Douluo Continent: The Eternal Dawn

Chapter 34 Zhang Lexuan's Promise

Chapter 34 Zhang Lexuan's Promise
Thanks to the nourishment from three consecutive thousand-year soul rings, coupled with the ample nutrition he received on Seagod Island over the years, Ye Xixuan's physique is now no different from that of an ordinary twelve or thirteen-year-old boy. Compared to Zhang Lexuan, he is only about half a head shorter.

Ye Xixuan could sense that Zhang Lexuan's body was indeed very weak, she couldn't muster any strength, and even the soul power circulating in her meridians was disordered.

When Zhang Lexuan forcibly absorbed the soul ring and soul bone of the 100,000-year-old Blood Moon Wolf King and suffered a backlash, it was clear that it damaged the meridians in her body. No wonder Elder Mu said that Zhang Lexuan would need to rest and recuperate for at least the next two years and would not be able to use her martial soul.

It's completely unimaginable how she managed to walk all the way to the Sea God Pavilion by herself.

Holding Zhang Lexuan as they traversed Seagod Island, Ye Xixuan felt no burden whatsoever. After all, with his physical strength, Zhang Lexuan's weight was nothing at all.

From Poseidon Island all the way to the dormitory of the female students in the East Inner Court, the two had no further communication.

Zhang Lexuan was lost in her memories, while Ye Xixuan only belatedly realized that he seemed to have done something terrible to his senior sister.

The dormitories of the female students in the inner academy are built along the small hill where the martial arts training ground is located. They are scattered together, providing ample private space, and all face the Sea God Lake.

Zhang Lexuan lived in a two-story wooden attic. Ye Xixuan had been here many times before, but this was the first time he had carried Zhang Lexuan in such an intimate manner.

Fortunately, the female students in the inner courtyard were either busy with cultivation or going out to carry out surveillance missions, so no one saw them.

Ye Xixuan stopped at the entrance of the pavilion, his gaze wandering, not daring to fall on Zhang Lexuan in his arms.

Zhang Lexuan reverted to her usual gentle and rational demeanor, placing one hand on Ye Xixuan's shoulder and softly saying, "Xixuan, put me down."

"Hmm." Ye Xixuan responded somewhat awkwardly, her gaze meeting Zhang Lexuan's.

"Sister Lexuan, just now I..."

"A promise made must be kept." A charming smile appeared on Zhang Lexuan's beautiful face as she carefully examined Ye Xixuan from head to toe, giving him an approving look.

"That's right, that little guy from back then has grown up."

"Sister Lexuan, I'm not young!" Over the years, being around Beibei and Xu Sanshi, Ye Xixuan has become subconsciously sensitive to such evaluations.

Zhang Lexuan smiled slightly, not paying attention to Ye Xixuan's concerns. Just like when they first met, she reached out her right hand and gently touched Ye Xixuan's cheek.

"It's so late, why don't you stay here and cultivate tonight?"

"Okay." Seeing that Zhang Lexuan's attitude towards him remained the same, Ye Xixuan finally felt relieved and followed Zhang Lexuan into the pavilion.

The attic was simply and plainly decorated, with all the furnishings made of wood.

Zhang Lexuan took Ye Xixuan's hand and pulled him to sit on the long wooden bench in the first-floor living room. Through the window, they could see the clear Sea God Lake reflecting the bright moon, her pupils vacant, as if only a pure white expanse was reflected in her eyes.

“Xi Xuan, I don’t think I’ve ever told you about my background. Actually, we both come from the Heavenly Soul Empire, just like you, and even our experiences are quite similar.”

“Sister Lexuan.” Ye Xixuan turned his head to meet Zhang Lexuan’s gaze. In his memories of his past life, Zhang Lexuan had never voluntarily told anyone about her past.

Zhang Lexuan closed her eyes, seemingly recalling some painful memories. Her long eyelashes trembled slightly, and she couldn't help but hug Ye Xixuan tightly, pressing his face against her chest. Years ago, she had huddled under the bed, clutching a doll, watching helplessly as her entire family was massacred.

“My family was originally a noble family in Night Moon City of the Heavenly Soul Empire. Later, we were persecuted by another noble family and suffered the calamity of being wiped out…” That night, Zhang Lexuan told Ye Xixuan in detail about her unknown past, and she did not hide anything about the promise she made to Elder Mu afterward.

Ye Xixuan's body was enveloped in a soft warmth, Zhang Lexuan's hair falling onto his cheek, carrying a faint fragrance. Hearing this, he could no longer suppress the myriad emotions in his heart, and raised his head to gaze intently at Zhang Lexuan.

"Sister Lexuan, could you please not keep this promise?"

"Do you want me to break this promise?" Zhang Lexuan asked, her words cryptic.

Ye Xixuan nodded vigorously.

"I hope so. But I hope even more that you, Sister Lexuan, can live for yourself in the future."

"Okay." Zhang Lexuan replied with just one word, but the light in her eyes no longer seemed as dull as before, as if she had regained some of the liveliness she had when she was young.

Ye Xixuan breathed a sigh of relief, his whole body relaxed, and his tone was both serious and joking.

"Actually, I said that to try and give myself a little hope. Sister Lexuan, you are beautiful and gentle. I hope you can marry me in the future."

"it is good."

"Senior Sister, what did you just say?" Ye Xixuan was about to say something when she heard Zhang Lexuan's answer and froze on the spot as if struck by lightning.

Zhang Lexuan smiled gently, her stunningly beautiful face clearly reflected in Ye Xixuan's eyes, and her red lips moved as she repeated herself.

"I promise you, I will marry you in the future."

Ye Xixuan stared wide-eyed in disbelief. He wasn't sure if his feelings for his senior sister were dependence, longing, or something else entirely. But upon hearing Zhang Lexuan's affirmative answer, he felt a tingling sensation throughout his body, and an indescribable excitement and joy instantly welled up in his heart.

As for Zhang Lexuan herself, this is indeed her true feeling.

In her mind, feelings can be cultivated slowly. Whether it was out of pity or affection for Ye Xixuan, she didn't seem to reject this outcome.

Unlike her promise to Elder Mu back then, this time she acted entirely from her own heart, without any human intervention, and it was her own firm choice.

Perhaps that's just how some people are.

In the original story, Zhang Lexuan was always there for Bei Bei, fulfilling his every wish, and gradually fell for him through her constant devotion. However, now, the object of her devotion has unintentionally shifted to Ye Xixuan.

The night was deep, but Ye Xixuan still felt a sense of unreality, and a clear change appeared in his gaze as he looked at Zhang Lexuan. He was still too young to understand love, but he would understand later; it was a man's natural possessiveness towards the person he had chosen in his heart.

Thank you so much for the monthly pass support today! I'm adding an extra chapter to show my serious attitude towards writing. Brothers, let's go! I'm going to give it my all! I just love Senior Sister so much.
