Warhammer 40: Doom

Chapter 29 Facing the Gods

Chapter 29 Facing the Gods
As Doom receded into the distance, Norwick entered the throne room. The relaxed smile on his face vanished, replaced by an aura of authority that no one dared to challenge.

The civil and military officials stood neatly on either side, kneeling on one knee before the king.

During the three months that King Norwick was away, Queen Daisy handled state affairs well, but some details were not handled properly.

After finishing his official duties, Norwick removed his armor and sat in his spacious study, tapping his fingers incessantly on the stone desk as he fell into deep thought.

A true king is destined to see further than ordinary people; he must have keen insight and grasp every suspicious detail in order to see the danger lurking beneath the calm surface.

Doom's concerns provided Norwick with new ideas. The exchange between father and son served as a warning to the exceptionally wise king.

The son who descended from the heavens brought not only hope, but also new enemies and conflicts.

As the King of the Night Watchers, he must find his enemies; as a father, he needs to find out who is plotting against his son.

Doom's arrival was by no means unexpected; Norwick believed that it was unexpected that he had picked him up first.

It is certain that humans created the Doom; there is no doubt about that.

So who banished Doom, the extraordinary creation of humankind, to the void, ultimately bringing him to Nur?

A creation as powerful as Doom has never appeared even in that glorious past.

Norwick is not naive enough to believe that humanity has regrouped, reclaimed its home scattered in the void, and that its technological advancements far surpass what they once were.

They would not believe that an achievement like Doom's is an asset that can be discarded at will, and that the person who created it does not care whether it is lost.

Everything seemed unrelated, yet there was a pattern to follow. It was as if a mysterious thread was connecting a series of events.

"Fourth bookshelf, thirteenth column, the twenty-first book." He instructed the servant to take the book down.

Norwick decided to seek answers in ancient texts, to find the truth in those closed, unknown secrets.

"Get out! Tell the guards not to let anyone in before I leave!"

When his finger swept across the table of contents and stopped at the knowledge he needed, there were several large words: Subspace Energy!
Doom's amniotic pod descended from the sky, and what surprised the Night Guard the most was that something could penetrate Nur's shield.

The dimensional shield enveloping Nur, activated by several giant crystals from the Ring of Nur, pulls the entire planet out of the real universe, placing it in a state of being "visible but intangible."

Our predecessors used incredible dimensional transformation technology to allow Nur to enjoy the light of the stars while avoiding physical attacks.

Normal objects, even planets of equal mass, will not collide with Nur; they will simply pass through each other and drift away.

Normally, Doom should have missed Nur and flown to the deeper reaches of space. But he did indeed descend upon Nur, defying all logic like an orc.

The arrival of the orcs was not entirely unexpected; when they gathered together, they created a unique force field that could distort the laws of physics. Perhaps it was the force field carried by that meteorite that allowed the orcs to penetrate the dimensional shield.

King Norwick was astute enough to know that what was impossible in the real universe could be done in the subspace.

As I looked at that forbidden knowledge, the doubts in my heart gradually cleared up, and I gradually pieced together clues.

He took a quill pen and wrote "subspace energy" on the paper.

When Doom detached from the warp, the intense warp energy carried by the amniotic sac was enough to support tiny objects to penetrate dimensions and descend upon Nur.

Then, picking up his pen again, he wrote a name at the location of the opposing subspace energies: Isaac.

How did the High Priest of the City of Truth know about Doom's arrival? Norwick wouldn't believe in psychic prophecy or anything like that.

Nur exists in an independent dimension and has never interacted with the outside world. Psionic prophecy requires "cause and effect," and Nur is not connected to any timeline.

Recalling everything Isaac had said on the day of the siege, Norwick's face darkened horribly, and he wrote a single word in the corner of the paper:

god!
As the last stroke was written, the desktop began to vibrate, blood seeped from the character, and the character began to slowly distort.

Sensing the sudden drop in temperature, Norwick knew it was a psionic reaction. His will was too sharp; he raised his arm and slammed his palm down on the paper. With a loud bang, the force was so great that it shattered stone and cracked the stone table!

"Get out of here!" Novick roared, shattering the psionic reaction with his unwavering will, and simultaneously shooing away the guards outside the study who were about to come in to investigate after hearing the commotion.

"Hmph! A false illusion!"

Over the long period of time, the Night Guardians have faced many powerful psionicists as their enemies, and they are well aware of how to fight against psionicists.

Norwick smirked dismissively, knowing his thinking was correct. He wasn't afraid of a reaction; he was afraid of no reaction at all.

He picked up the quill pen again and wrote in the last corner of the paper: Creator.

This creator refers to the creator of Doom. Everything on the paper was related to Doom, so he wrote down "Doom!" among the four elements.
With all five elements written down, King Norwick suddenly understood everything; he knew everything and was only one step away from the truth.

Suddenly, just as he was about to make contact with everything, the study began to shake violently!

Not just the study, the entire building was being pulled and twisted erratically, as if it were spinning rapidly inside a drum.

The bookshelf collapsed, and countless books were opened and flipped through rapidly in the space where there was no up, down, left, or right!
"Swish! Swish!" The sound of pages turning came together, wave after wave, surging towards Norwick's ears.

The book cover gradually distorted, sprouting eyes that scrutinized him with rolling pupils. The opening and closing pages transformed into gaping maws, their long, white teeth menacing and terrifying, constantly chanting and clamoring, spewing out incomprehensible, noisy knowledge.

The scene before them wasn't exactly terrifying to the soldiers, but it was certainly bizarre.

Norwick remained seated, expressionless, and watched the supernatural scene unfold before him with great interest.

He stood firm like a rock in a storm, unmoved by the raging hurricane.
His calm face showed no sign of panic as he watched the world spin before his eyes and all sorts of strange phenomena unfold.

"Put away your pathetic illusions, these petty tricks cannot shake me!" A deep voice rang out, succinctly revealing the true nature of the terrifying scene. In an instant, the study returned to calm, as if nothing had ever happened.

In the ever-changing crystal labyrinth of the subspace, Tzeentch silently craned his neck through the curtain to observe the man playing a “simple” connect-the-dots game at the stone table.

King Norwick's revelation of the truth resonated throughout the subspace.

The answer he sought was intricately connected to the gods, concerning divine secrets, and was therefore extraordinary.

The mastermind behind the conspiracy, Tzeentch, soon noticed the man in the real universe who was constantly lifting the veil of truth.

He casually plucked a strand of fate and saw Norwick's past, a glorious history, a past imbued with profound wisdom.

But they couldn't see his future, because his fate was inextricably linked with Doom's.

"Even the wisdom of mortals can reach the divine!"

A long sigh came from the Crystal Maze, filled with both approval and apprehension; He decided to have a talk with him.

When Tzeentch's power pierced the veil of reality and descended upon the real universe, special rituals concerning Him quietly began to unfold.

Norwick saw that the ninth book on the ninth shelf, the ninth row of the ninth book, which stood against the wall, was pulled out by some mysterious force and suspended in the void.

Although its form was not visible, every angle from which the book was pulled out exuded elegance, and the sound of the pages turning was soft and harmonious.

When the book turned to the ninth page, symbolizing the wondrous numbers, a voice suddenly rang out in the study. He spoke:

"Mortals are always audacious and presumptuous, attempting to unravel the mysteries of destiny. Of course, I warmly welcome the thirst for knowledge of wise souls."

This chapter is a bit late. I don't know if I'll be able to finish writing the third chapter later. If I can, I'll post it.
