Chapter 169 The Terrifying Speculation of Dallas
Chapter 169 The Terrifying Speculation of Dallas
"Don't worry about our safety, take care of yourselves first!"
Upon hearing Steve's question, Gavin grabbed the channel and growled.
His growl quickly calmed Steve down, and as he regained his composure, pilot Sean adjusted the helicopter's angle so he could look down at the ground.
He couldn't see clearly, so he took out his binoculars to take a look, then frowned and took out his walkie-talkie to speak.
"Compared to the scenes I saw in Dallas, this is just a small-scale event. But boss, why are there such large-scale migrations of zombies?"
"This doesn't match the habits of the zombies I've seen countless times over the past few days. I've never seen such a large-scale migration before I came to the camp while I was flying in the sky!"
"indeed!"
On the ground, Gavin pressed the intercom twice and spoke.
"The unusual migration of zombies is likely related to the aggregates I killed in Richard Town."
"In short, let's talk about this after we've made sure everyone is safe. You guys find a relatively safe airport to land at first, and then hurry home!"
"Roger that!"
After receiving Gavin's order, Sean replied, then looked down at the horde of zombies and said to Steve with a wry smile.
“Steve, isn’t the horde of zombies below quite close to the airport to the east of the farm? So I’m afraid we can’t land there.”
"That's right!"
Hearing Sean's words, Steve, braving the strong winds whipped up by the opening of the cockpit, looked at the ground in the distance and said.
“The airport on the east side won’t work, so we’ll go to the resort area, where there’s another airport.”
"If the airport in the resort area is not an option, then I know of another airport that is only about 15 kilometers away from the manor, in the northwest direction of the farm, but it is not within the farm's area."
"If that airport doesn't work, then we'll land the plane in the middle of Richards Dam. There are definitely no zombies near the dam, and we just need to walk along the dam for a while to reach the edge of Lake Richards to find a car to take us home, or ask the boss to come and pick us up!"
At this point, Steve pointed in a direction.
Seeing this, Sean immediately followed Steve's directions, leaping over the astonishing horde of zombies on the ground and rushing towards the resort area.
Steve then took out his phone and tried to take pictures of the zombies on the ground.
Because it was too far away, the photo wasn't very clear, but you can still see it if you look closely.
Just as Steve was taking the picture, one of the two pilots next to him looked at the ground and patted Steve's arm, saying something.
"Steve, you're exaggerating a bit. In my opinion, there are only about 140,000 zombies on the ground at most, not even reaching several hundred thousand!"
“Nicholas, tens of thousands is already a lot, and I haven’t studied statistics, so I can only get a rough estimate!”
Steve replied to the pilot, Nicholas Walker, then put away his phone and continued speaking to Gavin.
"Boss, this is Steve. I've assessed the situation and think we should at least head towards the resort area."
"I understand. Contact me immediately if any problems arise!"
After responding, Gavin glanced back at his men following closely behind him, then continued to accelerate.
After running for more than three minutes, Gavin finally returned to the vicinity of the manor.
He didn't stop outside the manor, but rode the horse directly into the garage, instantly creating a total of five horses in the garage.
As Gavin dismounted, several family members arrived. Thomas, along with Manus and his group, looked at Gavin with tense expressions.
Of course, Thomas remained as calm as ever, but his crew needed some reassurance.
Gavin then nodded to everyone and smiled.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, guys. Hopefully, our horses won't make too much manure in the garage."
"Ha, that's not important. Your safety is the most important thing, and we have to get used to living with horse manure."
Thomas responded to Gavin, who then patted Thomas's arm and casually asked him a question.
"Eugene and the others are still in the west?"
"That's right, they've been keeping an eye on the horde of zombies over there."
Thomas nodded, and Gavin immediately strode towards the corridor with floor-to-ceiling windows on the west side of the manor.
A moment later, at the west corridor.
Seeing Gavin arrive, Eugene put down his binoculars, pointed into the distance, and said.
"Boss, look for yourself, there are quite a lot of zombies there, but definitely not as many as the wave Steve and the others saw."
"Hehe, it's normal that our vision is not as good as theirs, after all, they live in the Tianshan Mountains."
Gavin responded, then took out his binoculars and looked towards the horse farm.
Taking this opportunity, Old Feng said a few words to Martin, and then quietly left Gavin's group.
He needed to reassure his wife; damn it, even though he had just returned, he could guess how worried she was.
After a brief observation, Gavin put down his binoculars and let out a sigh of relief.
"Fortunately, it's about what I expected."
Gavin said with a relaxed expression.
"Although there are many zombies and they are quite close to us, they are still quite a distance away. Although some zombies are bound to remain near the horse farm, the number should not be large, so there is no need to worry."
"What I'm concerned about is where these large hordes of zombies came from, as this information will have a significant impact on our future."
At this point, Gavin reached into his pocket, pulled out a map, and laid it directly on the ground.
He knelt on one knee, pressing down on the map, and raised his hand to point out details on the map of central Texas.
Seeing this, everyone quickly gathered around Gavin.
Gavin then pointed to Richardstown and the estate, and then drew a large circle around the estate, encompassing several cities.
"Could the horde of zombies closest to the manor come from Cannonball City and Burbank?"
Gavin pondered for a moment and then asked the others.
After a moment of silence in response to Gavin's question, Martin pointed to another spot and thoughtfully replied to Gavin.
“Boss, if the core of everything is indeed the Richard Town Aggregate, then the zombies from Cannonball City and Burbank who want to get to Richard Town are more likely to pass through Chambers Reservoir, which is Lake Richard.”
“That’s right, boss. There’s no trace of our manor on the straight line between Cannonball City and Burbank and Richard Town. The straight line connecting the two passes over the lake.”
Eugene picked up where Martin left off, pointing to the map as he continued speaking to Gavin.
"In my opinion, the group of zombies closest to us is more likely to have come from the town of Malakov!"
"But the town of Malakov only has a few thousand people, while this zombie horde probably has more than ten thousand!"
Not far away, Adriana instinctively retorted to Eugene.
As a local living in a nearby city, Adriana didn't know the exact population of each small town in the area, but she had a general idea of the numbers.
When faced with Adriana's questioning, Eugene was not as polite as he was to Gavin. He immediately raised his head in displeasure, grimaced, and cursed at Adriana.
"You brainless idiot, why don't you take a look at the map near Malakov? There are at least seven or eight small towns, starports, cabins, Trinidad, and Eustas County a little further away!"
"These small towns, although most of them only have eight hundred to a little over a thousand people, if they were to come together, wouldn't they become what they are now!"
At this point, Eugene emphasized the town he was referring to with his finger!
While frantically tapping on the map, Eugene turned to Gavin and asked a question.
"Boss, do you think what I said is possible? Anyway, I think the zombie horde at the horse farm is probably what I described, I..."
"Wait a minute, Eugene, I've suddenly thought of something more important!"
While listening to Eugene's words, Gavin suddenly thought of something, so he immediately shifted his attention from Malakov and the vicinity of Starport to the city of Athens!
He raised his hand and pointed to Athens, then asked a question.
"Adriana, do you know approximately how many people live in Athens?"
"Athens? I don't know, maybe around 20,000 or 30,000?"
"That's right, damn it, there aren't even hundreds of thousands of people in Athens. It only has twenty or thirty thousand at most. So what the hell is this horde of at least hundreds of thousands of zombies that Steve and the others saw? Where did they come from?!"
As he spoke, Gavin raised his hand and drew a circle around the city of Athens on the map, then continued in an increasingly impassioned tone.
"Do you think I don't know what Athens is like? This area is all agricultural and pastoral, there's not a dense population at all!"
"Even if the zombie horde in Athens brings along zombies from dozens of surrounding small towns, they could never exceed 100,000. At most, they would only have 40,000 to 50,000 at most!"
"So, the zombie horde that Steve and the others saw couldn't possibly have come from Athens. The only place near us, especially in the direction from which the zombie horde originated, that could gather a zombie horde of tens of thousands, is the vicinity of Taylor City. And Taylor City is about 120 kilometers away from Richard Town!"
At this point, even Gavin couldn't help but raise his voice, and cold sweat instantly poured down his back.
But Eugene and the others beside him only paused for a moment before nodding.
“You’re right, boss. So the zombie horde near the horse farm is from Athens. It looks like there are at least tens of thousands of them, which matches the population of the area around Athens!” Martin said with a smile.
“That’s right, the boss is right. Eugene, what nonsense are you spouting? Luckily, I don’t need to listen to you!” Adriana sneered.
Eugene, with a pained expression, rubbed his hair and nodded to Gavin with an awkward smile.
"Tsk tsk, no wonder you're the boss. Boss, you're right, you're right!"
"What the hell are you talking about? What are you all so relaxed about!"
Seeing the relaxed expressions on the others' faces, Gavin slammed the map down in frustration, then continued to berate Eugene and the others.
"Stop fucking sucking up to me and focus on the important thing, the important thing is the fucking distance!"
"Taylor City is about 120 kilometers away from Richard Town. What other cities on the map are about 120 kilometers away from Richard Town?"
"Damn it, take a good look at what terrifying cities are within this distance, and make sure you do!"
"Look here, here, look fucking here, look at Dallas!!!"
While cursing, Gavin pointed his index finger heavily at Dallas!
His words sent chills down the spines of everyone present!
How many people still remember Gavin's home and how far it was from Dallas?
That's right, Gavin's home is only about 140 kilometers away from Dallas!
While Richard Town is nearly 50 kilometers away from Gavin's estate, it is also closer to Dallas on the map than the estate is to Dallas!
Whether it's Taylor City or Dallas City, they are almost equidistant from Richard Town. Even if there is a difference, it wouldn't be as much as ten kilometers.
So, if the zombies in Taylor City are indeed attracted to the aggregates...
The zombies in the Dallas metropolitan area would also be very likely to be attracted to the aggregate.
The number of zombies in Dallas is a terrifying million!
It's not even a million; it's between three and five million!
"Fuck, fuck fuck fuck!!!"
Upon hearing this, Eugene was completely stunned, and he suddenly jumped up from the ground.
While slapping his thigh hard, Eugene kept cursing.
"Impossible, absolutely impossible, fuck! The zombies from Dallas couldn't possibly have gotten this far. We haven't had enough of our good life yet, you piece of shit!"
"Shut the fuck up, Eugene. Stop spouting nonsense about impossibilities. Even if the worst has happened, the fact that we're still alive proves that the outcome isn't bad enough. Let's hear what the boss has to say!"
Martin interrupted Eugene with a string of curses, then looked at Gavin.
At the same time, everyone around looked at Gavin with trepidation.
Gavin's prediction terrified them, because compared to the enormous zombie horde in the Dallas metropolitan area, the number of zombies in the Dallas metropolitan area was truly enormous! And Gavin…
Meeting a series of anxious gazes, he remained calmly silent for a few seconds before picking up the walkie-talkie.
Meanwhile, on the helicopter.
Since receiving Gavin's warning and discovering a large horde of zombies.
Flight instructor Sean's helicopter, guided by Steve, deviated from its original flight path and instead of entering the farm area directly, flew from outside the farm towards the resort area.
But just about seven minutes after they took off, pilot Paul Wellington, who had been observing the ground, couldn't help but speak up on the flight intercom.
"Instructor, Steve, there's something on the ground. You'd better take a look to the right of the flight path, near Chambers Reservoir!"
"what?"
Upon hearing this, Sean ignored it and quickly prepared the plane to slow down and hover.
Steve and pilot Nicholas picked up their binoculars and looked in the direction Paul had indicated.
"Wait, is the place you're talking about near Joe's Pizza? I think I see it!"
After a brief search, Steve couldn't help but widen his eyes and look down at the road.
There was a motorhome speeding around there!
Upon hearing Steve's words, Paul hesitated for a moment before responding.
"I have no idea what Joe's Pizza is, but if you're talking about a pizza place in a residential area southwest of Chambers Reservoir, then that's probably what I meant by 'found,' a campervan, right?"
After speaking, Paul waited for Steve's reply, while Steve swallowed hard and looked at the RV speeding by on the ground as he responded.
"That's right, that's the resort we built in the resort area. There are about thirteen similar resorts built around the lake. Joe's pizzeria is located in this resort, which is called Grimm's Toe."
"Damn it, these survivors couldn't have come at the worst possible time. But I have to tell the boss anyway. We might need to find a way to contact them. Get ready!"
"understand!"
Upon hearing Steve's words, pilots Paul and Nicholas exchanged a glance and then laughed simultaneously.
As he laughed, Paul spoke to Steve.
"Believe me, Steve, no matter how much of a jerk we soldiers are, if we don't have even the slightest bit of self-sacrifice, we will never wear this uniform."
"Therefore, if conditions permit, we do not want to abandon any civilians."
"That's right!"
In the cockpit, Sean laughed and gave a thumbs up, then shouted to Steve.
“Steve, those are my students. Everything they know is taught by me, and they think the same way, so what they say is what I mean.”
"Report what you've seen to Commander Gavin. If he needs us to rescue the survivors, none of us will refuse the risk, because putting on a uniform is a risk in itself!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Sean locked onto the RV speeding across the ground, then lowered his altitude slightly and followed the vehicle.
However, they were so high off the ground that the RV didn't even notice them.
Steve breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing the three pilots' responses, and then prepared to take out his walkie-talkie.
But just as he reached out, their walkie-talkie suddenly rang.
"Sean, Steve, this is Gavin. How much fuel do you have left in your plane?"
"Huh? Boss! Are you God? How did you know we'd made a discovery?!"
Sean immediately pulled out his walkie-talkie and replied in surprise.
"Don't worry about our fuel, we can fly at least another 500 kilometers. So, any instructions? Do we need to rescue anyone?"
"Save people? Save who?"
Inside the manor, upon hearing the reply over the walkie-talkie, Gavin instinctively paused for a moment, then immediately guessed what it meant.
So he frowned and asked into the walkie-talkie.
"You've encountered survivors, haven't you? Damn it, I'm not God. I don't know what you've discovered, but we've made a new discovery that requires you to run around the area again!"
"Roger that, we're all set, but you'd better hear our findings first, sir. We've spotted a speeding RV at Toe Resort, southwest of Lake Richards, heading towards Chambers Dam!"
"Toe Resort?"
Inside the manor, Gavin paused for a moment, then raised his hand and pressed it against a spot near a resort on the map, continuing to ask the helicopter.
"Are you talking about Grimm's Toe Resort, which is also known as Resort Number Eight?"
"That's right, boss, this is Steve. The survivors are running like mad on Highway 416 near Grimm's Toe Resort!"
"They will then have two choices: one is to turn left at the end of the road, which would allow them to cross the Chambers Dam and continue towards the farm!"
"Or they might take the highway we use to Richards and continue heading towards Richards!"
At this point, Steve couldn't help but curse.
Meanwhile, in the manor, Gavin couldn't help but curse.
The highway leading from the estate to Chambers Reservoir is Highway 287.
Gavin and his group took Highway 488 to turn onto Chambers Dam.
The 416 road that Steve mentioned ends at 488, which is the road that Gavin and his group often took to Richard Town.
At this point, if survivors appear on Route 416, there are only two possible outcomes!
One possibility is that survivors might walk onto the road leading to the manor and then encounter a large number of zombies blocking their way!
Another scenario involves a survivor who ventures into the vicinity of Richard Town and then finds himself surrounded by zombies almost without realizing it!
Thinking of this, Gavin took a deep breath and then quickly said to Steve.
"Steve, are there any signs of zombies appearing below?"
"No, boss. If I had, I wouldn't have told you about it!"
Steve turned on the intercom and emphasized to Gavin.
Upon hearing this, Gavin suddenly stood up. As he walked toward the restaurant and lobby, he continued speaking into the intercom.
"If not, descend immediately and try to contact and guide the survivors on the ground. Point them in the right direction. The area around the manor is not safe. You'd better lead them across the dam and then drive onto the grassland to avoid the zombies!"
"I will have someone keep watch from a safe location near the manor for a while, and try to spot them and guide them to the camp."
"As for you guys, I have another important matter to tell you!"
"Remember this: I want you to fly towards Dallas, and at the same time, observe the zombie situation along the way as much as possible. I suspect that the zombie horde you saw earlier rushed from Taylor City towards Richard Town, and the distance from Taylor City to Richard Town is similar to the distance from the Dallas metropolitan area to Richard Town!"
"So, guys, I'm worried that there might be some unrest or even a migration of zombies in the Dallas metropolitan area!"
"Fake!!!"
Upon hearing this, the entire helicopter exploded.
Everyone in the helicopter, including Steve, was cursing, because the reminder immediately brought to mind the terrifying number of people in the Dallas metropolitan area!
"Damn it, we're in big trouble!"
The pilot, Nicholas, was extremely frustrated and began to curse.
"There are too many people in Dallas, and these past few days have been filled with the damn Cowboys' championship celebrations. The Dallas metropolitan area, which is only a few million people, is packed with out-of-town revelers!"
"There are probably eight to ten million people, or even more, in Dallas right now. We're fucking doomed!"
"Don't talk nonsense, damn it, don't fucking talk nonsense, we have to go and see for ourselves!"
In the cockpit, Instructor Sean nervously interrupted Nicholas, then swallowed hard and spoke to Steve.
“Steve, you heard that too, we don’t have much time left. I’m going down right away. You contact the RVs on the ground as much as possible and shout to them through the helicopter’s walkie-talkie!”
"OK, I'll hurry, then we'll fly to Dallas and take a look!"
Steve yelled back at Sean.
The helicopter descended rapidly, heading straight for the speeding RV.
Once the helicopter was low enough, the RV finally spotted them. The RV then visibly swayed left and right a few times before slowing down to about 40 kilometers per hour.
At the same time, Steve grabbed the handle, bent down and went out of the cabin, and shouted into the RV through a megaphone.
"Survivors, we are the rescue helicopter from Gavin Survival Camp. Please do not panic. We are a helicopter from Gavin Survival Camp."
"We'll ascend shortly to guide you. You'd better follow our direction, as there are more than one horde of zombies migrating in the vicinity!"
"If you agree, turn on your hazard lights. I will increase the altitude to guide you. If you agree, turn on your hazard lights!"
"Fuck, we agree, we agree!"
Inside the RV, a Black woman who looked to be at least forty years old suddenly leaned out of the window and shouted at the helicopter.
While she was shouting at the helicopter, in the passenger seat of the RV, one of the two children huddled together, a white child pushed aside the other black child and spoke to the black woman.
"Auntie, didn't you hear what they said? If you agree, turn on the hazard lights!"
"Oh yes, yes, hazard lights, hazard lights, oh my god!"
After being reminded by the white child, the Black woman hurriedly turned on her hazard lights.
Seeing this, Steve breathed a sigh of relief and then raised the height to lead the way for the RV.
Watching it fly high in the sky, it guided everyone to turn right at the end of the road, then led them to turn left and then left again, and then right once more.
After making several turns, the helicopter suddenly stopped.
Immediately afterwards, the helicopter descended and continued shouting at them.
"There are no signs of zombies around here yet. You wait here. The legendary cowboy Gavin King is looking for you. I have already shown him your location. You are only about six kilometers away from the manor!"
"We will stay with you in heaven until you meet with Boss Gavin."
"Please don't be nervous, and don't worry, we'll be with you!"
At this point, Steve looked around and then quickly reminded Sean to increase the altitude.
Their helicopters can't stay on the ground for too long; that would be too dangerous.
Meanwhile, towards the manor.
Gavin, with a revolver slung over his shoulder and a gun on his back, led Martin and Eugene onto their horses.
As he mounted his horse, Eugene continued to curse and swear.
"Damn it, you're a lunatic! You're going out looking for people at a time like this!"
"Haha, buddy, aren't you a lunatic too? You're still willing to come out with me at a time like this!"
Hearing Eugene's curses, Gavin smiled, shook the reins, and, amidst the worried looks of his men, was the first to ride away from the garage.
Eugene followed Gavin's footsteps, cursing loudly as he lifted his head.
"Yeah, I'm fucking crazy too, because I know you're right, you're always right, you bastard, so right that I can't even bear to let you die before me!"
"If you don't save people today, then if I'm trapped outside, is it possible you won't save me either?"
"Screw it, I'll never be an angel, but I don't mind buying myself insurance, using my life and my skills to buy it!"
"Let's go, boss!"
