Chapter 137 The Strange Supply List
Chapter 137 The Strange Supply List
After Ghostface gave the order, the entire troop transport ship seemed like a colossal beast awakening from its slumber, emitting a low roar. The lights in the bridge turned an ominous dark red, and piercing alarms blared in every corner. The heavy void shield generators began to charge, creating energy ripples around the hull that were almost imperceptible to the naked eye.
The most central sanctuary of the Navigators, its heavy lead doors forever shut, impenetrable to mortals, remained firmly closed. In a dimension beyond mortal perception, a Navigator with a third eye on his forehead gazed with his mutated mind upon the mad, chaotic ocean of the warp, a sea of pure emotion and nightmares. Like a seasoned captain, he steered a small boat through an eternal, howling storm, searching for the one and only path to reality.
The ship began to tremble violently and erratically, as if it would be torn to shreds by an invisible hand at any moment. Looking out through the armored portholes, the stars of the real universe had vanished, replaced by a swirling, boiling vortex of light, interwoven with crimson, purple, and indigo. The silent roar seemed to penetrate the ship's hull and reach the very depths of everyone's soul.
I don't know how much time passed, maybe a few days, or maybe just a moment.
With a piercing shriek that seemed to tear reality apart, the entire troop transport ship jolted violently, and the nauseating, non-Euclidean turbulence abruptly ceased. The lights on the bridge returned to their normal daytime mode, and the alarms fell silent.
They came out.
Through the enormous observation window, one can see a silent and profound universe. This is Mandeville Point in the real universe, the theoretical safe exit for subspace travel. Distant stars, like diamonds scattered on black velvet, are cold and beautiful.
Of course, this isn't the Jersey Sector. After all, those areas are no longer under Imperial control. Ultimately, it's just a transport ship with virtually no firepower; if it recklessly charges in without escort, it'll simply be easy prey for the Xenomorph fleet.
Having just emerged from the warp and been instantly destroyed, then resent back to Peditian to resurrect, anyone would be mentally devastated. Therefore, following the safest plan, they obediently went to the Imperial fleet's designated assembly point.
"Immediately attempt to request communication." Ghost Face looked at the green marker on the star map representing the friendly fleet and gave the order without hesitation.
"Yes, Commander." The communications officer immediately began operations, and a series of binary prayers mixed with noise were sent into the void.
The communication request was approved almost immediately. A processed, emotionless electronic voice came from the loudspeaker:
"This is the 'Radiance of Damlas,' belonging to the 72nd Task Force of the Imperial Navy. Please state your identities and the purpose of your arrival at these coordinates."
Ghost Face cleared his throat and answered clearly into the communicator, "We are reinforcements from Pedidia, the Third Legion of the Dead from Pedidia. You are preparing for war, right? We are here to join you."
A slight commotion came from the other party's channel. A moment later, the voice sounded again, this time with a more human tone: "Received, Third Legion of the Peditian Death Squad. Please remain silent at the current coordinates. I will report to my superiors immediately."
Communication was then interrupted.
Then came the long wait.
Time passed second by second, a full thirty minutes, and apart from the hissing sound of cosmic background radiation, there was no response from the communication channel.
Ghostface began pacing impatiently on the bridge, his tactical boots tapping against the deck with a "tap, tap, tap" sound. He even started to wonder if he'd been tricked, or if the communications officer had simply forgotten about it. Just as he was about to lose his patience, a sharp notification tone broke the silence of the bridge.
"Sir! The other party has initiated a communication request!" the communications officer reported. "It's...it's visual communication!"
"Connect!" Ghost Face immediately gave the order.
The holographic projector in the center of the bridge flickered a few times, then projected a clear half-body image. It was a middle-aged man with a resolute face, wearing a crisp uniform of a high-ranking officer in the Astronomical Army, with the general's star on his shoulder representing a legion commander, and the medals on his chest gleaming in the light. His eyes were sharp as an eagle's, as if they could see right through people's hearts.
"I am Wendell Gage, the Commander-in-Chief of the Damocles Expeditionary Force." The man's voice was deep and powerful, carrying an unquestionable authority. "I ask you again, do you, the legion from Pedidia, wish to join this war against the Xenomorphs?"
Ghostface grinned, though his face was completely obscured by his full-face helmet: "Hello, Commander Gage, my name is Ghostface. I almost thought your communications officer was from the Ministry of the Interior."
"And we, the Third Legion of the Dead of Pedidia, must indeed join this war against the Xenomorphs."
Wendell's holographic image flickered slightly, his rock-carved face revealing no obvious emotional fluctuation. He merely frowned slightly at Ghostface's almost provocative attitude, offering no comment. As a battle-hardened general, he had seen far more bizarre people than Ghostface had seen aliens. He was more concerned with practical matters.
“In that case,” General Gage said calmly, “send me the list of supplies you need. And I need your assurance that your legion will be completely under my command.”
"The supplies list is definitely ready, I'll send it over right away," Ghostface readily agreed, tapping a few times on his interface. A data stream instantly traversed the void and was sent to the other's flagship. "As for obeying orders... hehe, don't worry, Commander Gage, we'll go wherever you tell us to go."
A soft "ding" sounded from a data panel in front of General Gage, who glanced down at it. Just a quick scan of the headings and the first few items on the list was enough to crack his perpetually serious expression. His brow furrowed, then quickly shifted to obvious confusion and doubt.
He raised his head and looked directly into Ghostface's eyes: "Ghostface commander, are you sure you didn't send the wrong message? I have never seen any Star Guardian Legion that needs such a huge quantity of combat drugs... and tactical nuclear weapons."
Gage's voice deepened, carrying a hint of instruction and warning: "I won't talk about the potions yet, but tactical nuclear weapons... listen, you little devil leader. Even if you use it to wipe a position off the map, you still need to send soldiers to occupy it before it can be considered a capture."
Hearing this reasonable tactical analysis, Ghost Face's smile became even brighter under his full-face helmet.
“Now that you say that, I’m actually relieved. It’s definitely not a mistake.” He replied easily. “Hehe… Commander Gage, just prepare according to the instructions.”
