This was an outcome they didn't want, because if John acquired it himself, it wouldn't benefit them at all. If Dreamworld and Nvidia were to make the deal, they would also have to contribute financially, which they were unwilling to accept. They didn't have the funds to invest in such an acquisition, and they also didn't want their shareholding to shrink.

Suddenly, these old guys discovered they could find almost no assets to acquire for John, assets that would satisfy him, unless they were willing to give up a media company, which was simply impossible.
