Chapter 104 Minor Dispute
Chapter 104 Minor Dispute
As Gavin finished speaking, the car happened to pass by the back of the estate and gradually approached the chicken farm.
After more than a day, the more than 40,000 chickens had long since spread out around the pasture. However, at night, most of them would rush back to the chicken farm, and only a few of the more foolish chickens would stay in the dark.
As Gavin drove here, a crisp clicking sound could be heard from under the tires from time to time.
Clearly, the hens left behind too many plump gifts nearby; there were so many eggs that it was inevitable to crush some as you walked by.
Meanwhile, from a distance, Gavin and his two companions saw Winnie, Bella, and Doris carrying boxes of eggs as they walked out of the chicken farm and loaded them onto a pickup truck not far away.
William leaned against the car, rifle in hand, one leg on the ground and the other bent, warily watching his surroundings.
Upon spotting the raptor in the distance, William peered through his binoculars to confirm the license plate and that the driver was Gavin. He then lowered his binoculars and waved to Gavin.
Gavin parked the car next to the Dodge Mammoth, got out and walked up to William, looking at the egg crates piled up on the pickup truck.
"Aren't the eggs and milk almost all stored?"
"Boss, Doris thinks we can store a little more eggs. You brought back a lot of flour today, and she plans to make some cakes and cookies, especially bread."
William replied with a smile.
Upon hearing this, Gavin nodded without saying anything.
Although he really wanted to say that there was plenty of bread in the town's shops and that there wouldn't be a shortage anytime soon.
But why should he dampen people's enthusiasm?
It will be at least another two weeks before it's time to plant potatoes. Doris currently has plenty of time, so making some fresh cakes and bread to enrich her meals is a good option.
Nearby, seeing Gavin and his group get out of the car, Winnie and her two friends approached with boxes of eggs.
Winnie was the first to ask Gavin.
"Boss, how did you guys get here from over there? Did something happen to Eugene and Steve?"
"It's nothing serious, just a minor accident. They've both gone back to work now."
Gavin gave a brief reply, then pointed to the car at Steve and the other man, and continued speaking.
"Alright, you guys go ahead with your work. We're heading over to the farmland. William, keep an eye on the surroundings."
"Okay, boss!"
William nodded solemnly, then moved his injured foot in frustration.
Gavin and his two companions returned to their car and drove the Raptor further and further away.
Watching the raptors fly away, Bella piled the egg crates on the pickup truck and leaned against the truck bed as she spoke.
"Ah, eggs, milk, chicken manure, and then growing potatoes and spinach! When I was in college, I never imagined I would be doing these things!"
"Haha, when I was in my last year of elementary school, I never imagined I'd have a day when I wouldn't have to do homework!"
Winnie chuckled and agreed, then patted Bella's bottom and continued.
"Come on, college student, don't let me, a primary school student who's about to go to middle school, look down on you."
"We have a lot to do, but none of them are too difficult, are they?"
"By the way, did we put the Explorer's clothes in the washing machine?"
At this point, Winnie began to think with suspicion, afraid that she might have forgotten something.
Bella waved her hand dismissively and spoke to Winnie.
"The clothes are probably drying right now. The washing machine at my eldest son's house is amazing. It has so many functions that I doubt I could afford it even if I paid for a year's tuition. It even saves me the trouble of drying them."
"but……"
At this point, Bella raised her right hand and slammed it heavily on the pickup truck!
She muttered and cursed at William.
"But William, do you live with that bastard Eugene? Do you dare tell him not to throw his underwear in the laundry room? Shouldn't he be the one to hand-wash his own underwear?!"
"I've already thrown his damn underwear on the bridge and hung it up. Even the eldest brother didn't let me wash his underwear. That damn red-haired bastard Eugene is even lazier than the eldest brother. Does he think I'll spoil him?!"
"Ah this..."
After being scolded by Bella, William nodded with a bitter face.
"Feel sorry."
William said helplessly.
“I didn’t know Eugene would do this. I’ll have a good talk with him tonight.”
"No...it's okay, actually...it's really not a big deal to wash it."
As soon as William finished speaking, Doris spoke up in a weak voice.
“They… I mean the explorers, they’re already very busy and in great danger. Look at Gavin just now… his gloves are covered in blood.”
"Although the underwear is indeed... not very suitable, it can't be dirtier than gloves stained with zombie blood. If you don't like it, Bella, I... I can wash them for you."
“It’s not just Eugene’s underwear, I think… the explorers should do less chores, we can help them more, we…”
"There are only two of us, Doris. With your personality, you'll definitely get bullied by your husband at home!"
Bella interrupted Doris, clearly annoyed.
Upon hearing this, before Bella could continue speaking, Winnie immediately stood in front of Bella fiercely, raised her little face, and yelled at Bella.
“My dad never bullies my mom. He’s a really good guy. I don’t want to hear that kind of talk anymore, Bella!”
"Uh...sorry, I...I didn't think before I spoke."
Seeing Winnie looking like a little wolverine, Bella quickly apologized to her.
After confirming that Winnie had stopped throwing a tantrum, Bella grabbed Doris's hand and earnestly tried to persuade her.
"Doris, what I mean is, our logistics... ugh, I really don't like this terminology. Field crew should be called explorers, and logistics should be called support crews, that's more like the wasteland!"
"In short, although we appear to have five people, in reality, only the two of us can actually do the work. William and old Bert have mobility issues, and Winnie, although very smart, is too young. So there are only the two of us!"
"Although Eugene milked the cows this morning, I specifically went to learn how to do it for a while. After all, the explorers don't milk cows every day. Those jobs will be ours sooner or later, just like raising cattle, feeding horses, and feeding chickens!"
"It's not that I don't want to wash the explorers' underwear, ah... okay, I just don't want to touch their underwear, except for the boss!"
"But what I mean is, there are only two of us, two and a half at most, and then you still have to cook. We can't do much right now!"
"Even if we have to take on more responsibility, shouldn't we wait until we have more people?"
At this point, Bella grabbed Doris's hand and continued moving the eggs while they chatted.
Hearing Bella's words, Winnie pouted and whispered.
"There are fewer people now, but there will be more in the future. When there are more logistics staff, won't there be even more field staff?"
"Yeah, you're right, Winnie. So I should just suggest to the boss that the explorers wash their own underwear!"
Bella clapped her hands as if suddenly realizing something, and skipped over to pick up the two boxes of eggs.
Behind her, Winnie paused for a moment in surprise, then turned to Doris and asked.
"Mom, is that what I meant?"
"It's alright, Bella. If you see anyone leaving underwear in the laundry room, you can leave it with me. I'll wash it when I have time after I finish the dishes tonight."
Doris, caught between Winnie and Bella, gently smoothed things over.
Bella snorted twice in dissatisfaction and continued speaking.
"Heh, underwear is a personal item that should be disposed of by the individual. If everyone's underwear is put together, even if I don't mind, they'll still be worried about getting infected with bacteria, right?"
Bella, holding the box of eggs, pursed her lips and continued speaking with a determined look in her eyes.
"Forget it, William, you don't need to talk to that bastard Eugene. I'm going to talk to the boss tonight and I'm going to get Eugene's lousy habits fixed. Who knows if he's ever had gonorrhea or something before!"
"If he just doesn't want to wash his own underwear, then let him find a wife and have her wash it for him. I'm not going to serve him!" With that, Bella angrily slammed the egg down on Pikachu.
But just before she was about to put it down, she slowed down and allowed the egg to land safely on the car.
Meanwhile, Gavin and his two companions had already crossed the fork in the road and continued to approach the planting area.
After passing the fork in the road, Madison and Nikita habitually glanced at the guns and bullets again, then looked out the window.
Gavin chuckled as he drove.
"When we get back, let's also load a truckload of flour from the cold storage. I didn't expect Doris to be so motivated lately."
"That's true. When I first met Doris, I thought she would be a huge burden, but she almost managed to do all the housework by herself."
Madison nodded in agreement and continued to praise Doris, echoing Gavin's words.
While the two chatted with Doris for a few minutes, the car gradually passed the farm machinery garage, then the large oil storage warehouse in the planting area, and passed through a large area of farmland that had not yet been tilled this year, arriving at the two small houses.
These two small houses do not appear to have more than six bedrooms, and there are no other houses within 800 meters.
So Gavin parked the car forty meters away from the house, got out decisively, and walked towards the house with the Colt python in his hand.
Madison and his companion got out of the car, but they had only taken two steps when they saw two zombies leap out of the window and charge towards them.
Having seen similar scenes many times, Old Mike was too lazy to even get an adrenaline pumping when he saw so few zombies.
He glanced at Gavin and asked.
"Boss, should I do it or should you?"
"it's the same."
Gavin responded while drawing his pistol.
But at this moment.
Blah blah blah!
The windows of the second house shattered immediately afterward, and three zombies rushed out. A total of five zombies pounced on Gavin and his group from two directions!
Upon seeing this, Gavin immediately drew his gun with his right hand and used his thumb to cock the hammer once. Just as the bullet was fired, he quickly cocked the hammer again with the heel of his left hand.
He then instantly shifted the gun's muzzle, and with his left hand, which had just struck the hammer with the base of his thumb, he further used his thumb, index finger, and ring finger to quickly turn the hammer.
To outsiders, all they could see was Gavin's left hand sweeping across the Colt python once.
boom!
It sounded like only one gunshot, but five zombies, two from the left and three from the right, fell to the ground one after another.
Behind Gavin, Nikita looked at him with amazement and said with undisguised admiration.
"Your revolver shooting is better than my dad's. If it weren't for the apocalypse, you might have won the Richardstown Cowboy Revolver Shooting Championship next year!"
"I've been practicing with a revolver for three whole months, but my left hand still gets pinched all the time. How long have you been practicing with a revolver, sir?"
"Ok?"
Upon hearing Nikita's words, Gavin opened the revolver's cylinder, poured the last bullet into his hand, and quickly inserted it back into the loose ammunition belt.
Then, he raised his hand, pulled out the revolver's automatic loading mechanism, took out a row of six bullets, and directly stuffed them into the revolver.
After loading the revolver in less than a second, Gavin tucked it back into his belt and casually replied.
"I won the Richardstown revolver speed shooting championship six times, and Steve and I held the championship for eleven years."
"In addition, I also won the standing shooting and moving rapid shooting championships in the National Revolver Rapid Fire Competition when I was seventeen and eighteen years old, respectively."
"However, after I joined the major league, I had less time to practice shooting, and my skills became rusty. The Colt Python is also more difficult to control than a regular revolver."
As they were talking, Gavin arrived at the door of the first house and grabbed the doorknob without hesitation.
pull……
Ok?
It wasn't pulled open...
This door is probably pushed inwards.
Gavin pushed again, and okay, it's locked!
Gavin then waved to Old Mike and pointed to the door.
Seeing this, Old Mai leaned closer, pointed the shotgun at the door lock, and asked.
"Boss, where should I attack to blast it open?"
"This is a wooden door. First, shoot around the middle of the lock. If that doesn't work, aim for the hinges and shoot a few times. If that still doesn't work, just blast it apart. And then... never mind, you should just kick this door, really hard!"
"okay!"
Madison immediately raised his foot and stomped hard on the edge of the wooden door.
boom!
After a loud crash, part of the old-fashioned wooden door frame snapped off, and the door itself was kicked open cleanly.
As Gavin entered, he gave Old Mike a sidelong smirk.
"Tsk tsk tsk, a kid who grew up on the streets of Chicago~"
"Boss, Chicago isn't Iraq, and besides... my cousins spoil me a lot, they don't let me do any dirty work!"
Madison gave a wry explanation, then pushed open the bedroom door and took two steps inside, gun in hand.
After confirming that the bedroom was safe, Old Mike left the bedroom and returned to Gavin's side.
While Gavin was checking the kitchen, Nikita came to a bedroom and pushed the door open.
"Roar!"
With a roar, a child zombie leaped toward Nikita, its movements so agile they were hardly those of a child!
boom!
Nikita instinctively fired a shot into the zombie's chest, sending it tumbling backward. Then, he stepped forward and fired another shot into the zombie's head.
boom!
After dealing with the zombies, Nikita immediately spoke to Gavin.
"Boss, is it possible that this is also an ambush attacker? When I arrived at the door, I didn't hear any restless footsteps from the zombies!"
When Nikita asked him questions, Gavin checked the kitchen, then came to Nikita's side, glanced at the children's bedroom, and then shook his head and nodded at the same time.
Then he said softly.
"I'm not sure, because the family installed steel bars on the children's bedroom window, so maybe it just didn't escape?"
"However, logically speaking, if the zombies really tried to break out of the room, then the glass inside the fence should at least be broken."
"So let's treat this as a case study. From now on, we must be more vigilant whenever we open any door or turn any corner or go into the shadows."
After saying that, Gavin went to the bathroom for one last look.
After confirming that there were no zombies inside the house and that no zombies had followed from the neighboring houses, Gavin waved to Madison.
"Old Mike, search the house. Prioritize getting weapons, ammunition, watches, flashlights, batteries, medicines, vitamins, and especially necessities like clothing into the car. Nikita and I will go check out the neighbors' houses."
"Okay, boss~"
Madison nodded and then began searching the house, while Gavin and Nikita went to another house to search.
There were no zombies in the house, and it was very clean, so the two decided to search for supplies nearby.
The housing conditions in the farmland were mostly similar. After Gavin and his group cleaned five houses in a row, the pickup truck was almost full.
Seeing this, Gavin picked up his binoculars, looked at the houses that were faintly visible in the distance, and shook his head.
"We'll stop moving things for now, even necessities, and we'll do that later."
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin shook his head with amusement.
Who could have imagined that in the very beginning of the apocalypse?
Even having too many supplies can become a problem for them.
