Chapter 358 The Lizardmen's High-Ranking Officials Seek Treatment in Desperation

Chapter 358 The Lizardmen's High-Ranking Officials Seek Treatment in Desperation
In the dark underground city stands a massive bunker, the headquarters of the Lizardmen's central government.

In the dark office deep inside the bunker, only rows of glowing green eyes could be seen blinking.

The entire Lizardman leadership sat on polished marble chairs, with a projection behind them.

The supreme leader of the lizardmen sat at the head of the round table. He was an elderly lizardman with one eye, his right eye appearing white due to its disability, which was the best proof of his lurking in human society.

"Given the recent mummy crisis in human society, our original plan to conquer the surface within five years has been forced to be abandoned."

"Now we are facing an even more serious situation. According to the information sent back by our undercover agents, it seems that the Earthlings are about to advance underground."

"I don't understand either. How did we go from being on the offensive to being on the defensive in just one day?"

"We are now developing a new underground defense plan."

“There is already a lot of underground space, and these ruthless surface people are trying to take it from us. You are all elites of the underground world, so please feel free to express your opinions.”

A military expert offered his suggestion: "Given that we only need five years to catch up with humanity's current technological gap, and that technological development will slow down even further in a doomsday scenario, we will only catch up faster."

"My proposal is that we should abandon Zone 1 underground and retreat to deeper areas within the next five years to avoid being discovered by humans. After five years, we can launch a counterattack and completely wipe out humanity."

Upon hearing this, the lizardmen inside the room were filled with worry. They all felt that the proposal was too pessimistic and cowardly, actually abandoning the closest and most newly developed underground area. It was truly a loss of sovereignty and a disgrace to the nation.

The supreme leader asked with concern, "Are there any other options?"

The head of the Secret Service put forward his idea.

“My idea is that we should experiment first. Mummies can transform humans, but they may not be able to transform us. I suggest sending one of our own agents to the surface to be attacked by the mummies.”

“Our Special Agent Rikuku is currently on the battlefield where the incident occurred, and we can assign him directly.”

The Supreme Leader readily agreed.

"Great! Contact Agent Rikuku immediately."

They immediately established a voice connection with Agent Rikuku.

For some reason, the connection was switched from voice to video.

The projector screen was completely dark, but the lizardmen with night vision could see that Agent Rikuku was huddled in a dark cave, surrounded by rock layers, his body pressed against the soil, his khaki uniform covered in mud.

"Agent Rikuku, you've been buried alive by a mummy?"

"Director, you don't know, there's a mummy crisis here. Humans are terrifying! They can even manipulate mummies! I told you this project was a waste of time. Have the commander-in-chief and the supreme leader lost their minds? Why do they always want us involved in human wars?"

At this moment, the Supreme Leader, whose face was already green, turned even greener.

An awkward silence fell over the meeting room.

"Chief, why aren't you saying anything?"

The bureau chief feigned composure: "Agent! No complaining! The leader's orders are our lives; I must do everything in my power to complete them!"

Rikuku picked at the dirt between his fingers and said casually, "Come on, Chief, why are you suddenly using such official jargon? You're usually the one who curses the most—"

"Ah-hey!"

The bureau chief suddenly interrupted Rikuku's words with a strange shout.

"Supreme Leader, the Reptilian, don't you still have orders to issue? I'd better not waste time chatting with the agents here."

"Supreme Leader?"

Rikuku quickly looked at his smartwatch; in the dark screen, there were dozens of pairs of glowing green eyes.

He could vaguely see a one-eyed old lizardman with a very familiar face; portraits of this supreme leader could be found everywhere.

Rikuku shouted in a panic, "Supreme Leader, the Great Lizardman! I was just joking. From the bottom of my heart, I am the most obedient to the organization's decisions." He was extremely panicked. He had a premonition that he would not only be court-martialed, but also possibly be electrocuted.

He has two children who need to be sent to university in Tanzania. What will happen to them if he dies?

After a moment of silence, he did not receive the thunderous rage he had expected.

Everyone on the screen looked at him with great reverence, including the supreme leader.

He didn't know if it was just hallucinations caused by drilling too many holes.

Suddenly, they all stood up and saluted him.

"Am I in a spirit state right now? Why is everyone acting like they're bidding farewell to a martyr?"

The Supreme Leader said solemnly yet kindly, "Agent Rikuku, thank you for your contributions to the underground civilization. Now, a difficult task awaits you. Return to the battlefield and let the mummy bite you."

"What? Why would you do that?"

The Secret Service chief shouted, "You don't need to worry about it! A soldier's duty is to obey orders!"

"That's the mission of human armies. Our army's mission is to protect the mushrooms."

The Supreme Leader said earnestly, "This task is arduous, but only you can accomplish it. For the future of the Lizard People, we will remember you. I am awarding you the Golden Spider Medal ahead of schedule in recognition of your outstanding contribution."

"Isn't that a martyr's medal?"

"Your family will be taken care of by the organization. Take care, Agent Rikuku!"

Everyone in the venue shouted in unison, as if they had rehearsed: "Take care, Agent Rikuku!"

Then the video was cut off.

Rikuku curled up in the burrow and fell into deep thought for ten minutes.

With the atmosphere built up to this point, it seemed impossible not to be a martyr.

Children of martyrs are eligible for admission to Harvard University.

I don’t seem to have any reason not to be a martyr, but there’s still one question—why did I have to be bitten by a mummy?

While waiting for news of Rikuku's return, the discussion in the meeting room continued unabated.

The lizardmen finalized their latest plan.

Because their original five-year plan to retake the surface failed, they had to abandon the surface zone they had developed over nearly sixty years.

This includes an underground city cluster 6 kilometers below the surface, forcing tens of millions of people to relocate back to the surface area.

They had to abandon 672 observation stations near the Earth's surface.

This includes the tunnel beneath the Sphinx.

The lizardman students reluctantly bid farewell to the underground internet cafe that had been their home for many years.

They carried their computers, large and small, to the underground train.

The lizardman, clutching the main unit, took one last look at the empty tomb.

"Sigh, once we go back to the underground zone, we won't be able to connect to the human internet anymore. I'll never be able to see my favorite streamer again."

Just as the lizardmen high command in the conference room was waiting for news from Rikuku, the commander-in-chief of the operations command center arrived late, followed by a middle-aged officer with a resolute gaze.

"Reporting to the Supreme Leader, Major Rihaha has very important intelligence to report, which concerns the life and death of civilization."
