The kill radius of tens of meters may seem large, but it is negligible compared to the number of fishmen.
However, thanks to this electric ball spell, the murlocs' charge was hindered, giving everyone time to retreat.
Anser turned and left, not wanting to get entangled with them.
Fortunately, the electric ball spell was incredibly effective, making the close relatives of the Kou Tao fishmen realize that these humans were not pushovers, and their instinct to bully the weak and fear the strong prevented them from coming ashore to pursue them.
From a distance, Bluewater City's urban design seems to imitate Baldur's Gate, with walls separating the city areas. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that this is not the case; the city walls simply enclose the inner city.
The dock area and outer city were blocked by the city walls and were essentially abandoned. Most of the people were also transferred to the inner city.
Anser didn't want to stay here and originally planned to go around the wall and leave directly.
But as soon as they left the dock area, several flying dragons appeared in the distant sky. They were very fast and soon flew over the city.
"Enter the city!"
The city gate was opened halfway, and after the group went in, it was immediately closed again.
The Bluewater City garrison had already noticed what had just happened. Even if they were completely brainless, they couldn't possibly turn away such a powerful professional.
The inner city was quite spacious, but the streets were packed with refugees. Anser had seen this scene too many times and was even somewhat numb to it.
Aside from lamenting how much misfortune had befallen Faerûn, there was nothing he could do.
Logically speaking, this should be the responsibility of those deities. If these are their followers, they should step down and take charge.
At that moment, the crowd ahead screamed as a dragon swept low over the city, its long tail sweeping the flagpole atop the clock tower away.
A half-dragon rode behind the dragon, its long blade pointed far away at Anser, its mouth agape, letting out a defiant roar.
'It's him?' Anser narrowed his eyes.
He didn't recognize the other person, but judging from their attire and behavior, this half-dragon was probably the same half-dragon from last night's siege.
'You reacted pretty quickly.'
After the other party realized this, they actually abandoned the cliff fortress and came specifically to hunt him down, which shows how much resentment they harbored.
"How arrogant!" a voice boomed from ahead, filled with rage. "A bunch of barbarian beasts, do they really think Faerûn has no one to rely on?"
Anser looked in the direction of the sound and saw a man in full blue armor coming towards him, followed by a squad of blue-clad warriors, fully armed.
"Sir Casanova, are you all alright?" The man approached Tim, raised his hand to remove his helmet, revealing a square face with a full beard.
“Thank you for your concern, Lord Barron.” Tim bowed slightly, his expression relaxed. “We’re fine.”
After saying that, he pointed to Anser and said, "Thanks to Mr. Anser, otherwise it would have been hard to say what would have happened last night."
The man's expression remained unchanged; he probably hadn't heard of Anser before. He turned to face Anser, a smile on his face.
“I just saw Mr. Anser’s impressive appearance from up there; it was quite a surprise. My name is Baron, commander of the Bluewater City Vanguard Guard.”
"Hello, Mr. Baron." Anser dismounted, a polite smile on his face.
After the dice had been spinning for a while, they finally detected his information.
Baron, Human, Level 11 Warrior (Combat Master)
'Very competitive, a highly skilled professional.'
This might not be the first advanced professional he had ever seen, but it was the first advanced professional the dice had detected.
If elite professionals are the backbone of major forces, then high-level professionals are strategic, crucial, and hold a high position in any organization.
When such a person stands on the city wall and personally commands, it must be a moment of extreme crisis.
In fact, there are more advanced professionals on the continent of Faerûn than one might imagine, but many of them are rarely seen. Moreover, after the incident at the Magic Network, most of the professionals who rely on spellcasting abilities have gone into hiding.
“Mr. Anser, there’s no need to rush to leave. Bluewater City has gathered half of the professionals and soldiers from Claw Bay. Those dragonborn and kobolds will definitely not be able to break through the gates of Bluewater City,” Baron said confidently.
After the incident in Twilight City, the Claw City-States notified all regions of a strategic retreat, constructing a defensive system centered on Bluewater City and Antark City on the east coast, prepared for a long-term hold. Not defending was not an option either; the east lay a vast wilderness, and fleeing would lead to a chase, where the dragons had unlimited room to maneuver, potentially resulting in a massive rout.
“What if the enemy enters the interior from the peninsula and circles around to the back of Bluewater City? Once besieged, the situation could be dire,” Anser pressed.
"Bluewater City has ample supplies and several high-level professionals, so there's no need to worry for the time being. I've already sent people to Candlehold and Belgost for reinforcements, and I believe they will arrive," Baron said confidently.
The Claw Bay has hundreds of thousands of inhabitants. The various city-states have formed a Claw City-State modeled after the Lords' Alliance. Although they are usually fiercely competitive, they can concentrate all their resources and forces when it matters and should not be underestimated.
The Gulf's thriving trade leads to a concentration of professionals; there's no shortage of low- to mid-level combatants, but a lack of high-end ones. If the Green Dragon were to appear, it would likely be difficult to deal with.
“Hmm.” Anser remained noncommittal.
If he hadn't been targeted by that half-dragon, he would have preferred to leave.
"Sir Selig, Lord of Bluewater City, has issued a call to arms on behalf of the Alliance. Anyone willing to help defend the city, from professionals to commoners, will be richly rewarded, with additional bonuses for killing enemies..."
Baron waved his hand, and a blue-armored warrior handed Anser a paper notice.
Ordinary professionals are certainly not worth his personal recruitment, but Anser is different. An elite spellcaster is extremely valuable, and he also brings a small team with him.
As for Tim, he was a member of the city-state, and defending the city was the Casanova family's duty.
“I’ll explain this to Mr. Anser. We’ve been fighting all night and need to eat and rest,” Tim suddenly interrupted.
"Yes, of course." Barron's eyes looked a little uneasy. "Do you need me to arrange accommodations for you?"
"No, thank you," Tim refused outright.
"Contact me anytime you have a decision. This time... you can pay me first." Baron didn't press the matter further and turned to leave.
"Is something wrong here?" Anser noticed Tim's unusual behavior and asked softly.
"It's not convenient to talk here, follow me." Tim waved and led the way.
Anser followed on horseback, with Blatt and a few others trailing behind him.
After passing through two crowded streets, they entered an area guarded by soldiers, filled with dozens of garden villas, their yards enclosed by iron fences.
"Luckily, I bought a property here years ago..."
Tim led them into a small estate consisting of three villas, with hundreds of guards, all of whom appeared to be Tim's men.
The small manor suddenly became noisy, and a group of people poured out of the house. One of them, a mature and beautiful woman, threw herself into Tim's arms, crying her eyes out. Her eyes were red and swollen, and she had heavy dark circles under her eyes.
"Alright, alright..." Tim comforted him gently, without avoiding the issue or feeling embarrassed, even in front of outsiders and subordinates.
It's clear that he values family relationships.
After finally calming his family down, Tim quickly invited Anser and the others inside for tea and snacks, and introduced them to his family members.
Anser was distracted, only remembering that his daughter Tina was very beautiful, with delicate skin and soft features, which suited his aesthetic.
Tim saw through his thoughts and quickly dismissed his family: "That Baron is somewhat reliable, but his word doesn't count. The one in charge is Lord Selig of Bluewater City. This man cannot be trusted..."
The Selig family made their fortune through smuggling and have become very wealthy. In recent years, they have become arrogant and presumptuous, even aspiring to rival Baldgate.
He looked down on those adventurers; betrayal was commonplace for them, and they had no credibility whatsoever.
“No wonder Baron said he could pay first.” Anser chuckled.
Tim ran his hand through his unruly beard, his expression serious.
“There are flying dragons patrolling the sky, and horses can’t outrun them, so we can’t leave for the time being. If Mr. Anser wants to go up the city wall, he can tell me what he needs and I will go and talk to him.”
Anser's heart skipped a beat: "I want elemental essence, earth, water, or wind attributes are all fine."
Assisting in defense is not mandatory. Even if you receive payment, you are not obligated to hold your ground to the death. In that case, you might as well take some benefits first.
Why not take it if it's free!
