Chapter 13 Dreaming
Lu Sheng then realized that the fortune teller was a fraud, but fortunately, three Taoist priests exposed him.

Upon returning to the post station, he found the main hall piled high with gifts, including lambs, geese, coins, and silks for the betrothal. The princess's regalia, music, carriages, and other necessities were all readily available.

Before the wedding, someone came to pay a visit, claiming to be the groom's best man.

Lu Pei took a look and recognized the same people he had seen at the palace gate. They were his fellow townsmen from Xiangzhou and had a history with his Lu family, so he personally came to greet them.

As for what the other party's purpose is...

He also vaguely understood the reason in his heart.

A faint sense of self-satisfaction arose in my heart, and I calmly exchanged pleasantries with the other party.

……

……

Jiang She stood in the courtyard, with only Li Bai beside him and an old mountain god next to him. The others were sprawled on the ground, as if they had been given a sedative, one after another falling asleep, and Yuan Danqiu even started snoring softly.

Midday on the moon.

Li Bai's eyesight has inexplicably improved, allowing him to see in the dark. Aside from seeing some terrifying ghosts and monsters, his vision is much better than before.

He knew that these were all changes brought about by Jiang She.

This is truly divine skill...

Li Bai looked around the courtyard.

Yuan Danqiu was fast asleep, even snoring, probably because his throat ailment hadn't healed. Master Meng was also sleeping beside him, lying under the tree, with insects crawling all over his head. The hanged ghost was right above them; luckily, they couldn't see it, otherwise, if they woke up to find a ghostly tongue floating above their heads, they would probably be terrified.

Lu Da was asleep, and even the group of swindlers who were prostrating themselves on the ground were fast asleep with their eyes closed. The six or seven guests, three or five servants, doctors and apprentices, and even the sick Madam Lu who was recuperating in the room all had their eyes closed.

Enter the dream woven by the immortals.

What does it look like?

For a moment, Li Bai became somewhat curious and wanted to know what had happened in his dream.

I'd like to know too.

What will these people receive when they wake up from their dream?

"To be able to gain enlightenment in this place is truly an immense opportunity..." The old deer mountain god showed a sentimental expression, somewhat envious and also somewhat wistful.

Jiang She also looked at the crowd.

"Those who can obtain it are few and far between," he said.

A dozen or so people lay sprawled on the ground, lowly servants and celebratory guests all entering a dream together, where there is no distinction between old and young, high and low, good and evil, and they spend their lives there, but few can gain anything from it.

Rivers flow and become rivers, their waters surging and flowing daily. The world is formed by observing people, and people gradually fade into the twilight. What era is not new, and what person in the world can remain unchanged?

How many people can truly understand this after living through the ages?

If Jiang She could find even one such person, he would be overestimating his abilities.

He saw a man and a god beside him, both of whom looked on with longing.

Jiang She thought for a moment and then invited, "Taibai, Mountain God, would you two be willing to come with me to take a look?"

Suddenly, a spark ignited in Li Bai's eyes as he idly surveyed his surroundings.

Bright and piercing eyes.

……

……

A breeze rippled the spring waters of the river, and shimmering lights floated on its surface as countless houses passed by. On either side of the riverbank, rolling hills stretched out, with willow-like trees planted along their sides. A few people disembarked from their boats and followed the flow of people to the city gate.

Li Bai looked up.

It was dark here, and the moon was nowhere to be seen.

He looked at the towering city, the mountains and rivers, the vegetation and roads, all of which were different from the outside world.

"Where is this?"

"Ancient Locust Kingdom".

"I've never heard of a place called Ancient Huai Kingdom," Li Bai thought to himself. "I only thought it was something from a dream, something different from the Tang Dynasty, which makes sense."

The old mountain god carefully observed the surrounding scenery, and it was unclear what he had noticed. He stroked his beard a few times, somewhat amazed, then smiled at Li Bai's inquisitive gaze, and remained silent.

Once I entered a dream.

Jiang She mentally assessed the situation and smiled.

"Let's go see them."

He looked at the old deer mountain god, "Lu Sheng is in the east of the city, let's go take a look."

As the three walked together, Li Bai noticed that their clothes began to change as they walked, gradually becoming similar to the attire of the pedestrians on the road.

Li Bai observes the scenery along the road.

This is an earthen path, heavy with dust. The houses seem to be built in a way that is different from other places, looking strange, but interesting upon closer inspection.

A woman, head bowed, grabbed her child's hand, and dodged a carriage beside them. The child, held tightly by his mother, had his eyes glued to a nearby stall selling candied fruit, and couldn't be pulled away.

The carriage nearly grazed a butcher beside it. The butcher raised his eyebrows, about to yell and curse, but was pulled back by a friend carrying a wine bottle, who patted him on the shoulder as if to persuade him. The carriage, its lanterns swaying, rolled forward, leaving a trail of dust and two faint tracks on the ground.

There appears to be no curfew here.

Li Bai realized something.

He looked surprised.

"Everyone in this world is different, each with their own expression, could it be..."

"Did it really happen?"

The Old Deer Mountain God felt honored, but smiled without saying a word.

Li Bai pondered for a moment, glancing at Jiang She beside him, unable to speak.

To create such a grand dreamscape, with its straight road and countless pedestrians visible at a glance, each unique with their own desires and expressions.

Is there such a way of doing things in the world?

This was something Li Bai had never heard of before.

After a long while, he came to his senses and pondered the question repeatedly in his mind, but he still didn't know what to ask.

Those who make a fuss over this seem to have limited knowledge.

It doesn't quite suit the leisurely demeanor of Jiang Langjun.

It took a long time before I could finally ask a question.

Where is Master Mencius?

"And what about Yuan Danqiu? What are they doing in their dreams?"

“You’ll see them both at Lu Sheng’s place in a bit,” Jiang She said.

He seemed to know this dreamlike country and this ancient locust tree kingdom inside and out.

The journey wasn't long, and the group walked strangely, covering several meters in just a few steps. Before Li Bai and the Old Deer Mountain God could figure it out, they arrived at a building with painted beams and carved pillars.

Jiang She pushed open the door.

The lights were bright, the jade pavilion was filled with the sounds of drums and sheng, and the hall was resplendent with light.

It feels like a dream.

Li Bai saw that the courtyard was connected to the outside world, with winding paths leading to secluded spots, pavilions overlooking the water, and bright lights shining through, with laughter and playful banter constantly taking place.

Thousands of attendants, adorned with jade phoenix crowns, golden robes, and colorful gold hairpins, were so numerous they were dazzling. They roamed about, playing games and making merry, vying to tease Lu Lang. His demeanor was alluring, his words eloquent, and none could match his beauty.

This is the epitome of worldly wealth and extravagance.

Even Li Bai was taken aback for a moment.

"Is this Lu Da?"

Lu Sheng sat on the balcony, gazing at the night sky. A richly dressed attendant poured wine beside him, and sitting opposite him were five or six attendants in red robes.

Yuan Danqiu was among them.

“Danqiu Sheng…”

As Li Bai was sighing, he saw a familiar face sitting on his right, dressed in fine clothes and rich in wealth. The man placed his hand on the table, tapped it, and began to sing, which harmonized with the music playing on the zither inside the pavilion.

"Master Meng..."

"Is this what they really think?"

Jiang She thought for a moment.

"No."

"This is what they lack in this world."

Yuan Danqiu was a Taoist priest who had no desire for wealth or official rank in this life, yet in his dream he was a man seeking officialdom. Meng Haoran came from a poor family and had not entered officialdom, yet in his dream he was the Right Chancellor, ready to savor the taste of fame and fortune.

Upon hearing this...

Li Bai looked at Lu Pei on the balcony, being served by beautiful women, enjoying music and singing, and hearing the clamor of his fellow villagers.

His gaze became somewhat strange.

The old deer mountain god said from the side, "They seem not to see the three of us."

"Great kindness."

Jiang She smiled slightly, pointed at the mountain god, and then at Li Bai: "Mountain god, Taibai, and me."

"Not in a dream."

"For people of this world."

"Completely out of place in this grand dream, like an outsider. Naturally, no one notices my whereabouts."

He was also somewhat mischievous and self-deprecating.

"You can make it so that when a worm enters your house, it will disappear without a trace."

I just realized I've received monthly and recommendation votes. Thank you everyone!
