind.
Isaacson seemed to be thinking about his chances of winning and fell silent.
As time ticked by, everyone's hearts pounded with increasing anxiety.
Lin Yue was also on tenterhooks, unsure whether the damage to biotechnology's reputation would make things very ugly with Arasaka.
Only V, quietly observing the people working in biotechnology.
The agents from Arasaka behind him had their hands on their waists.
"let's go!"
The doctor's face flushed red, and he finally gave in.
V raised his palm and moved his fingers slightly. "Take care, and don't bother seeing me out."
A group of people watched the gritted teeth-gritting biotechnician leave.
As the car engine noise faded into the distance, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Apart from Lin Yue.
He was not at ease at that moment.
No company in the world will back up mercenaries, and V will not do business at a loss.
Arakasaka doesn't do things for free.
