Chapter 10: First Exploration of the Old Forest

Early in the morning, a figure came to the high hedge wall outside Bucks Town.

The Hobbits of Buckland were full of fear and vigilance towards the Old Wood. They had been taught from childhood how dangerous the Old Wood was, so few of them would approach the High Hedge.

Hundreds of years ago, the Hobbits of Buckland had fortified their eastern lands with a hedgerow to protect them from the trees of the old wood.

Now the hedges have grown so high and thick that they resemble a mighty wall, stretching from the Brandywine all the way around the Willow River to the end of the hedge, forming a great arc for more than twenty miles.

Dui walked for several miles along the high hedge, but could not find a gap in the hedge that could be passed.

The spell hit the tree roots, causing them to stiffen and involuntarily tangle together, forming an inseparable root ball that could no longer pose a threat to Dui.
