Chapter 53 The Phantom Steed

"Would you mind telling me?" Ragnar pointed to the sailboat drifting with the current.

"certainly……"

Anser concealed his relationship with Clara, explaining that he had discovered slave traders, rescued the elves first, and planned to send them to Moonshadow Quill before figuring out how to rescue the others.

In reality, he just wanted to spread rumors and take advantage of the chaos.

The matter was not complicated; he explained it clearly in just a few words.

Ragnar's expression changed upon hearing about the elves and Moonshadow Quilling, then he said solemnly, "Mr. Anser, leave the rest to us. Silverscale Bay will investigate to the end."

"Oh." Anser smiled, showing no sign of leaving. "May I ask how Sheriff Ragnar plans to handle this?"

The authorities had a legitimate reason to intervene, and he had no reason to refuse. But since he had offended someone, he had to eliminate them completely; he didn't want to be remembered.

A hint of dissatisfaction flashed in Ragnar's eyes. She was directly appointed by the Baldur's Gate "Council of Nobles" and was the most loyal of the loyalists. Few dared to disrespect her or even openly show their distrust of her.

But she dared not really lose her temper. The other party was very strong, acted without restraint, and was a follower of Tyr. If she were to attract a few paladins, the trouble would be even greater.

“The guard has several small boats. I’ll organize men to board them immediately. They won’t be able to escape.”

"A small boat?" Anser's lips curled up, unsure whether this barbarian was genuinely stupid or thought the sorcerer was easy to fool. "Do you have cannons? How many people will have to die before you can board?"

【The Conch】It has cannons! If this weren't a town, the enemy would have already torn off the cannon covers and bombarded it.

Sailing ships require many crew members to operate. The Conch had a large crew, and even after a number of deaths, there were still at least thirty crew members, including musketeers, gunners, and sailors. Taking it down would not be so easy.

Ragnar's expression stiffened, and his face turned cold: "Mr. Anser, what's your plan? If we exchange artillery fire, I'm afraid none of those civilians will survive."

"Inform the whole town of this news and invite everyone to help. Let the professionals surround and board the ship. Even without cannons, we can easily wipe them out," Anser said calmly.

This approach also has its drawbacks. It's reasonable for those professionals to share in the spoils after taking such a huge risk.

“I’ll consider it.” Ragnar turned and left, leaving Anser standing there.

The main point is "If you don't leave, I'll leave," meaning we won't let you interfere.

Anser smiled faintly, not angry at all. He wanted to see what this sheriff was up to.

However, the most urgent task now is to find Clara; it would be troublesome if she were targeted again.

Nornos trotted along, and just as he left the dock, he encountered a slender figure on horseback.

Wearing a moon-white robe and a hood, his face was obscured, but Anser could tell who he was just by looking at his figure.

He focused his gaze on the horse, which gave him an unreal feeling; its gait was agile and its landing was light.

'This should be the third-circle spell, Phantom Steed.'

The horses and saddles are realistic, and they are much faster than regular horses, but they will disappear if attacked.

'She can actually cast third-circle spells?'

It's not that he looks down on people; warlocks are also arcane spellcasters, and are similarly affected by the magic network. Even if they have innate magic, they still need to go through a difficult process to switch to magic casting.

The fact that those members of the Blue Flame Cult dared to hunt down warlocks is simply because the warlock community is currently in a low period.

Of course, it's also possible that "Phantom Steed" can be cast through rituals without consuming spell slots.

At this moment, Gwyneth also looked Anser up and down, her eyes full of scrutiny: "You really know how to cause trouble."

From her high vantage point, Yueying Kuiling could see a figure in a black horse and black cloak wreaking havoc in the town from her window. The figure rode a black horse, leaping and bounding about, and eventually burned someone's boat.

However, this person's strength was truly extraordinary. He threw spells quickly, accurately, and far, which greatly surprised her. He certainly had an arrogant ability.

“I was just retaliating passively. I’m in Faerûn, I have no choice in what I do,” Anser sighed, trying to sound mature.

Before he transmigrated, he was always compromising and hesitant, and he suffered from the wrath of his colleagues and boss every day. If he still suffers after transmigrating, then what was the point of transmigrating?
“That proverb of yours is quite interesting.” Gwyneth rode closer on her horse, her expression wistful. “So going out to kill someone in the middle of the night is also considered a passive retaliation?”

“Hmm…that’s called eradicating evil completely,” Anser explained calmly.

"You also made up this proverb?" Gwyneth was momentarily at a loss for words.

"I heard it from someone else." Anser was simply translating and refining an idiom from his previous life.

"Things have been chaotic lately... Let's keep things calm." Gwyneth's eyes were enigmatic, carrying a hidden meaning.

After saying that, she rode past Anser on horseback, heading straight for the docks. 'Does she know about the Blue Flame Order?' Anser watched her retreating figure, not quite understanding what she was trying to say.

People die every day in Silverscale Bay; it's truly chaotic, but not particularly dangerous for professionals.

He didn't think much of it; Blatt and Clara were still waiting for him.

Nornos jogged along the street, with the gray eagle pointing the way from above, and finally found the two adults and one child in a restaurant on the street.

The situation was chaotic, and Blatt was worried that the slave traders had accomplices, so he didn't dare to run around. He carried Clara and blended into the crowd, hiding in a restaurant and pretending to watch the commotion.

Anser lifted the bewildered Clara onto the horse's back, and the group returned to Moonshadow Quilling together.

Seeing that both the man and the horse were unharmed, Blatter didn't ask any further questions, as the street wasn't a place to talk.

The group picked up Finn halfway through the journey; there were too many spoils for him to carry alone.

"Some were lost."

"It doesn't matter."

Anser had expected this; the people of Faerûn were "simple and honest," and it was perfectly normal for them to steal things from the dead.

The group rushed to Moonshadow Kuiling, and only then did most of the gazes that had been fixed on Anser dissipate.

During the day, people can freely enter and exit the garden; the gatekeepers do not stop them, but only remind them not to let the horses damage the plants in the garden.

Anser gave Nornos a few instructions, telling it to roam freely in the garden.

However, as soon as they entered the mushroom house, Dara suddenly rushed out and spread his arms to block Anser.

She stared at Clara with wide eyes, her expression wary: "Where...where have you been? Where did the child come from?"

It's no wonder she was nervous; elven slaves have always been highly sought-after on the black market, and Moonshadow Kuiling would never ignore them once she encountered one.

Moreover, such a tiny elf baby couldn't possibly live away from its parents and humans. She was very willing to believe Anser, but reason wouldn't allow her to ignore it.

Anser could tell from her appearance that she hadn't gone to watch the excitement; the location where Moonshadow Kuiling was situated was indeed quite secluded.

He turned to the side, revealing Kafka behind him: "They were together. I saw slave traders on the dock trying to trick people into boarding the ship, and I stopped them."

“Well, we just came from the Baldur’s Gate, High Tower District,” Kafka explained.

But he was also human; this argument is very weak and cannot be believed by Dala at all.

Dara's eyes sparkled as she looked at Clara: "Come here, let Auntie give you a hug."

Clara glanced at Anser and shook her head firmly: "No."

Although she was young, she was very smart. Everything that had just happened made her realize who her real backer was.

Dara was speechless with anger. They were of the same race and should have been naturally close.

Her eyes sparkled, and she had another idea: "Each room can only accommodate two people. There are no empty rooms in the Mushroom House. Come with me to the Cloud Tree House."

"Either is fine," Anser said noncommittally.

However, as far as he knew, the treehouse was not open to the public except for the restaurant on the first floor; it was inhabited by moon elves and waiters.

  1. Phantom Steed
  Third Ring Illusion (Mage)
Casting time: 1 minute or ritual

  Casting range: 30 feet

  Components: V, S
  Duration: 1 hour
A lifelike, large horse-like creature appears in an unoccupied space on the ground within the casting range of your choice. You determine the creature's appearance, and it is equipped with a saddle, bit, and reins. These items, created by the spell, vanish into thin air once they are more than 10 feet away from the mount.

During the spell's duration, you or a creature you designate can ride this mount. The mount uses the data of a riding horse, but it has a speed of 100 feet and can travel 20+ kilometers per hour. When the spell ends, the mount will slowly disappear, and the rider has 1 minute to dismount. If the mount takes damage, the spell will end prematurely.

  2. Charisma: In the 5R rule, the higher the attribute of a physical class, the higher the damage. However, spell damage generally does not increase with attributes. The most common way to increase damage is to upgrade the ring casting.

However, some class traits can incorporate spellcasting attribute modifiers into damage calculations, such as the level 10 trait "Enhanced Evocation" for Evocation Mages and the level 6 trait "Elemental Affinity" for Dragonvein Warlocks, commonly known as "Charm-based damage".

You can think of it as a spell model that is fixed, with power within a certain range. Only by increasing the cost can you increase the power (higher spell slots or more mana).
