Chapter 325 Wand Selection
Chapter 325 Wand Selection
“Let Alanir go first.” Anlomir stepped back, making way for the little elf Alanir.
After a morning of conversation, Anlomir and Alanil had gotten to know each other, and thanks to Aragorn as their intermediary, the two children had become friends.
Although the little elf Alanir was even older than their chieftain Aragorn, the eleven-year-old Anlomir couldn't help but put himself in the position of the older brother because he looked no more than eight or nine years old, and began to take care of the little elf Alanir.
Bill didn't give the elf a chance to answer and said directly, "Then this little friend from the elf race will go first!"
He then lowered his head, his deep green eyes staring intently at the little elf, making the elf feel somewhat uncomfortable.
He then waved his wand, and a measuring tape flew off the counter and landed on the elf.
A measuring tape with silver markings was used to measure everything from the elf Alanier's shoulders to his fingertips, from his wrists to his elbows, from his shoulders to the floor, from his knees to his armpits, and finally his head circumference. It even measured the distance between his two nostrils.
This scene left everyone present looking at each other in bewilderment.
As Bill measured, he said, "Every Ollivander wand contains incredibly potent magical substances, which is its essence. We usually use dragon heartstrings, thunderbird feathers, eagle feathers, and elf hair as the core. Each wand is unique; even different feathers from the same thunderbird will have differences, just like there are no two leaves in the world that are exactly the same."
Therefore, if a wand that should belong to another wizard were used, such a good effect would never have been achieved.
After taking the measurements, he asked, "Alanier, right? Which hand do you usually use?"
The little elf raised his right hand shyly, "I can use both hands, but I usually prefer my right hand."
Bill nodded, waved his wand, and the measuring tape flew back onto the counter.
Bill turned around and searched on the wooden shelf, then pulled out a small rectangular cardboard box. He turned back to the counter, pulled out a pale yellow-white magic wand from the box, and handed it to the elf Alanier.
"Our elf friends have always been fond of wands with elven hair cores. This one has a white oak shaft and a core made from a strand of hair of a Sindar elf. Give it a try."
The little elf Alanir was a pure Sindar elf with amber eyes and long silver hair, so Bill recognized him at a glance.
Alanier carefully took the wand, unsure of what to do.
“Give it a try!” Bill suggested.
Alanier immediately obeyed and waved his wand. The next second, a beam of white light shot out, hitting the ceiling and creating a hole.
This scene startled the little elf, whose face turned pale: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to..."
The others were also startled, and the elf couple looked at Alannir with surprise and worry.
Anlomir, on the other hand, was filled with surprise, excitement, and anticipation.
Bill waved his hand dismissively, comforting the frightened elf, "This is normal, no need to apologize."
As he spoke, he picked up the magic wand from the table, waved it, and the hole in the ceiling instantly healed.
This shocked the little elves Alanier and Anlomir.
Bill took the wand back from the elf Alanier's hand and shook his head: "This one isn't suitable for you. Let's try another one."
He then returned to the depths of the wooden frame to continue his search for other suitable wands.
As wands passed from one hand to another in Alanier's, the wand shop was suddenly filled with raging winds, overflowing floods, and blinding light, drawing curious glances from passersby through the glass windows.
The others, who were initially panicked, have now gotten used to it.
This also explains why there's a bench inside the wand shop for customers to rest.
The waiting group simply sat on the bench, quietly watching the commotion unfold before them, all waiting to see when it would end.
Finally, Bill happily took out a red and white magic wand and handed it to the elf Alanier.
"This time it's definitely right, fourteen inches, a new branch that the treeman grew in spring. I traded a bottle of plant growth potion for a branch from the treeman to make this wand."
"The core of the wand is a hair from a Sindar high elf who was passing through here. He bought a wand from me, and I heard he was going west to Grey Harbor to cross the sea to Blessed Lands." The little elf Alanier took the wand, and instantly felt the wand merge with his arm. The wand, along with his entire being, emitted a holy, soft light, and the faint sound of elven songs surrounded him.
Everyone's eyes widened in astonishment as they watched this scene.
Bill was overjoyed and clapped his hands, saying, "That's wonderful! Mr. Alanier, I believe you will definitely be a remarkable elf in the future!"
The little elf was so embarrassed by the praise that her face turned red, but she still cherished and stroked the magic wand in her hand, reluctant to let go.
The elf couple smiled, happy that their son had received the magic wand.
Bill turned his gaze to another little boy whose eyes were already brimming with anticipation, and said with a smile, "Alright, it's your turn now, little sir."
……
There was another series of crackling sounds, even louder than the noise made by the little elf.
When Anlomir's arms ached from holding it up, he finally found his wand: twelve and a quarter inches long, with a turret branch shaft and a giant eagle feather core.
Having obtained the wand, Anlomir forgot the agony of choosing it earlier. He excitedly stroked his wand and showed it off to his elf friends.
“Alanier, look, this is my wand! It’s amazing! I feel like it’s an extension of my arm, and I can feel power surging from it through my body!”
Alanier was rather introverted, but he still held his wand with bright, sparkling eyes, and his pointed ears were bright red.
Upon seeing the two children, Aragorn and the elf couple smiled knowingly, then walked up to Bill.
“Mr. Ollivander, how much do the two children’s wands cost?” Aragorn asked.
“Cheng Hui, each wand costs 7 Galleons. Of course, this is a discount set by our lord and the Ministry of Magic for new students. If it's someone else or if the wand is damaged and needs to be replaced, it will cost more than this,” Bill said.
"Lord Duir's magnanimity is truly admirable! Not only does he open a school to selflessly teach magic, but he also gives students discounted wands," Aragorn remarked with admiration.
His wand was made by Duy himself, so he didn't need to buy it in Diagon Alley, but he had also heard that the wands at Ollivander's Wand Shop were very expensive.
Besides wizards within the territory enjoying certain discounts, elves and Dúnedan people who come from afar to buy a wand will need hundreds of gallons.
You should know that Galleons manufactured by Gringotts Bank are extremely valuable.
Five Galleons can buy a Rohan warhorse, while the price of a single wand is enough to buy dozens of warhorses.
Upon hearing Aragorn's praise, Beedle immediately showed a proud expression.
As Duy personally taught him the craft of wand making and bestowed upon him the Ollivander name, Bill was extremely loyal and devoted to Duy, and regarded him as his mentor from the bottom of his heart.
Therefore, hearing outsiders praise the lord makes him infinitely happier than hearing praise for himself.
Aragorn took out 14 Galleons and was about to hand them to Bill.
The elven couple standing nearby felt embarrassed and quickly refused, saying, "Estelle, we've already exchanged enough money from Gringotts, you don't need to pay for us!"
Aragorn insisted with a gentle smile, "No need to be so polite, Aranta. We are friends, and I haven't been back to Rivendell for a long time. It's fate that we meet here. Consider it a gift for Aranta's enrollment."
Just as the two sides were refusing to speak, Bill interrupted with a smile.
"Gentlemen, may I say something?" Bill's words drew the attention of both sides.
“My two elven friends, I have a favor to ask,” Bill said. “As you know, I am a wand maker. I can give you these two wands for free, but would you be willing to give me two strands of your hair to make the wands?”
The elf couple were caught off guard by Bill's request, but they immediately nodded in agreement.
It was just two hairs; the elf couple each plucked one hair and handed it to Bill.
