Warhammer 40: Doom
Chapter 220 We Are All Alphas
Chapter 220 We Are All Alphas
To uncover the true purpose of the brothers, investigating their background is imperative.
As the person directly involved, the Emperor personally brought Solas back, and his words carried the most authority.
Mauribas Solas's actions are seriously undermining the trust between brothers and must be stopped.
“That’s exactly what I’m planning.” Alpharis nodded and explained his plan in detail: “After investigating Solas for a while longer, I will gather the information, get away, return to Terra, and ask my father, the Emperor, for details.”
“I need sufficient evidence to accuse my blood brother in front of my father. Words of doubt alone are not convincing and will backfire.”
“That’s right.” Doom nodded in agreement, agreeing that Alpharis had clear logic and comprehensive thinking.
Evidence is the power to support a discourse; without concrete evidence, it is difficult to accuse a progenitor.
"It's almost time." Alpharis stood up to leave. After a brief exchange of messages, it was time to part ways.
Doom rose with him and saw the Secret Brothers off.
Their meeting was rushed, and their conversation involved more people than others, making it seem rather formulaic.
"I hope we'll have a chance to sit down and have a long talk next time," Doom said with regret, reluctant to end the brief meeting.
He enjoys listening to little secrets, and Alphareis knows many secrets.
“When the time is right, I will stand in the sunlight,” Alpharis laughed heartily, “and let every brother know me.”
"By then, the Great Expedition will be almost over, and we will have many opportunities to communicate together."
“I look forward to that day.” Doom and his brother smiled at each other, and a friendship was formed between them.
The two hands were clasped together, and although there was a difference in height, there was no difference in respect between them.
"This is for you." Alpharis released his brother's hand, a glint in his eyes, and took out an object from inside his armor.
Doom's gaze shifted downwards to the object in his hand, a circular mark.
The mark was held in my hand; the steel mark appeared simple and unadorned.
The circular rim features a sun emblem relief, while the central core is carved with three raised dragon heads.
“The Hydra Mark,” Alpharis explained to Doom. “The emblem of the Secret Legion. It has the authority to mobilize Alpha Legion agents.”
“Your legion is small in number and too weak in intelligence gathering. My genetic offspring might be able to help you.”
"They are experts in operations behind enemy lines, adept at undermining the enemy from within, and skilled at gathering intelligence to conduct information warfare."
Doom's eyes lit up. Without any polite refusal, he reached out and accepted his brother's gift, his action so quick that he had no chance to regret it.
Alpharis's gift was extremely precious and relieved him of a great worry.
Doom and Night Watch are the most professional warriors, though they have some experience in covert operations, they are not the most professional agents.
The ghosts of the Night Guard are more skilled in assassination and covert operations, but their weakness lies in infiltration behind enemy lines and information warfare.
Doom stroked the mark on his hand and asked his brother, "The Alpha Legion?"
“The name of the 20th Legion.” Alpharis looked relaxed. “If I weren’t the Doomsday Warrior, I would be at the bottom.”
“We are genetic brothers, we are of equal rank, there is no question of size.” Doom shook his head helplessly, a little unable to keep up with his erratic thinking.
Perhaps because he had been hiding for too long and had not communicated with his counterpart for a long time, his mind seemed to be too active.
Alpharis didn't reply, but asked Doom, "I think you should be able to find them?"
“Yes.” Doom did not hide anything and readily admitted his talent, saying that he could find the hidden Alpha Warriors.
Regardless of whether Alpharis was testing him, he would not respond to his brother's generous gift by concealing it.
Doom's straightforwardness surprised Alpharis, who realized he had underestimated his brother's generosity.
However, after realizing what had happened, his lips twitched involuntarily. The Alpha Legion's meticulous infiltration had been seen through by his brother at a glance.
He solemnly told his brother, "The Emperor has entrusted me with the mission of shadow; infiltration is the duty of me and my genetic offspring."
“I assure you, I will not interfere with them unless absolutely necessary,” Doom reiterated, recognizing the gravity of the situation.
The Shadow Legion is essential; it infiltrates various legions to monitor any ill intentions.
For example, the Empire would have had very little knowledge of Thoras's intelligence, or of the Legion Primarchs' information, had it not been for Alpharis's infiltration.
“After being hypnotized and integrated, they are already members of the Legion,” Alpharis said quickly, imparting knowledge of the Alpha Legion to Doom: “You need a secret phrase to activate them.”
"I am Alphareis."
“I am Alpharis,” Doom repeated in a low voice, memorizing the code. Alpharis, seeing this, couldn't help but chuckle inwardly. The code was actually just “Alpharis,” he had only intended to tease his brother.
He felt a surge of secret pleasure when he witnessed his blood brother declare, "I am Alpha Reis."
The code word is also fine; containing "Alpharis" will activate the lurking agents.
To his surprise, Alpharez was stunned for a long time after hearing his brother's next words.
Doom looked at him with a serious expression, his voice low and playful, and chanted the code again: "We are all Alpharis."
"Hahaha." The two looked at each other, stunned for a moment, and then burst into laughter.
"You've grasped the essence of the Alpha Legion." Alpharis was overjoyed; he had never been so happy.
“It’s time to leave.” He said with a touch of sadness, shaking hands with his brother once more to say a final goodbye.
Today we part ways, the universe is vast, and who knows when we will meet again?
Alphas cherishes his friendship with Doom; in the vast sea of people, only his brother recognized him at a glance.
The two brothers recognized each other, which lessened his loneliness.
He waved and walked toward the door, indicating that Doom didn't need to see him off anymore, but stopped at the door.
Alpharis had a complicated expression. He turned to look at Doom, opened his mouth as if to say something, but then stopped himself.
“Brother, you can speak freely.” Doom raised his hand to signal him, reassuring his brother with a calm tone.
"Stay away from the Eleventh Legion." After some hesitation, Alpharis said to Doom, "My brother, this is my most sincere advice, all for your own good."
Doom was about to ask a question when he was interrupted by Doom raising his hand: "The people in the square where the Emperor announced the Great Expedition were members of the 11th Legion disguised as members of the Alpha Legion."
Upon hearing this, Doom's pupils contracted, realizing the seriousness of the problem.
What was the reason that the soldiers of the Eleventh Legion did not appear on such a sacred and solemn occasion?
Alpharis sighed, "I don't know much, and I can't reveal anything more."
"You must remember that if you encounter the Eleventh Legion's fleet during the Great Expedition, try to minimize contact with them."
“I understand.” Doom’s expression was serious, but his eyes revealed unwavering trust.
Alpharis nodded, put on the helmet hanging from his waist, and left the room.
He quickly returned along the original route, the elevator reappeared in the garden, and he reached out to slap his self-hypnotized genetic offspring awake.
"Brother!" The infiltrator looked up and greeted the Father of Genetics with excitement, his tone filled with reluctance: "It's time to part again."
Alpharis did not blame his offspring; he had already hypnotized himself into believing that they were fellow countrymen and brothers.
“Yes, parting is always a part of our lives.” Alpharis’s emotions were genuine; he felt the bitterness of parting.
The two left the flowerbed and headed towards their respective legions.
Doom sat in the room, waiting to avoid clashing with Alpharis.
The simultaneous departure and reappearance of the two individuals easily attracts attention.
He sat in the chair, legs crossed, arms clasped in front of his chest, eyes unfocused, his mind wandering elsewhere.
With information about the Eleventh Legion constantly flashing through his mind, Doom realized that there was very little information about the Brothers Legion.
The Eleventh Army Corps, numbering only 20,000, operated with extreme secrecy, far removed from the allied forces of the Great Expedition.
Their combat methods are highly standardized, making them a disciplined force with exemplary conduct.
The imperial records contain only these brief reports, and no other records.
Doom had initially thought that the legion was far from the main force, hence the relatively few records, but now it seems there was another reason.
As the saying goes, the bigger the matter, the fewer words are needed.
Having finished reviewing the information in his mind, Doom stopped his analysis.
He kept the Alpha Brothers' warning in mind and did not spy on the Eleventh Legion out of curiosity.
He slowly stood up, left the private room where they had been talking, and headed to the garden banquet.
Having obtained very little information from his brother, Doom needed to speak with Morribas Solas, after all, he had traveled across the stars.
