Super Magician: The Magic Network Collapsed Again at the Start
Chapter 4 Double Kill
Chapter 4 Double Kill
The stone pillar leans against the pit wall, about four or five meters in diameter, with an uneven surface and plenty of places to climb.
'About ten meters.' Anser quickly estimated the distance from himself to the top of the stone pillar.
He couldn't see if anyone was up there from this angle, but he had to get up no matter what. The stone pillar could collapse at any moment, and he didn't have much time left.
He took off his tattered boots and stepped barefoot onto the protruding rocks. The touch was cold, but it didn't hurt. His dragon physique and strength made him a completely different person now.
Taking a deep breath, he climbed upwards with alternating movements of his limbs, his movements skillful, agile, and light, like the most experienced climbing expert.
"Whew, that was so exciting."
He looked down at the dark abyss below, his heart pounding faster than usual.
I'm a little scared, but it's not a big problem. I know the Feather Fall Technique, and I can use it instantly after falling to ensure I don't die from the fall.
However, what truly surprised him was the "basic moves" granted to him by the character card after becoming a professional.
Attack, dodge, sprint, retreat, hide, jump, climb, swim...
In the game, these are just insignificant basic abilities, but now they make Anser a well-trained sports elite.
By mastering the skills of "Special Skills" and "Sports", one can consistently maximize the potential of their physical attributes.
His movements were crisp, clean, skillful, and elegant; not to mention ordinary people, most professionals would find it difficult to do so.
After a few meters, the stone pillar became nearly right-angled, so he had to circle around it to find a better point of leverage.
But as soon as he turned around the stone pillar, he caught a glimpse of another stone pillar out of the corner of his eye, and on top of it, a young man was staring at him in disbelief.
"Holy shit!"
Anser was on edge, his body pressed tightly against the stone pillar, looking up at the sky.
No one looked down; everything seemed normal.
He turned his head to look, and saw that the young man had already withdrawn his gaze, knelt on the ground, turned to face him, holding a sword in one hand, while the other hand pointed subtly upwards.
'clever.'
Anser nodded slightly and continued climbing, moving more carefully and stopping after a few steps.
The young man communicated with him from time to time using adventurer gestures, and for a moment they worked together seamlessly.
There are two enemies, one of whom should be the gray dwarf, whose status is unknown.
As they approached the top, Anser became increasingly cautious.
The last three meters!
The young man suddenly stood up and threw a stone toward the top of the pillar where Anser was.
"Snapped--"
He threw it with great accuracy; the stone landed on the stone platform with a crisp sound, attracting the enemy's attention.
"..." (Goblin language)
Footsteps and sharp curses rang out one after another.
Anser understood immediately and went around to the other side of the stone pillar.
The young man was still throwing stones and cursing loudly, sounding rather hysterical, and it didn't sound like he was acting.
After pausing for a few seconds, Anser mustered all his strength to climb upwards, and with a leap, jumped onto the stone platform.
My gaze swept across the platform quickly; it was about four or five meters in diameter, and there were two short figures on it.
One of them sat in the middle, short and stocky, bald, with grayish-white skin, and a warhammer beside him.
A figure, less than a meter tall, with sharp teeth, pointed ears, and grayish-green skin, was standing near the edge of the stone pillar, his back to Anser, brandishing a scimitar to intimidate the young man.
The sudden appearance of the figure startled the two of them.
The grey dwarf grabbed his warhammer, turned to face Anser, but instead of standing up, he shouted loudly.
The goblins hesitated and didn't rush forward immediately.
At this moment, Anser had already activated "Innate Spells". He gripped the crystal in front of his chest with his left hand, concentrated his mind, and relied on his instincts to guide the surging magic to construct a simple spell model.
About a second passed.
“(Dragon language)”
With a resounding, metallic dragon's cry, a beam of light shot from his fingertips, instantly traversing over two meters of space before exploding with a deafening roar that slammed into the gray dwarf's face. Trick: Spell Burst - Thunder!
Despite it being his first time casting a spell, Anser did not miss, even against an immovable target.
The gray dwarf groaned, his face covered in blood, and fell backward.
At the same time, the dice in Anser's mind spun wildly, and a text prompt flashed through his mind in an instant.
You cast a spellburst on the gray dwarf, causing the enemy to be startled and fall to the ground.
The gray dwarf was hit, taking 15 points of (heavy) lightning damage, currently at 4/26 health...
Anser was overjoyed; the dice had this function after all.
But now is not the time to investigate this. The gray dwarf is not dead yet, and the other party has the ability to cast spells.
He took a few strides to the gray dwarf, stepped on his warhammer with his left foot, and stomped heavily on his neck with his right foot.
You launch a melee attack on the gray dwarf, causing the enemy to fall to the ground, panic, or become deaf.
The gray dwarf was hit, taking 4 points of blunt damage (heavy blow), a fatal blow, and the target died. Gain 200 combat experience...
Anser felt a sense of relief and immediately turned to face the goblin.
In just a few seconds, the most threatening gray dwarf died, leaving only a goblin with a look of fear on his face.
'How slow-witted, has he never heard of thunder before?' Anser gripped the crystal and cast the spell again.
The goblin, belatedly realizing what was happening, roared and charged forward.
""
A thunderous roar erupted, throwing the goblin to the ground. It lay there, howling and clutching its bleeding ears.
The distance was so close that Anser's eardrums were buzzing.
He suppressed his discomfort, quickly picked up the warhammer, which was quite heavy, so he had to hold it with both hands. He took two quick steps and smashed the hammer down on the goblin's head.
[...The goblin was hit, suffering 6 points of blunt damage (heavy blow), a fatal blow, and the target died. Gained 50 combat experience...]
Anser looked around and breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that there was no danger.
"Whew...that was so exciting!"
Actually, the goblin's challenge level is only 1/4, and it has 7 health points, so even melee fighters can handle it. But this is my first battle, so how could I not be nervous?
'This burst of magic is really useful,' Anser remarked.
Spellburst is a warlock-exclusive zero-circle spell, belonging to the Evocation tree. It has a casting range of 120 feet (≥36 meters) and deals 1d8 (1-8) damage on hit. The damage type is determined by the caster: acid, cold, fire, lightning, poison, mind, or thunder.
If a critical damage (8) is dealt, the spell energy will burst again, and at higher levels it may cause a chain reaction of explosions with considerable power.
Anser recognized the gray dwarf and knew that he might have resistance to poison or mind, but most likely not to thunder. Therefore, he chose thunder, which proved to be quite effective in actual combat.
In fact, the strongest offensive spell he possesses is the first-level spell, Radiant Orb, which requires one diamond (≥50 gold coins) to cast, and he doesn't have any on hand.
Moreover, casting first-circle spells is more difficult, and failure is possible when the magic network is in disarray or when one is under emotional stress.
'Thankfully, I performed steadily.'
Looking at the corpse on the ground, he felt uneasy, especially those two pairs of blood-stained eyes that seemed to be staring intently at him.
He kicked the corpse's head to the side and began collecting his spoils; he had very little time left.
Notes:
1. A heavy attack is a critical hit. The original damage is 1D8, and the heavy attack will deal 2D8 damage, which is equivalent to rolling two eight-sided dice. The damage will be between 2 and 16 points (the damage range will be marked in the text).
2. Why is all the damage within a certain range? Actually, this is quite realistic.
Take a slingshot as an example. If your slingshot skill is +5, it means you are highly skilled. This means you have a high attack check rate, which means you have a high hit rate. Others will only be able to dodge it by luck.
Assuming the slingshot damage is 1D6 (1-6), when shooting at a bird, the bird will still dodge but still be hit. Hitting its claws will cause 1 damage, hitting its wings will cause 2 damage and inflict an inability to fly, and hitting its head will cause a critical hit (2D6), resulting in instant death.
Where you hit the target often depends on luck, which is why the dice system exists.
This is a simplified example; reality is much more complex. When you are powerful enough (strong skills, high attributes), the element of luck is reduced, and hitting a vital point becomes a high-probability event.
2. I will provide explanations for all the spells used. For more information, please refer to the "Spell List" related to the work.
3. The rulers of Faerûn are feet, approximately 0.3 meters.
