America: My Time
Chapter 5 Ambition
Chapter 5 Ambition
Chapter Five: Ambition
The novel from my memory needs to be written quickly; time is money. If I'm even a step late, by the time the original owner finishes writing it, it will be too late. Right now, I need the copyrights to make money. The sooner it's published, the sooner I can profit, accumulate more funds, and at the same time, gain greater fame, providing a stronger boost to my future actions!
Although I will be very busy and under a lot of pressure during this period, it will be worth it compared to the future gains. You can only reap what you sow. Nothing comes without a price, and plagiarism is no exception. Even plagiarists need to put in hard work.
Opportunities like the Plaza Accord don't come around often. Since I've encountered one, I must seize it and do my utmost to amass enough wealth to prepare for my next plan. Only with sufficient funds can my grand scheme proceed smoothly.
Although I haven't been part of this era for very long, I already have a rather vague grand plan in my mind. To promote this plan, I need a huge amount of funds. At least to start it, I need hundreds of millions of dollars. It is impossible to complete this task by simply relying on plagiarism.
The gold market presents an opportunity. If we miss this golden opportunity, all our plans will be affected, which is an outcome we don't want to see. We must work hard to complete all the previous preparations, gather as much capital as possible, and wait for the right moment to arrive.
Arriving in the United States in 1981 and understanding his surroundings, he naturally developed astonishing ambitions: to wield power over the world and enjoy the company of beautiful women was his ultimate goal. In the United States, to achieve this, he needed to own a large conglomerate, which represented his ambition.
After World War II, the last super conglomerate was established, and the United States could no longer tolerate the emergence of new super conglomerates. The Plaza Accord was the best opportunity to break this restriction and the first step in laying a solid foundation for itself. If this step failed, it would be even more difficult to proceed.
Understanding all this is what motivates John to work even harder. Time waits for no one. Although he possesses a wealth of information about the future, establishing his own conglomerate remains incredibly difficult. Opportunities exist, but failing to seize them is like trying to catch the moon's reflection in water. To succeed, one needs to make more attempts and preparations in the early stages of development; opportunities always favor the prepared.
Once my parents approved of my idea, my focus shifted from school to my plagiarism spree. With ample time, I finished one novel after another: Forrest Gump, Resident Evil, A Song of Ice and Fire, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, and Pirates of the Caribbean! While pursuing my plagiarism goals, I was also thinking about my future plans!
Fortunately, I was transported to a wealthy family. This era is not bad either, at least there are typewriters. Otherwise, completing the work of copying documents by hand would be a painful thing. Six novels would take at least several months.
After handing the millionaire project over to his parents, he devoted himself entirely to plagiarism, quickly completing six novels and achieving his initial goal. Writing just one book would have been much easier, but six novels naturally took longer, and this was also part of his "deification" plan.
While I was plagiarizing, my parents were also handling the sale of the family trust and the millionaire project. I have to admit that having a powerful family backing me made everything much easier. If I were to do all this on my own, I probably wouldn't even be able to finish registering the copyright in a month. Now, with my parents' help, everything was completed smoothly without any obstacles.
The show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" was eventually sold to the BBC for £20 million plus a 5% advertising revenue share. John could simply wait to collect the money without having to invest any more time or effort. £20 million—this price shocked John; the profit far exceeded his expectations!
With the success of the BBC, the US will soon follow suit, and it may even happen in more countries. Accumulating a hundred million dollars is not a dream and can be achieved soon.
The reason his parents didn't choose to sell the "Millionaire" project in the US was because the US market was the largest globally. Selling the US rights first would have resulted in huge losses. Only after the "Millionaire" project succeeded in Britain, providing a precedent and a reference point, could they maximize their profits in the US! John was full of confidence with the six novels in his hands. If he weren't too young, and if "Fifty Shades of Grey" weren't something a teenager like him could easily dabble in, it would also have been one of his targets. In fact, that book might have been the best choice for him to raise funds!
Fifty Shades of Grey sold 70 million copies in eight months, bringing in $95 million for E.L. James. The temptation was so incredible, how could he not be tempted!
After dinner, John's parents summoned him to the study. His father got straight to the point: "John, the family trust and the money from the sale of the millionaire's assets are in place. The offshore companies you requested to register have also been completed. The ten million dollars the family gave you has been split in two as you said. Now, what are your investment plans?"
"Father, I need to set up a game company to specialize in arcade and home game consoles. This is Silicon Valley, so hiring won't be difficult. However, I don't want anyone to know my plans. I need your help. During the initial research phase, I need a secret place with little contact with the outside world!"
Considering the enormous market potential of games, John made this decision to enter the gaming industry. The allure of game console patents was too great; he couldn't guarantee that his recruited employees could resist the temptation of profit, and a safe environment was crucial!
"This is easy to solve. Our family's vacation estate is in California. You can arrange for them to go there, and once the research is successful and the patent is registered, they can officially open for business!" What is a big deal and a troublesome matter for them is just a small matter in the eyes of adults!
Before the gold market fluctuates, I still have plenty of time to prepare. The game console patent must be developed immediately. If I don't speed things up, many things will fall into the hands of others!
Registering patents is my most important task right now! In my spare time from plagiarism, I've also completed the design of the game console controller and the Transformers. These are patents that urgently need to be registered, but I still need to leave all of this to my father. I don't have that ability myself.
"The research site is sorted out. Next, I need my father's help to register two patents. One is a game controller I designed, since Atari's game consoles are too rudimentary. The other is a toy design that came to me after watching some Japanese mecha anime. I call it Transformers!"
Originally, I had the idea of preemptively registering patents for office software to hinder Microsoft's development. However, my energy and time are limited, and it is impossible to do everything in such a short time. I have to make some choices, at least for now.
While office software is excellent, and Microsoft will undoubtedly become incredibly powerful in the future, it's currently just a junior partner. Once I get through this initial startup phase, I'll have plenty of time to outmaneuver Microsoft later. The game console market is different. If I don't accelerate my efforts, Japan's Famicom will soon appear, and the patents will fall into Japanese hands—a result I don't want to see. Having finally traveled to this place, and now in the US, I can't afford not to teach Japan a lesson and seize their resources; otherwise, I wouldn't be a good Chinese person.
"This is just a small matter! John, can you handle so many things? I think you should focus on doing one thing well first. Didn't you say you wanted to do entertainment? Are you giving up now?"
John shook his head and said, "No, I haven't given up. I just want to see how much money I'll have left after doing all this, and whether I can buy a small record company or a small film company!"
"Oh! So you don't plan to use the twenty million pounds in England, and only want to use the funds you have on hand for investment?" Smith was quite surprised by John's answer.
"Yes, Father. I really don't want to use those twenty million pounds. I have other uses for that money. Right now, I just want to do something with the money I have left. I wonder how much investment is needed for a small record company or film company!"
"Hahaha!" Instantly, Mr. and Mrs. Smith burst into laughter, leaving John completely bewildered as to why his parents had become like this.
