Super Magician: The Magic Network Collapsed Again at the Start
Chapter 63 Do I Smell That Good?
Chapter 63 Do I Smell That Good?
"What's going on with this musket?" Anser tapped the armrest lightly with his fingertips, looking puzzled.
“Sir, you may not know this, but there are very few people on the continent of Faerûn who can manufacture firearms and gunpowder. It is said that the Kingdom of Amm has the support of a certain organization of mechanics, which is why it has so many firearms…” Sidney explained patiently.
Firearms technology in Faerûn mainly originated from Lantan, and existed as early as the 14th century in the Valley Era. However, due to the conflict between the laws of magic and physics, early firearms had a very high failure rate and relied on Lantan's gunpowder, resulting in high costs.
In recent years, a special profession called "mechanics master" has gradually emerged. They not only master firearms technology, but can also manufacture powerful war weapons, which are sought after by various forces.
The musket may seem useless, but it has a long range and high power. Its damage is 1d12, which is higher than most military weapons and on par with the giant axe.
The key is that ordinary people can also use it, and once it reaches a certain scale, its deterrent power and effectiveness are quite formidable.
For nobles and rulers, professionals were difficult to control, but musketeers were completely controllable.
“A mechanic…” Anser’s gaze was deep; he knew this profession.
The mechanics include alchemists, magic cannon makers, battlefield craftsmen, and armorers. Their inventions and magical items are used by both peace and war factions.
Their presence is not strong in the background, but the reality is different. The existence of these people is likely to stir up the situation on the continent, start endless wars, and make the already troubled Toril even worse.
He shook his head; it was too far off to think about those things now.
Aside from the musket, the other items on the list are not expensive. Two wands cost 200 gold each, and the Waterwalking Ring costs 260 gold. The most valuable items are two swords: the Silent Sword costs 900 gold and the Magic Greatsword costs 520 gold.
Sidney didn't explain, believing that Anser, as a spellcaster, certainly understood the reason behind it.
“Your assessment seems a bit inaccurate,” Anser said, looking at the brief evaluation on the list. “This bow and blade are afflicted with a weakening curse; if the user can’t withstand it, their life will be damaged. This half-sword is called the Silent Sword; it possesses toughness and wind-cutting properties…”
Sidney and the old appraiser exchanged a glance, their expressions somewhat unnatural.
"Sigh, it's all because of the instability in the Magic Network..." Sidney readily admitted.
There are three main ways to appraise magical equipment: the Appraisal skill, prolonged focused perception or synchronization, and experience and knowledge. Silverscale Bay is a small place with no appraisal masters, so it mainly relies on the Appraisal skill or equipment with the Appraisal skill.
However, the magic network is in disarray, and the appraisal skill cannot be used. Relying solely on experience, knowledge, and testing results in a large margin of error, and when unsure, one can only offer a low price.
"I said, you remember."
“Okay.” The old appraiser was more than happy to agree. He might not believe it completely, but verifying or deducing from the results was much simpler than appraising it.
A few minutes later, the veteran appraiser repriced the magical item.
The Silent Sword costs 1250 gold coins, and the Magic Greatsword costs 630 gold coins. Both of these are excellent pieces of equipment in their grade and will only become more and more sought after.
The prices of other items haven't changed much because they're really quite useless.
"A total of 4135 gold coins."
“Hmm.” Anser handed the list to Blatt, his face expressionless, but inwardly he felt that these battles had not been fought in vain.
He doesn't have a sign-in system, nor can he live forever. If he keeps hiding and being cowardly, he will only miss countless opportunities. When the risk is not high, he should step up.
Otherwise, when faced with a crisis or as they grow old, they can only lament that the legend is getting further and further away from them.
"Do you have any decent quality wands or suitable magical items? Bring them out and let me see." Anser didn't consider himself a miser; after all, the purpose of earning money is to spend it.
"Please wait a moment." Sidney's face immediately lit up with a smile.
A moment later, a long counter was filled with all kinds of magical items, each with an appraisal certificate next to it.
Sidney stood behind the counter, his smile tinged with arrogance, his confidence overflowing: this was the heritage of the old nobles of Waterdeep. "Sir, I've heard you have a rare warhorse. Perhaps these two items will be of use to you." He pushed forward a pile of leather and metal that shimmered with magical light. "These were originally meant for Waterdeep, but the steward asked me to keep them for a couple of days."
“A saddle? Horseshoes?” Anser asked in surprise.
"This was a gift from a renowned noble knight, in exchange for a property in Waterdeep and tickets for the entire clan's ship. A fine saddle, a pair of rare horseshoes..." Sidney began to describe it at length.
Anser smiled. It turned out that the so-called noble heritage was all obtained by "profiting from disaster". When Baldur's Gate was destroyed, many wealthy merchants, nobles or professionals fled to Silverscale Bay and had to sell their belongings.
He stepped forward and picked up the certificate, but did not fully believe it. Instead, he took the opportunity to use dice to conduct the authentication.
[Magic Item: Iron Horse Saddle]
Category: Curiosities
Rarity: Excellent
"Mount Protection": Attack rolls against mounts are at a disadvantage.
"Steady Rider": Your riding posture is more stable, and you will not dismount involuntarily.
[Magic Item: West Wind Horseshoe]
Category: Curiosities
Rarity: Rare
These horseshoes come in sets of four. They are attached to the hoof of a horse or similar creature using magical commands, and the same applies to their removal.
"Floating Field": While all four horseshoes are attached and active simultaneously, the creature will levitate at a height of 4 inches (10 centimeters) above the ground and can move as usual. This allows the creature to pass through or stand on non-solid or unstable surfaces, such as water or lava.
"Move freely": It ignores difficult terrain and leaves no footprints.
Furthermore, this creature can travel for up to 12 hours a day without becoming exhausted from long journeys.
"It can run on the water?" Anser asked in surprise.
“That’s right, with these, you can ride horses freely on the Chongza River.” Sidney’s eyes gleamed as he made his calculations.
In his view, this was the ultimate dream of all knights, and he didn't believe anyone could resist such temptation.
Anser took a deep breath to calm himself: "How much?"
"The iron saddle is included, along with West Wind horseshoes... 41,000 gold coins, an absolute historical low price. Normally, you'd have to try your luck at an auction to buy one." Sidney's gaze remained fixed on Anser's face.
Anser's breath hitched, and he didn't reply.
Rare magical items can certainly fetch tens of thousands of gold coins, but the problem is he doesn't have the money.
“This thing… has a very narrow application. If it’s only on land, my horse… won’t need it.” He tried to convince himself.
“You’re being one-sided. What about cliffs and mountains, swamps and deserts, ice fields and lava fields? Even if you don’t go to those places, jumping too high during a fight can easily cause you to twist your ankle. Besides, being invisible and untraceable makes it difficult to track you down…” Sidney pretended not to see through his thoughts and just kept pushing the idea.
“I have no money,” Anser waved his hand to interrupt him.
“It’s alright.” Sidney smiled, his face crinkling. “The Magastro family wants to hire you as a tutor to teach their underage sons and daughters. The salary is negotiable, but it will be very generous.”
During this period, you can use them unconditionally and repay them gradually.
Anser touched his forehead with his hand, pretending to fix his hair, his mind a little confused:
'Why do they always use this trick? Am I that appealing? I just bought something, and they've already found me a job?'
Although he is a sorcerer, he relies entirely on character cards to unlock his innate magic; he can't really "teach" others.
