Warhammer 40: Doom
Chapter 72 Fate's Decisive Point
Chapter 72 Fate's Decisive Point
A silver runic dagger, with blue magical lines and inlaid with red, purple, and green gems, pierced Doom's body from his lower back.
His brother, whom he had never been on guard against, delivered the most insidious blow.
When Norwick was killed, the Keeper of the Secret, possessing Ennio, deceived the anxious Doom with a sorrowful cry of "Father" and the original owner's soul aura.
At the crucial moment, he used the divine weapon bestowed by the gods to pierce Doom's lower back.
The rune dagger vanished; it was an entity formed from the pure malice of the four gods, carrying the concepts bestowed upon it by the four gods, and rushed into Doom's body.
His murderous face froze in astonishment, his surprise in his eyes seeming to demand, "Why, my brother?"
The priests joined forces to erect a psionic barrier, preventing the throne guards from entering and buying time.
Seeing that the Keeper of the Secret had successfully launched a sneak attack, Isaac suddenly breathed a sigh of relief.
The plot orchestrated by the Lord of Change should not have unfolded as it is now. King Norwick should live, and live on forever.
He and Queen Daisy are the strongest chains, binding Doom with their love and bringing him back to the City of Truth.
Norwick's perfectly timed performance completely transformed Doom's previously unknown attitude towards the gods into hatred.
Fortunately, the Keeper of the Secrets who possessed Ennio succeeded.
The runic dagger created by the gods in his hand helped the demon maintain its form amidst Doom's roar, while Ennio's soul helped the demon evade detection and strike Doom at the crucial moment.
The artifact, forged by the gods themselves, will weaken Doom's body, making it easier for the psionic teleportation ritual to take him away.
There is still a chance to salvage the situation if we return to the City of Truth.
Isaac stood still, chanting a magic spell with the priest, preparing for a long-distance teleportation.
The throne room is very unsafe; the guards outside will break through the barrier quickly, so we must leave immediately.
Harlan and his guards are held back by the Keeper of the Secret, and the guards are tasked with rescuing the Queen, which will buy them enough time.
The rituals of the gods will continually corrupt him, wearing down Doom over endless time until he submits to the gods.
Doom stared in astonishment at Ennio's contorted face—a mixture of sadness and pain, yet also a strange pleasure, creating a bizarre expression that was half-crying and half-laughing.
When the silver rune dagger pierced his body, it turned into a mottled stream of mercury, flowing deep into his body through the wound.
An extreme feeling of weakness washed over him, and Doom knelt down on one knee to avoid falling. With his remaining strength, he couldn't even lift his frail father into his arms.
An extreme sense of weakness swept over his entire body. Although the gods could not shake Doom's will, they eroded his flesh through the divine artifacts.
"Do not harm my lord!"
With a roar, Harlan, spear in hand, forced back Ennio's hand that was reaching for Doom. His blade was aimed directly at the traitor, his face filled with contempt and murderous intent.
Doom's brain was buzzing, the world in his eyes began to spin, alarms sounded from all parts of his body, and all his functions began to malfunction.
He could clearly feel a powerful magical curse weakening him, and two different viruses entering his body.
The toxins march through the blood vessels like a swarm of ants, sending out sharp alarms in every nerve.
Every cell in the body is fighting against a powerful phagocytic virus, and various immune systems are battling the virus at the microscopic level.
There is also an alternative toxin that begins to numb the nervous system, disrupting various bodily sensations and bringing endless fatigue and a sense of sensory lag.
With rapid breathing, Doom was expelling various discomforts; the viruses and immune system in his body were evolving.
The two sides seemed to be engaged in a tug-of-war within each other's bodies, launching frantic attacks, with neither able to eliminate the other.
Along with the disorder of reason and bodily functions, an endless rage surged up, destroying the dam built by reason.
Doom knew it was a lie, a Blood God's attempt to control his anger and take control of his soul.
In the blink of an eye, the situation in the throne room reversed once again.
Doom was momentarily unable to resist, and the priest chanted incantations to erect a psionic barrier, preventing the throne guards from entering.
Before the psionic barrier rose, only two people followed Doom into the throne room.
Harlan thrust out his spear, severing Ennio's filthy arm. The swirling spear phantoms erected an impenetrable wall between the two.
No one is allowed to approach Doom until he falls.
The captain of the throne guard charged toward the queen, his halberd wielding an unparalleled, domineering aura, his burning rage needing an outlet.
You despicable traitors! Right under the noses of the throne guards, you kidnapped members of the royal family and killed the king they were protecting!
"Let her go! You piece of trash!"
The captain of the guard roared like thunder, his long cloak billowing behind him, as he charged toward the queen with a furious, thunderous charge, just as the priest was about to seize her.
Daisy stood there, numb with grief, unaware of the priest approaching behind her.
She learned of her eldest son's death from her husband, and then watched helplessly as her husband died before her eyes.
The monster that controlled Ennio's body stabbed her young son, and the tragedy of brothers killing each other unfolded before the throne.
This series of painful shocks left this strong woman swaying and stunned.
Her emerald eyes were now clouded with lifelessness, and her once elegantly styled long hair cascaded down her shoulders, as if all life had been drained from her in an instant. She wore a long blue dress, her pale face numb with overwhelming grief. Like a lone boat in a storm, she seemed on the verge of being swallowed by the surging waves of emotion.
The captain of the guard's shout made Daisy tremble slightly, bringing her back to her senses from her grief.
After assessing the situation on the field, she made her own judgment.
The Queen saw her captain rushing towards her, shook her head slightly, and pointed to Doom, who was bracing himself on his hands and trying to get back up.
"Go help him!"
Daisy didn't speak, but used simple lip reading to command the throne guards to rescue her son.
"drink!"
Another deep growl sounded, and the captain of the guard, having received the order, faithfully carried it out without any hesitation.
The "self-discipline" technique of sudden stop burst forth instantly, blood mist erupted from the gaps in the armor, and his body completed a ninety-degree right angle turn in the straight-line impact, wielding the halberd to support the champion swordsman.
Harlan pressed the butt of his gun against his left arm, the blade pointing directly at Ennio, showing no sign of backing down.
"Impersonator! Face me!"
The champion swordsman's attacks are swift and ruthless, lacking any flashy techniques, relying entirely on powerful intuition from within.
The spear's provocation repeatedly struck the Guardian Demon's vital points, preventing it from getting close to Doom.
The Keeper of the Secrets, possessing Ennio, felt a sense of disharmony within his body at this crucial moment when he needed to be fully focused.
The owner of this body, with a sealed soul carrying pain and sorrow, constantly challenges the shackles within his heart, wanting to regain control of the body.
Facing the white-armored warrior before him, the Guardian Demon felt a sense of pressure.
It was surprised; even without the support of a wizard's ritual, it shouldn't be so weak, suppressed by a mere mortal warrior.
His once-skilled technique began to show numerous flaws, forcing him to retreat repeatedly and gradually distance himself from Doom.
However, it was not worried. The priest's ritual was about to be completed, and the combined psionic teleportation magic would bring everything here to the City of Truth.
In this way, the gods' will was still carried out, and taking Doom away was the main objective.
Harlan was equally anxious.
He repeatedly repelled the demon disguised as Ennio, but could not defeat it head-on, while the magical ritual outlined on the floor became clearer and clearer.
Harlan glanced at Doom, whose skin color was constantly changing as he resisted the toxins in his body and kept vomiting black blood, and felt an urge to curse.
If we had killed the priest earlier, we wouldn't be in a passive position now.
Harlan understood what Harlan was thinking.
Doom never imagined that his brother was a demon in disguise, who delivered the crucial blow that would change the course of the battle.
"Go!"
Just as they were getting anxious, a loud roar came from behind them, and the captain of the guard arrived at the most critical moment.
With a tearing sound, the captain hurled a halberd, which, with tremendous force, pierced through a priest and pinned him to the ground.
Due to the lack of personnel, the psionic barrier experienced a brief breach and began to shake unstablely.
Isaac dared not act rashly, for the consequences of ceasing the spell would be even more dire, as they would be besieged by the Night Guards.
The captain of the guard didn't stop, rushing towards the royal traitor, already prepared to sacrifice himself.
Harlan seized the fleeting opportunity.
He swept his spear across, forcing Ennio back, then bent down and entrusted his back to the captain of the guard, grabbing Doom's belt.
"Disgraceful traitor! Await our revenge!"
The captain of the guard did not activate the protective force field, allowing the longsword to pierce his own body. In the traitor's astonished gaze, the power armor unleashed its full power, holding Ennio tightly.
"Get up!"
Harlan exerted his strength, the power armor's servo motors hummed, and he lifted Doom's belt, throwing him out of the magic circle's range.
The throne guards, who were standing outside the psionic array, quickly carried Doom away.
Harlan glanced one last time at Queen Daisy in the distance, raised his hand to his chest, and paid the highest tribute to the Queen.
He leaped through the gap in the psionic array, coldly glancing at the terrified and resentful Isaac, and raised his middle finger:
Fuck you, wizard!
As light rose from the ground, flashing with psionic lightning, everything in the throne room vanished.
The body of King Norwick, Queen Daisy, and the traitor and priest all left.
Harlan took off his helmet, plopped down on the ground, and took a deep breath of the air he was guarding in the main domain.
Everything happened too fast. In less than five seconds, he made too many choices and endured tremendous psychological pressure.
