Chapter 48 The Dúnedain
Chapter 48 The Dúnedain
Dui looked him up and down, thoughtfully.
"Are you of the Dúnedain?"
Surprise flashed in the man's eyes, and he nodded slightly, "I didn't expect that someone still knew about us."
"I also heard that there is a group of rangers in the Eriador Wasteland who are secretly maintaining peace in the area."
Dewi naturally knew about the Dunedain, who were descendants of the former Numenoreans and possessed strength and lifespan far beyond that of ordinary people.
But this Dunedain ranger wanted to find him. Could it be that he was looking for trouble because he led people to rob his ancestors' tombs?
He remembered that these northern Dunedain were the remnants of the former Kingdom of Arnor, and their ancestors were buried in the Barrow-Downs.
"I wonder what you want from me?"
Dewi did not believe that the Dúnedain was merely visiting him.
Alpha didn't beat around the bush. "I heard that Wizard Duir has some ancient swords that you obtained from the wights. Could you show them to me?"
As long as the tomb robbery was not the issue, Dui readily agreed. After getting rid of the corpse demon, Dui not only gained gold, silver, and jewelry, but also the corpse demon's ancient swords.
After getting an ancient corpse sword, Alpha looked at the sword carefully, and then returned it to Dui reluctantly.
"This sword was forged using the lost art of Númenor forging. Even after thousands of years, its sharpness remains undiminished. Furthermore, the blade bears the mark of the nobility of Arnor. I believe it must have belonged to a noble of the Kingdom of Arnor."
Alpha made a request: "The art of Númenorian forging has been lost, and we have been trying to trace its origins. Wizard Duir, are you willing to trade us a few ancient swords? You can make your request, and we will do our best to meet it!"
Dui has been worrying about how to deal with these ancient corpse swords these days, and now Alpha's request is exactly what he wants.
He thought about it and immediately nodded and said, "I have dozens of ancient swords in my hand, I can give them all to you."
Alpha was delighted when he heard this. He originally wanted to be satisfied with trading a few ancient swords from Dui, but he didn't expect that Dui was willing to give them all, which made him very happy.
He quickly said, "Wizard Duyle, if you have any requests, we will satisfy you as long as we can!"
"You Dúnedain have traveled far and wide, so you must be knowledgeable. I would like you to help me collect various herbs from Middle-earth, especially those that contain magical powers. It would be best if they are alive."
Hearing Dui's request, Alpha was a little surprised and said hesitantly:
"Don't worry, Wizard Duir, we will do our best to help you collect the herbs, but these things may take time..."
Dui waved his hand and said, "It's okay. I'm not in a hurry. As long as you can help me collect as many herbs as possible, that's all I need."
Hearing this, Alpha breathed a sigh of relief and agreed immediately.
So a deal was made in the inn.
Both sides were happy. Alpha obtained enough ancient swords of the wights, and had the opportunity to trace the lost forging techniques of Númenor from the ancient swords and restore the former glory of the Dunedain.
Dui was able to use the power of the Dunedain to obtain more herbs from Middle-earth.
Herbs are the basis of potions, but many of the magical herbs in the Harry Potter world do not exist in Middle-earth.
Dui planned to first collect herbs from Middle-earth, and then after accumulating enough knowledge of potions and herbal medicine, he would find substitute herbs and copy all the magical potions one by one.
After completing the transaction, Alpha left the town overnight with dozens of ancient corpse swords he had just obtained.
Dui and others stayed at the Leaping Horse Inn for one night and set off again early the next morning.
But to Dui's dismay, almost half of the supplies the dwarves received consisted of alcohol. ————
It's another moonlit night.
Everyone camped in the wilderness, and Dui once again used his Transfiguration magic to create tents and sleeping bags.
When most people fell asleep, Dui came outside the tent, poured out a bag of moonstones and placed it in the moonlight.
Then he drew his wand and tapped each moonstone with it as if counting them.
As the wand continues to tap, magic power is continuously injected into the moonstone through the wand.
Moonstone is a good magic storage medium. After being injected with magic, the moonstone emits a light blue fluorescence and begins to slowly absorb moonlight.
In the following days, Dui took out the moonstone every night and placed it under the moon to dry.
This needs to continue until the next full moon night.
The people who were traveling with him naturally noticed Dui's behavior, but since Dui didn't explain, they didn't dare to ask.
The group had no trouble along the way and soon arrived at Fengyunding.
Weathertop is the highest and southernmost mountain in the Weather Hills, adjacent to the main east-west road. It is called Amon Sul in Sindarin, meaning "Hill of the Wind".
Weathertop was once an important frontier fortress in the Northern Kingdom of Arnor. The Númenóreans built a huge watchtower on Weathertop to house the largest and most powerful Palantir, the Amon Sul, in order to monitor the entire Eriador region and communicate with other Palantirs.
However, as the Kingdom of Arnor split and weakened, in 1409 of the Third Age, the Witch-king of Angmar sent troops to besiege Weathertop, and the Tower of Amon Sul was destroyed and razed to the ground. The Crystal of True Knowledge stored in the tower was unfortunately lost in the shift of war and sank to the bottom of the sea.
For more than a thousand years thereafter, the Tower of Amon Sul has never been rebuilt, and only a circle of circular stone walls remains, telling of its former glory.
Dui wanted to try to sign in at Fengyunding, so he suggested staying there for one night.
No one had any objection to Dui's proposal.
Arriving at the ruins of Amon Zul'tar, Gandalf looked at the ruins before him, his eyes filled with memories. He sighed and said, "The grandeur of Amon Zul'tar is still vivid in my mind, but time flies, and now I can no longer see the scene I once saw!"
After hearing Gandalf's recollection, Bilbo asked curiously, "Gandalf, have you seen the Tower of Amon Sul?"
Gandalf nodded and recalled, "The Tower of Amon Sul was magnificent and tall, a thousand feet high, rising into the clouds. It was the tallest tower in all Eriador. The Stone of True Knowledge, housed within it, could be seen from the edge of the wastes a thousand miles away."
1000 feet? Dui was surprised. That was equivalent to a height of more than 300 meters, which was as high as a hundred-story building in his previous life!
The dwarves were also very surprised. Building such a high building was a huge project for them who were good at construction.
But soon Dui no longer had the heart to sigh, because the system finally responded.
[Hogwarts Sign-in System: Locating Windcloud Peak, do you want to sign in?]
"Sign in." Dui said silently in his heart.
