Chapter 343 Mummy vs. Tank

"That's impossible! Give me the binoculars."

The colonel snatched the thermal imaging binoculars from the soldier behind him.

He gazed at the vast army of mummies in the distance, which appeared as a cold blue in the thermal imager.

"16 degrees."

"Could it be that a lot of mummies have crawled out of the ground?" Rikuku said worriedly.

"Fool! How could that be? This is just a trick by the Egyptian Zika!"

The colonel's spittle flew everywhere, sticking to his messy beard.

He was grumbling and cursing, but his feet were pacing back and forth.

All the soldiers watched him walk back and forth across the desert.

"Colonel, they are only three kilometers away from us."

"Shut up! It must be robots. They wrapped the robots in bandages and disguised them as mummies to scare us away."

"The geology ahead is unique, with not only rugged Gobi Desert but also soft sand, which the robot dog can traverse. However, among the publicly available robots, none are capable of maintaining high-speed marching in such an environment."

"That's what wasn't announced!"

"What Arabs have this technology?"

"That's China! It must have been them who gave it to them. They've given these Zika a lot of stuff! They're even burning aliens' butts with cigarette butts on the far side of the moon!"

The colonel waved his cigarette excitedly, sparks landing on his face.

"My grass!"

He covered his face in pain.

"Give the order to have drones and robot dogs carry explosives for a suicide attack. I don't believe these mummies can withstand explosives. Get me an ice pack, it's burning my pimple."

The messenger ran to the back of the column and shouted at several soldiers who were playing on their phones: "Stop filming TikTok videos and get back to work!"

A swarm of drones emerged, forming a vast, overwhelming sight.

Their shadows fell to the ground, and the robotic dogs strapped with explosives charged across the desert, stepping on their shadows.

The officers were indifferent, with only a few keeping an eye on the mummy army.

They surged toward them like zombies, showing no fear of the charging unmanned combat horde.

Rikuku held his breath and clenched his fists tightly.

"Lieutenant Colonel, there's no need to be so nervous. They're just a bunch of robots; they can't survive explosives."

The colonel leaned calmly against the car, a cigarette in his left hand and an ice pack on his face with his right.

The soldiers were also discussing it amongst themselves.

A soldier casually scrolled through videos: "Do you guys really have to watch that? It's just a bunch of robots, a clumsy trick."

"Watching the excitement isn't too much to ask; it's better than being stuck in the desert wind."

One of the soldiers looked serious and nervously bit his fingers.

Others mocked him: "You're not really afraid of those mummies, are you?"

“No, I’m sad for Sarah. I really love her, but they’re sending her to her death.”

When the soldier got emotional, he covered his face and wept.

The others looked embarrassed and apologized for their slip of the tongue, patting him on the back to comfort him.

"Sarah will be safe. Which battlefield has she gone to?"

“It’s just ahead, Sarah is my robotic dog.”

"You idiot!"

Amid the soldiers' cheers and laughter, one dissenting voice stood out sharply.

She was a female soldier.

"Am I the only one who thinks those mummies look real?"

Laughter rose and fell from the crowd.

"You really believe in that stuff? Looks like we have a horror movie fan. Hahahaha!"

“This is not funny at all. Don’t you know about the Pharaoh’s curse? Perhaps we have offended this land.”

“Are you really a Jew? We are God’s people, and all this land is our Promised Land. If Pharaoh came before me, I would beat him to a pulp.” The soldiers echoed.

The female soldier persisted in her opinion: "But they are strange creatures, and we are human. How can humans possibly defeat these things?"

The soldiers laughed again.

"How many cannons does a mummy have! Can a pile of rotting flesh withstand bombs? Have you seen 'World War Z'? In the end, it was Israel that defeated the zombies."

The man took the opportunity to put his arm around the female soldier's shoulder, making her look at the group of mummies slowly approaching in the distance.

“Look over there, those are the mummies you’re afraid of. Just wait and see how Sarah blows them to smithereens.”

Sarah's boyfriend shouted in annoyance, "Hey! That's rude of you!"

The soldiers burst into laughter again.

Amidst a joyful atmosphere, the female soldier watched as the unmanned combat group charged toward the mummy.

The sounds of explosions echoed one after another.

The towering yellow sand was blasted dozens of meters high.

The entire desert was once again shrouded in yellow sand, concealing the battlefield within the dust.

"Alas! It's over!"

The soldiers returned to their posts, enjoying themselves by making TikTok videos, playing cards, singing, and dancing.

Only the female soldier remained standing at the very front, gazing at the distant yellow sand.

People laughed at her for being foolish, but she still couldn't overcome the fear in her heart.

As she watched the yellow sand slowly dissipate, the fear in her heart became tangible at that moment.

As the sandstorm gradually receded, a group of desiccated corpses, brown like rotten wood, emerged. Their bandages and unmanned equipment sank into the yellow sand, yet they continued to stagger through the desert, getting closer and closer to him.

The female soldier felt a chill run down her spine and screamed loudly.

What's wrong with you now?!

The soldier who had just mocked him put down his phone and walked to the front of the line.

When he saw the group of mummies in the desert, his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

"This is impossible!"

On the other side, the colonel patted Rikuku on the shoulder: "Lieutenant Colonel, stop looking, it's all over. Even the best robots can't withstand these explosives. Go and rest for a while. After the rocket force finishes attacking the enemy's military facilities, we should start marching."

"Colonel, look."

Rikuku stared blankly at the desert, his voice almost limp.

"What's so interesting about a pile of wreckage?"

When the colonel turned around and saw the scene in the desert, he could only utter one sentence in astonishment: "What the fuck!"

The mummies, in large groups, resembled an army, swarming towards the troops.

"What exactly are they?"

"Who should I ask if you ask me?"

Rikuku was plunged into despair. He never imagined that humans could control mummies. What could the lizardmen possibly do against humans?
"Could they really be mummies? Even tanks couldn't withstand that level of bomb blast, right?"

The colonel paced back and forth, taking deep breaths.

"We don't have time to worry about what they are now. Get the tanks! I don't believe they can stop bombs, let alone armor-piercing tank rounds. Get the tanks!"

Eight tanks started their engines and drove across the vast, yellow sandy Gobi Desert.

The wind and sand lashed against the steel shell, and the soldiers sat inside the tanks, their chatter continuing.

"Captain, what exactly are we fighting?"

The air inside the cramped tank was somewhat stuffy.

The captain looked through the spyglass.

"Don't ask too many questions, just focus. At least I can be sure of one thing: we are not fighting against humanity."

"Isn't that just plain obvious?"

"Don't talk, focus! I don't care if it's human or not. As long as it's a living being, it can't withstand the most advanced depleted uranium armor-piercing rounds. At this distance, it can penetrate 700 millimeters of armor. Even Optimus Prime would be crippled if he came."

"Gunners, prepare! Fire!"
