Chapter 366 Decided to Leave
Chapter 366 Decided to Leave
Frodo also has a dual lineage: his mother comes from the adventurous and pioneering Brandy Deer family, and his father comes from the Baggins family.
Moreover, from childhood to adulthood, he has shown qualities that are different from other hobbits, possessing both the kindness, simplicity, and love of life of hobbits, as well as the strength of perseverance and courage.
So when Frodo was adopted by Bilbo, he came into Gandalf's sights, and Gandalf has been watching him ever since.
Gandalf did not hide any of these actions from Dui.
Our gaze returns to the bottom of the bag.
Just as Dui was talking with Bilbo and Frodo, green flames rose again from the fireplace.
"Am I not too late?" Gandalf asked with a smile as he bent down and stepped out of the fireplace.
"Gandalf! What brings you here?" Bilbo asked in surprise.
Frodo, who was standing nearby, was also very surprised and happy to see Gandalf.
“Today is your 111th birthday, how could I possibly be absent?” Gandalf winked at Bilbo, then looked at Frodo. “Oh, Frodo, long time no see! You look even taller than last time, what a handsome young man, ha ha!”
As if remembering something, he handed a bag to Frodo and smiled at Bilbo, saying:
"I can't compare to Duir and the others in terms of craftsmanship, so I made some fireworks as a birthday gift for you. Frodo and the others can set them off later to add some excitement to your birthday party."
Frodo took the small bag, no bigger than the palm of his hand, and looked inside. He saw that there was about a whole truckload of fireworks and firecrackers, enough to keep them going for a long time.
He figured that when Merri and Pippin saw the fireworks, they would be ecstatic.
Merri and Pippin were his childhood friends. One was his uncle's son, and the other was his aunt's son. The two were lively and active, always getting into trouble and causing mischief. They were inseparable, like twin brothers.
They've also come to Bilbo's birthday party, and they're probably causing trouble at the gathering right now.
Bilbo was delighted by the arrival of his friends Dui and Gandalf. With all the guests present, he prepared to lead everyone to the meeting place.
Just as the group opened the door to Bag End while chatting and laughing, a young hobbit stood outside, about to knock.
He was a bit chubby, with an honest face and simple clothes. He looked somewhat surprised when he saw a room full of guests.
"Sam, what brings you here?" Frodo asked.
The hobbit, called Sam, looked at the room full of distinguished guests and became somewhat reserved. He replied, "The banquet at the meeting place is almost over. Everyone is waiting for Mr. Bilbo, so they sent me to call you."
Elses and Ellos both looked at the good-natured hobbit with curiosity.
Gandalf and Duy watched him with equal interest.
“Bilbo, who is this?” Dui guessed the identity of the hobbit in front of him, but still asked.
Bilbo casually introduced him: "This is Samwes James, the gardener of Bag End, who takes care of the garden."
“Sam, these are my distinguished guests: Gandalf, Duir, and his children Elses and Elros. Go to the assembly hall and arrange their seats, right next to me.”
Upon hearing Bilbo's instructions, Sam nodded quickly: "Yes, Mr. Bilbo, I'll arrange it right away!"
With that, he turned and ran quickly down the mountain.
"Hey Sam, wait for me!" Frodo shouted, then said to Bilbo, "Uncle Bilbo, I'm coming to help too!"
“Go ahead!” Bilbo nodded. “But take Elses and Ellos with you. They’re a few years older than you, and they’re all young people, so they should be able to have fun together.”
Frodo stopped and looked at Elses and Ellos, who were about the same height as him but looked like they were eleven or twelve years old, and was secretly shocked.
Although he already knew that the two elves were older than him, he was still amazed to see them in person. "Would you like to come along?" Frodo asked them.
Elseth and Ellos both looked at Dui.
Dui nodded, his smile gentle: "If you want to go, go with Frodo first, we'll come later."
Having received permission, Elses and Ellos immediately chose to go with Frodo first.
They spent most of their childhood living at Hogwarts, and the rest of their time living in the Valley and Lorien. The furthest they ever went was Hogsmeade at the foot of the mountain.
Although they are 38 years old by human standards, they are still considered elf cubs by elf standards.
So even though he had graduated from Hogwarts, he was not yet psychologically mature and was full of curiosity about the life of the hobbits.
As Elses and Elros followed Frodo and Sam down the mountain, only Bilbo, Duy, and Gandalf remained, walking at a leisurely pace.
Watching the children leave, Bilbo showed a relieved expression, then sighed deeply, his expression becoming serious.
He said to Duy and Gandalf beside him, "Duy, Gandalf, I want to pass on Bag End and my possessions to Frodo after this birthday."
Upon hearing his words, both Dui and Gandalf showed expressions of surprise.
“Bilbo, can you tell me why you made this decision?” Gandalf stopped and asked.
Dui looked at him with a puzzled expression.
Bilbo seemed to have considered this for a long time. He looked around Hobbiton under the moonlight, his eyes flashing with nostalgia and reluctance, but his expression was firm as he said:
“I have lived in Hobbiton my whole life. If it weren’t for the elixir of immortality that Duir gave me, I would probably be buried long ago, instead of being as lively and energetic as I am now.”
Therefore, I plan to hand Bag End over to Frodo in the days to come, and then leave the Shire to continue my previous journey.”
"Moreover, my ageless appearance has already attracted a lot of attention. If I stay here any longer, I'm afraid I'll cause more trouble and won't be able to continue my adventurous creative work."
Upon hearing Bilbo's explanation, Duy and Gandalf understood his thoughts.
Bilbo is indeed no longer fit to live in the Shire.
Bilbo, who drank the elixir of immortality, maintained his appearance and physique in his fifties, while his peers around him either grew old or were forever buried underground.
In this situation, the immortal Bilbo became out of place with his neighbors and relatives, and the longer he lived, the more strange looks he received from those around him.
It might even attract the malice of those who covet immortality.
Therefore, leaving the Shire is Bilbo's best option.
"So where do you plan to go after you leave the Shire?" Dui asked.
"Lord Elrond once invited me to live in the Valley of the Dead, and the scenery there is beautiful, perfect for retirement," Bilbo said with a smile.
"Of course, Duir, your Hogwarts is also very beautiful. If I were to stay there temporarily, would you be welcome?"
“Of course you’re very welcome!” Dui said to Bilbo very seriously.
"Hogwarts will always have a room for you, and you can stay at Hogwarts as long as you want! And if you wish, you can become a school administrator, just like Gandalf and the others."
