Chapter 97 There are no more wounded now.
"Wow……"

Upon hearing Nikita's words, Gavin couldn't help but nod, but didn't say anything more.

Since Nikita was willing to risk going to find medicine for the bandaged man, there must have been other reasons, such as accidental injury, for her to injure him.

Gavin didn't like to ask questions, so he instead placed the back of his hand on the bandaged man's forehead.

After feeling the temperature, Gavin looked up at Steve and Madison and said something.

“This guy’s fever hasn’t gone down. Find something you can carry him on, get him into the car and take him back to the farm. Hopefully, old Bert can save his life.”

"He won't die, right?"

Before Steve and Michael could reply, Nikita spoke worriedly to Gavin.

“Yesterday afternoon, I saw him running on the pasture while I was hiding at home. I thought he was sick like the others. He didn’t say anything at the time, and just kept running from the pasture toward my house.”

"He ran incredibly fast, even scaling the wall and jumping into my yard, so I shot him. Only after he was shot did he start swearing. I only realized he wasn't one of those undead when I heard him swearing..."

Well, although Gavin didn't ask, the person involved was clearly preoccupied, and she explained the reason herself.

After Nikita finished explaining his reasons, he fell silent again.

Gavin swallowed hard and quickly emphasized to Steve and Madison.

"Did you hear that, guys? From now on, when we investigate other manors, we must use the main entrance!"

“That’s right, we’ll go through the front door!” Steve nodded emphatically.

"Luckily we didn't climb over the wall!" Madison agreed wholeheartedly.

Listening to the interaction between the three, Nikita's face turned even paler.

Gavin waved his hand dismissively.

"Alright, go find the things to carry him, and get this guy away from here quickly."

"His injuries shouldn't be this serious, but I don't understand his condition. Could it be tetanus?"

At this point, Gavin raised his hand and pressed the bandaged man's philtrum, causing the man's breathing to become heavier.

Gavin then attacked the bandaged man's weakness.

"Well……"

After letting out a muffled groan, the bandaged man opened his eyes and glared angrily at Gavin.

Meeting the bandaged man's gaze, Gavin grinned and said.

"Ha, I knew this guy was conscious. His wounds are all external, and they don't look or smell rotten. How could he have lost consciousness?"

"So, buddy, how about you introduce yourself, or thank us three little angels?"

As he spoke, Gavin patted his chest.

Steve and his companion left the bedroom to search the manor for something that could be used to carry people.

Seeing that the two of them had walked away, Nikita came to Gavin's side, squatted down and said to Gavin.

"Gavin, is there really any hope for him?"

“He was lucky. Your shot was a bit off, so it probably didn’t hit his internal organs. Old Bert will definitely have a way.”

At this point, Gavin suddenly remembered that Nikita and the other man probably didn't know who old Bert was, so he continued to explain.

"By the way, old Bert is our farm's... doctor."

Gavin ultimately did not reveal the identity of the old veterinarian.

Upon hearing the word "doctor," Nikita visibly relaxed, and some color returned to her pale face.

"That's fine, that's fine..."

She sighed and squatted down, hugging her knees, actually managing to squat in the Asian squatting posture.

Gavin found it quite strange, since it's said that Western women don't know how to squat like Asian women.
After glancing at Nikita's curled-up legs, Gavin turned to look at the wounded man, only to see that the man's eyes were fixed on Nikita's direction.

Seeing this, Gavin patted the injured man's chest and offered a word of comfort.

"Whatever you want to say, wait until you're better. Don't glare at me now, you... um?"

Gavin felt something was off as he spoke. The way the injured man looked at Nikita didn't look like the way a plaintiff looked at a defendant!
Gavin followed the injured man's gaze to Nikita and immediately noticed that as Nikita squatted down and hugged her knees, her cleavage was slightly exposed from under her loose hoodie due to the knees pressing against her.

Gavin looked at the wounded soldier again, unsure... Good, the wounded soldier's eyes were very determined.

Then take another look at Nikita... Great, her cleavage is even whiter than her face.

pop~
Gavin tapped the wounded man's forehead with one finger and laughed as he scolded him.

"What the hell are you looking at? Will looking at it a few more times help improve your blood circulation?"

Upon hearing Gavin's words, the injured man's face immediately darkened. Nikita, belatedly realizing what was happening, lowered her head and followed the injured man's gaze to her cleavage.

After a brief silence, Nikita looked up coldly and punched the wounded man in the ribs.

Snapped!
Gavin reached out and grabbed Nikita's wrist to stop him, pondering the reason for Nikita's sudden change in attitude, and tentatively asked.

"Do you know?"

"I don't know him, but he seems to know me!"

Nikita withdrew his fist and looked coldly at the injured man.

Upon hearing this, Gavin nodded and continued to probe with a smile.

"That's right. You're all probably kids from nearby farms, so it's normal that you know each other."

“But I really don’t know him. My dad took me back to the farm after my mother passed away. I’ve only lived here for less than three months!”

Nikita shook his head in denial, then hesitated for a moment before continuing.

“I’ve only left the house once in the past few months, which was around Christmas when I went with my dad to a Native American settlement to buy a Christmas tree.”

"He might have seen me there once, but who knows what he's been thinking? He'd already said a lot of nonsense to me before you guys even arrived!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Nikita glared coldly at the wounded man.

But when she glanced at the wounded soldier's injury, she ultimately turned away in silence.

But after she fell silent, the wounded man on the bed spoke up instead.

The wounded soldier looked at Nikita, who had stood up, and suddenly spoke.

“Nikita, I fell in love with you the moment I saw you. God’s punishment turned everyone into beasts, but we are all still alive and well. You even almost killed me. This is our destiny!”

"You owe me your life now, and you must repay me, no matter what, even if it means sacrificing yourself..."

pop~
Before the young man could finish speaking with a strong voice, Gavin sensed something was wrong, so he raised his hand and gave the young man another sharp rap on the head.

As he slammed the wounded soldier's head shut, Gavin smiled and said to him.

"You didn't say a word when I arrived, but you're quite talkative now. Am I not worthy of your company?"

Upon hearing Gavin's words, the wounded man's expression froze for a moment, then he looked at Gavin with a mixture of tears and laughter, and whispered something.

“Gavin King, of course I know you, the most greedy jackal in the Richards Lake District. You used money, guns, and your damned reputation to threaten and take away the land that hundreds of ranchers cherished for generations!”

“My father died before this apocalypse. He went to sleep every night worrying about you. What else do you want to take now? Your greed is endless. God will punish you!”

At this point, the wounded man's gaze toward Gavin quickly shifted from anger to... a slight calming down, while still retaining a hint of nervousness.

Gavin narrowed his eyes at this unusual look, and then he examined the wounded soldier and spoke.

"Look at what you're saying, as if not a single penny of the hundreds of millions of dollars I've spent on land acquisitions over the past ten years has ended up in anyone's pocket."

"And if I were you, I wouldn't be eyeing other women's breasts just days after your dad died in the apocalypse, let alone have time to flirt with women!"

Gavin's voice was a little cold, but the wounded man's gaze toward him was even colder.

Just as Gavin finished speaking, the wounded man's right hand suddenly moved inside the blanket covering his upper body, lifting up a section of the blanket.

In that instant, watching the blanket being stretched out like that…

And there's the angle at which the wounded soldier's arm is moving rapidly toward him...

Gavin swiftly turned to the side, moving to the head of the bed in the blink of an eye. He gripped the wounded man's neck tightly with his left hand, while his right hand slipped under the covers along the man's shoulder, grabbed his forearm, and lifted it toward the ceiling.

boom!
The bullet hit the ceiling.

The Smith & Wesson Model 29 that the wounded soldier was holding was also exposed in the wake of the gunshot.

Gavin grinned as he looked at the revolver and spoke to Nikita.

“Nikita, go out and call my companions over.”

"What? I... wait, Joseph, you actually hid a gun under the covers! I didn't even know you hid it!"

Nikita stared at the pistol in shock, then hesitated for a moment before looking at the wounded man's terrified eyes with lingering fear and roaring, "What do you mean?"

"But why did you shoot Gavin? Just because of what happened on the farm? But the medicine I gave you came from the farm's hospital, and he came to save you..."

"Alright, Nikita, your business with him is irrelevant now, because this has become my business with him!"

Gavin interrupted Nikita with a cold laugh, then grabbed the wounded man's gun-wielding arm with his right hand and forcefully pressed the man's arm against his neck.

After freeing his left hand, Gavin reached into his left waist holster and retrieved the Taran Tactical PV Competition Pistol.

boom!
As Gavin blew the wounded man's head off, he turned his head to the side, so that the wounded man's blood only splattered onto his own neck and hair.

At the same time, outside the door, heavy footsteps rushed towards the bedroom with increasing urgency.

Boom!
The door was kicked open, and Madison's massive body rushed into the bedroom.

Once he understood the situation in the room, he immediately rushed out two steps, and in the blink of an eye, he was in front of Nikita. He raised his left hand, grabbed Nikita's neck, and slammed him against the wall!
Meanwhile, Madison's free right hand snatched Nikita's shotgun.

Steve rushed into the house right after him. When he saw the wounded man's head that Gavin had blown off, he frowned and went to the side of the bed where the wound was, and tore off the gauze wrapped around the wounded man.

When the gauze was violently torn off, the wound was completely exposed.

Looking at the two wounds that appeared to be just a bloody mess but weren't actually that serious, Steve sneered, drew his silver gun, and pointed it at Nikita.

As he turned the hammer, Steve said to Gavin with a cold smile.

"I thought he was seriously injured. How could such a minor injury leave a grown man bedridden and unable to speak? What a joke! So this is a trap?"

"Heh, it is indeed a trap, but I'm afraid it's not a trap prepared for us."

Gavin responded to Steve, then stood up and waved to Madison.

"Old Mike, put Nikita down."

"Boss?"

Upon hearing Gavin's words, Madison released Nikita and looked at Gavin suspiciously.

After being released by Madison, Nikita immediately clutched her neck, bent over, and coughed painfully twice.

After her cough subsided, Nikita straightened up and stepped back against the wall, bracing herself against it with her hands, and asked Gavin in a low voice.

"Gavin, you mean... his gun was meant for me?"

"Ok?"

Upon hearing Nikita's words, Gavin couldn't help but give her an admiring look; this girl was even calmer than he had expected!
Because of this problem, it's almost the best option she can make right now.

Look at her situation now. Her gun has been taken from her, and there are three burly men surrounding her in the house.

Regardless of what she really thought, she had to go along with Gavin's words at this moment.

Admittedly, if Gavin and his two companions harbored malicious intent, then she would inevitably suffer misfortune no matter what.

But as long as Gavin and his two companions aren't bad enough, she can still have a chance to survive as she climbs down the steps!
Now, looking at the slightly trembling Nikita, Gavin put away his PV pistol and then took the wounded man's revolver and threw it to Steve.

As Steve took the pistol, Gavin began to explain to Nikita.

"If it wasn't prepared for you, then who was it prepared for? Did he know in advance that I would arrive at this time, and then he was secretly planning to shoot me?"

"Stop joking, Nikita. Look at his wounds. They're not actually that serious. So why do you think he's pretending to be so weak?"

"Is it so that I'll be more polite to him if I accidentally find him, or is it to make you feel more guilty?"

"I bet he's said a lot of nonsense to you since he got injured. I only heard a couple of sentences just now and I could tell he's not very good at talking, but his actions are much more impressive than his words."

"Let me guess. What do you think would happen if I hadn't come, and you had let your guard down around him, especially if you weren't carrying a gun while taking care of him?"

"Will he blow my head off with his gun from dozens of kilometers away, or will he force you to do something at gunpoint?"

"Besides, is what he said really credible? You shot him like that, do you really think this guy who talks about God all the time doesn't feel any resentment at all?"

Gavin smiled and shook his head, leaving Nikita aside to think, while he turned on the intercom and spoke.

"Old Bert, you told everyone not to prepare for treatment anymore, because the wounded have disappeared!"

"What? It's disappeared? Quickly, put me back in my wheelchair! My old back!"

Old Bert quickly spoke into the walkie-talkie.

Upon hearing this, Gavin continued to speak into the walkie-talkie.

"Doris, please prepare an extra set of bowls and chopsticks for lunch. We'll have another companion. By the way, Winnie didn't go to practice her shooting by herself, did she?"

I didn't!

Winnie's sweet voice suddenly rang out in the bedroom, and she responded with exceptional liveliness.

"Bella and I have been so busy, we haven't had a chance to secretly practice our shooting skills!"

"That's good."

Upon hearing this, Gavin hung up the intercom and then waved to Nikita.

“Nikita, stop standing there. Do you want me to recite a prayer for that guy?”

"Although your area is sparsely populated, it has not been thoroughly cleaned up and is not safe enough. So come to my camp. There are many survivors like you and me there."

After saying that, Gavin strode out of the bedroom.

Nikita glanced nervously at Madison and Steve, then quickly chased after Gavin.

Madison, carrying Nikita's gun, followed at a distance from Nikita along with Steve.

Upon arriving at the manor hall, Bruce the Golden Retriever pounced again, fluttering his tail back and forth between Gavin and Nikita.

Seeing this, Gavin squatted down and rubbed the dog's head, while asking Nikita a question.

"You can ride a horse, right?"

Upon hearing this, Nikita nervously swallowed and quickly replied.

“My horse is hidden behind the manor. I can call it over and just whistle it.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Nikita glanced at Old Mac and the other man who were walking down from the second floor, and then tentatively walked toward the manor gate.

Watching Nikita's retreating figure, Gavin stroked the dog's head and squatted down in front of it, smiling as he spoke.

"You'd better hurry up, I've asked everyone to save some bowls and chopsticks for you. There's way too much meat, eggs, and dairy in the camp, so you'll have to help carry some of it."

Upon hearing Gavin's words, Nikita paused, then quickened her pace again.

She strode out of the manor, then tentatively took two more steps before turning back to look at Gavin.

After confirming that Gavin was still squatting there playing with the dog, Nikita pursed her lips, stopped, and whistled loudly.

The sound of horses' hooves came from afar, until they stopped beside Nikita.

It was a silver-pink Arabian horse, rather small, which suited Nikita's size quite well.
