Doomsday America
Chapter 74 Night
Chapter 74 Night
Around 7 p.m., just as Winnie was diligently wiping away the bloodstains with a rag.
Gavin's voice suddenly came through the walkie-talkie.
"Let's meet at the restaurant for dinner! What drinks would you like? The bar has some!"
Upon hearing the sound, Winnie jumped up and anxiously called out to Bella, who was washing rags behind her.
"Good heavens, we're so slow! Dinner's already ready!"
"I know, I know, but none of us have ever done any work, God!"
Bella replied sullenly, and wrung the rag in her hand hard.
Then, a piece of white stuff was twisted out of the cloth and stuck to Bella's finger.
The sticky, slippery feeling made Bella's fingers go numb, and she quickly looked at her hands.
That's...that's...
Brain!
"vomit!!!"
"Don't spit it into the bucket again!"
Winnie is going crazy. Bella throws up whenever her head is touched, and she's even vomited into the bucket more than once.
The Gavin family had very good tools; they should have been able to clean up in no time.
But Bella's repeated vomiting increased the workload countless times over!
And so it went until everyone was seated at the dining table.
Winnie was still glaring at Bella with dissatisfaction.
And Bella...
Looking at the mashed potatoes on the table, she suddenly felt dazed and then quickly ran away to gag.
Looking at Bella retching and Winnie looking displeased, and then at the bloodstains on their bodies.
Gavin and the others exchanged glances, then couldn't help but laugh.
The atmosphere at dinner was really great. Although there were still a bunch of dead zombies outside, everyone was laughing and having a good time. Gavin even had a couple of drinks.
This is exactly what Gavin hoped for: the dead have their own world, but the living should also have their own lives!
After dinner, Bella and the others volunteered to do the dishes, while Winnie ditched Bella and stubbornly dealt with the remaining bloodstains by herself.
In the hall, Gavin, with a cigarette dangling from his lips, looked at the diligent young man and couldn't help but nod.
Beside him, Eugene, clutching a cigar, arrogantly puffed out smoke and casually said to Gavin.
"Boss, you've relaxed enough, right? Tell me about the work we need to do tomorrow!"
"Let's talk about tomorrow's work after we get up tomorrow."
Gavin waved his hand and laughed.
Want to guess what time you'll finally fall asleep tonight?
"Who would guess that? I'm sure I'll sleep very well!"
Eugene chuckled dismissively, then walked away with his cigar.
Gavin didn't assign rooms to everyone. Anyway, there were plenty of rooms in the house, so as long as they lived in roughly the same area, they could gather together in case of danger.
Gavin himself didn't go back to his bedroom on the third floor, but instead chose a room on the second floor with everyone else.
After putting the gun back in the room, Gavin simply sat in the second-floor corridor, gazing silently at the night sky.
After Doris finished clearing away the dishes, she joined the cleaning work.
With her help, the three of them worked until 8:30 p.m. to clean up the blood that had covered the manor.
After finishing her work, Winnie excitedly wiped the sweat from her forehead and skipped over to Gavin, spinning around in circles.
Seeing this, Gavin beckoned to her, and Winnie quickly came closer.
So Gavin rubbed her head and laughed.
"Thanks, kid."
"No need, no need, hehe, your house is really awesome, boss!"
Winnie excitedly ran off and went into Doris's room, refusing to come out.
Bella was left standing alone in front of the door, confused and unsure whether she should go in.
Noticing Bella's absent-minded look, Gavin sat on a wooden chair by the corridor and called out to her from a distance.
Seeing this, Bella came to Gavin's side, holding onto the armrest and staring blankly.
Seeing Bella lost in thought, Gavin sighed and offered some words of advice.
"If I were you, I might choose to sleep with Doris and the others."
“You are different from the others. After all, Winnie and Doris have each other, William and Eugene support each other, and Madison and I have been teammates for many years.”
“But you and old Bert, you only have yourselves.” “But old Bert is old, he’s long been used to being alone.”
"And you, consider my suggestion."
“Winnie isn’t a bad person, you two will get along well.”
After saying that, Gavin got up and went back to his room, leaving Bella alone in the hallway, lost in thought.
After a long while, she finally nodded and then knocked on Doris's door.
The door opened quickly, and Winnie peeked in, made a face at Bella, and pulled the hesitant Bella into the room.
Bella, Doris, and Winnie stayed together, while old Bert and Madison each chose a room.
As for Eugene and William, Eugene took William to the shooting range for a while before going back to rest.
After taking a nice bath, Eugene changed into luxurious pajamas and sprawled on the bed, looking blissfully at William rubbing his ankles in pain.
Noticing Eugene's gaze, William gave a wry smile and cursed.
"You're doing really well; you're almost becoming a key player in the team."
"Of course! I took down over 120 zombies all by myself! That's a fucking 120!"
Eugene said to William with utter arrogance.
Upon hearing this, William disdainfully gave him the middle finger and cursed.
"If you keep exaggerating like this, the number of zombies that have died on the farm will reach thousands. When I first heard you talk about this, the number I heard was only in the nineties!"
"Don't worry about the details. Damn it, the future isn't the time to worry about details."
Eugene replied, then picked up the remaining cigar and took a deep drag of smoke.
Looking at Eugene shrouded in smoke, William sighed and rubbed his ankle as he spoke.
“I should have been with you; I should have helped.”
"Alright, stop getting sentimental. If you want to help, you'll have your chance sooner or later!"
Eugene interrupted William and started yelling at him.
"Look out the window, buddy, what's that? That's the job we'll be doing in the future."
"Clean up corpses, patrol and inspect, recruit manpower, farm, raise cattle, milk cows, build fortifications. From what the boss said, he also wants to take back the power plant. There's so much work that we can't possibly finish it all!"
"If you're so keen on that, wait until your foot is better before you get busy. I won't be treating you like a little devil then, cousin!"
Eugene exhaled a puff of smoke, then set his cigar aside.
Then, he took out his most familiar revolver, gripped the handle, and pressed the pistol against the pillow.
"Don't bother me, I need to sleep. Only a good night's sleep can help me shoot properly, buddy!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Eugene, ignoring the lights, closed his eyes and fell asleep.
Watching Eugene's figure and listening to his snoring, William rubbed his ankles for a while, then lay down on the bed, but couldn't fall asleep for a long time.
It wasn't until five or six in the morning, when sunlight streamed through the window and fell into his eyes, that he finally sat up from his daze.
"call!"
William didn't know if he was asleep or not; all he knew was that his back was covered in cold sweat.
He vaguely saw his father dragging half of his body and grabbing his neck.
Just as William was breathing heavily, on the bed not far away...
Eugene, clutching his pistol, lay there and suddenly spoke.
"Even if you just go take a shower, please don't disturb my sleep, okay!"
"You woke up six times last night, and you were even talking in your sleep! You're fucking awful!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Eugene rolled over.
William scrambled to his feet and laboriously made his way to the bathroom.
After a quick rinse, William got dressed, grabbed his gun, and left the bedroom for the living room.
But as soon as he sat down on the sofa in the hall, he saw Gavin with two dogs, wandering near the river outside the manor.
Meanwhile, outside the manor.
Gavin rested his left hand on the gun handle at his waist and walked along the river that ran between the old and new houses toward the road and forest in the distance.
Barry and Camorra followed him to a flowerbed by the roadside to relieve themselves.
Seeing that the dog had finished relieving himself, Gavin found a shovel, scooped up the dog poop, and threw it into the nearest trash can.
Then, he put down the shovel and led the dog to the door of the old house.
Leaning against the historic stone pillars, Gavin took out a cigarette and gazed into the distance at the deep forest area.
If the person who escaped into the forest is still alive.
So at least today or tomorrow, he'll notice the changes in the manor area, right?
